Abstract

This study investigates the impact of democratic education on student engagement in Indonesia’s 2024 General Elections. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 250 students across five universities to examine their understanding of democratic concepts, perceptions of democratic education, and political participation. The findings indicate a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.412, p < 0.001) between democratic education and political engagement. While students exhibit strong foundational knowledge of democracy, their procedural understanding—such as knowledge of institutional mechanisms and electoral processes—remains limited. The study highlights the need for higher education institutions to adopt application-based approaches to democratic education, including electoral simulations, public debates, and advocacy training, to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. By fostering informed and active political participation, such programs hold the potential to strengthen democratic resilience in Indonesia and other developing democracies. This research contributes to the global discourse on democratic education by providing empirical evidence from a developing country context. Future research should integrate qualitative methods and explore the role of social and institutional factors in shaping political engagement for a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics between education and democracy.

Abstract

This study explores the managerial role of the Kiai in maintaining the mental health of santri at Pondok Pesantren Al-Qodiri 02, an institution known for integrating religious teachings with psychological support. Using a qualitative case study approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis over six months. The findings reveal that the Kiai enhances santri's mental health by offering emotional connections and spiritual guidance and fostering a nurturing environment. The Kiai also serves as a role model, teaching values such as patience, perseverance, and devotion to Allah, which promote psychological resilience and character development. However, the study’s focus on a single pesantren limits its generalizability to other institutions with different leadership structures and cultural dynamics. Additionally, the reliance on qualitative data may not capture broader trends in mental health across pesantren. The study emphasizes the need for pesantren administrators to create a supportive ecosystem that strengthens Kiai's role in fostering mental well-being and equips santri with life skills for challenges beyond the pesantren setting.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of cultural competence in English Language Teaching (ELT). Despite its importance, lecturers’ understanding of culture remains limited, making it difficult to implement in teaching. This study analyzes lecturers’ knowledge of culture, intercultural competence (IC), and intercultural awareness (ICA) in ELT. A qualitative research method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four English lecturers at IAIN Bone, selected purposively based on their teaching experience and involvement in culture-based instruction. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in their understanding and implementation of IC in the classroom. The findings indicate that most lecturers acknowledge the significance of culture and intercultural communicative competence (ICC) in ELT. However, their approaches vary, from merely transmitting cultural information to prioritizing dialects over broader cultural aspects. Some lecturers also adhere to the native speaker (NS) model, which contradicts the ideal integration of IC in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. This study recommends training programs for lecturers on IC and ICA and curriculum development emphasizing cultural integration in ELT. Future research could explore more specific teaching approaches and their impact on students’ intercultural competence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how an Islamic boarding school implements the principles of quality management to improve the quality of educators, so that the quality of graduates of Islamic boarding schools has increased and also has high competitiveness from other educational institutions in general. Educators are the spearhead of success in the educational process. Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia have experienced a bad stigma regarding Islamic boarding school management, and this still occurs to date. Since Islamic boarding schools are poorly run, there has not been much change in the status quo in non-formal education, which is characterized as conventional, conservative, and outdated. Nevertheless, the public still strongly desires Islamic boarding schools, which are rumored to exist occasionally. Library research methods are used in this investigation. The research data source includes library resources, books, and chosen research articles pertinent to this study. According to the research findings, Kyai's responsibilities as a top leader are multifaceted; he must enhance his quality as a manager, teacher, and preacher. They can work professionally by their roles and duties and are quality in the truest sense. Providing decent salaries and ensuring teacher welfare can be a consideration for improving teacher quality to improve the quality of education; moreover, in implementing Islamic boarding schools, quality management is based on management principles, including Planning, Organizing, acting, and Controlling, which are based on quality. The implications of the results of this study for the leaders of Islamic boarding schools are that it is very important to implement quality principles, namely continuous improvement, quality standards (quality assurance), development of quality culture (development of culture), organizational changes that follow changes in vision and mission that are oriented towards quality (upside down organization) and maintaining good relationships with customers (keeping close to the customer). So that leaders can manage professionally to meet the needs of the professionalism of the Ustaz that Islamic boarding schools need.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Qur'anic and Hadith values into learning methodologies to enhance the quality of Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative approach with a literature study method, utilizing primary sources from the Qur'an and Hadith and secondary sources from books, journal articles, and other scholarly references on Islamic pedagogy. Data was collected through document analysis, identifying relevant texts discussing Islamic educational principles and their applications in contemporary learning frameworks. The data were analyzed using content analysis, focusing on extracting key educational themes from Qur'anic and Hadith texts and their alignment with modern pedagogical approaches. The findings reveal that Islamic educational principles, including tarbiyah (holistic education), ta’lim (knowledge transmission), and ta’dib (character formation), can be effectively implemented through various innovative teaching strategies. These include project-based learning, technology-assisted instruction, and participatory methods emphasizing dialogue, critical thinking, and experiential learning. Such approaches ensure that Islamic education remains rooted in traditional values while adapting to contemporary educational needs. The study further finds that integrating Qur'anic and Hadith-based innovations enhances students’ motivation, critical thinking skills, and ability to balance faith with scientific knowledge. These pedagogical transformations contribute to developing a dynamic and sustainable Islamic education system that is contextually relevant and future-oriented.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the main challenges in integrating digital technology in education and e-government in Indonesia. The research method uses a literature approach to collect and analyze relevant literature on digital innovation in educational technology and e-government in Indonesia. Primary sources include scientific articles, theory books, government policy documents, and international journals to compare technology implementations in developing countries. This approach enriches the analysis with various theoretical perspectives and valid information on the challenges and solutions of digital implementation in the education and government sectors. The work identifies key challenges in integrating digital technologies for e-government and education, such as uneven infrastructure, low digital literacy, and resistance to change. The digital divide in 3T areas exacerbates inequality in access to education and public services. Potential solutions include infrastructure development, digital literacy training, master plan development, and public awareness campaigns. With collaboration between the government, the education sector, and the community, Indonesia can utilize digital technology to improve the quality of public services and socio-economic life.

Abstract

This study examines the thoughts of Kuntowijoyo as a Muslim scholar who is very influential in Indonesian scientific disciplines. In his view, Indonesian Muslims have gone through stages of awareness. These stages are divided into three periods, namely: the period of myth, the period of ideology and the period of science. The mythical period where ancient people really believed in something mystical. Then the development of the era in the Ideological Period began to recognize scientific treasures so that some of these mystical beliefs could be proven by science. Meanwhile, humans are currently in the Period of Science, namely interpreting modern sciences. A detailed explanation related to the period was compiled based on several references obtained by the author in qualitative research methods and packaged in the Library Research. The author identifies through Kuntowijoyo's original work and explores other scientific studies related to his written thoughts, both in print and digital media. The results show the study of Islam as a science, the method of transcendental structuralism and the concept of prophetic social science according to Kuntowijoyo in an Islamic perspective.
