Abstract

Social media is no longer a foreign thing, especially for the millennial generation of students. Social media is used as a necessity and a means of communication. This type of research is quantitative research with a descriptive method that aims to provide or create an overview of the effect of the duration of using social media on the GPA of Biology Education Students.  This research can be regarded as quantitative research because it collects and processes data using numbers, interprets the data obtained, and is also in the stage of presenting the output. The data in this study were obtained from the respondents' answers in filling out the questionnaire (closed questionnaire) and using the Likert scale in determining the score. 20 respondents were selected using the convenience sampling technique. The conclusion is that the effect of the duration of using social media on the GPA of the students of the Biology Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is not significant. This is reinforced by the results of the R Square analysis which is 0.002 means only 1.2%.  Through these results, it can be seen that the effect of the duration of social media on the GPA of biology education students only has an effect of 1.2% and the rest is influenced by other variabels not explained in this study. The benefit of this research for science is to determine the impact of the development of technology and information on academic potential, especially for education students at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University, Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Kingdom plantae learning materials, especially Pteridophyta material at SMA N 1 Trimurjo, experienced problems in the teaching and learning process due to the lack of available learning references in the school, so that it had an impact on students' interest in learning. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a pop up book learning media on Pteridophyta material as a learning resource for class X students of SMA N 1 Trimurjo. The aimed of this research on the development of the pteridophyte pop up book is to produce a learning media in the form of a pop up book on Pteridophyta material. This development research uses the type of ADDIE development which has 4 stages, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluations. The product developed in this research development is a pop up book that has passed the material expert validation stage with 97% results with "very good" criteria, and media expert validation with 94% results with "very good" criteria, and the results of the teacher's perception test response with the results of 88% with the criteria of "very good" and the small group trial with the results of 92.2% with the criteria of "very good". Pop up book products that have been validated and tested on small groups can be used without revision. Based on the results of research and development, it can be concluded that the pop up book learning media on Pteridophyta material is very feasible and very interesting to use in learning biology at SMA N 1 Trimurjo.

Abstract

One of the skills that must be developed in the 21st century is creative thinking skills. Creative thinking skill that need to be developed because creative thinking skills are the ability to bring up new ideas and interesting thoughts in different situations. There are four aspects of creative thinking skills used in this study, namely: (1) fluency, (2) flexibility, (3) originality, (4) elaboration. The purpose of this research is to develop creative thinking instruments that are used to determine the level of student’s creative thinking abilities. The method used in this research is R and D with the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The instrument consisted of 11 essay questions which were validated by 2 expert validators and validated on 31 class X high school students empirically who were selected by cluster random sampling and tested on 2 expert validators. In this study, the results obtained 10 valid questions and 1 invalid question with a reliability value of 0.86. Therefore, this creative thinking question instrument can be used as a measuring tool for student creativity. It is hoped that this research can be further developed through implementation by students.

Abstract

Communication is one of the skills that play an important role in the scope of life. Especially in the world of education, the ability to communicate can be improved through learning with innovative media delivered by teachers during teaching and learning activities. In supporting learning, one of the sophisticated digital media that is easily accessible is the learning management system Schoology. The purpose of this research is to find out the improvement of students' communication skills on the material of environmental change in senior high school through the application of the learning management system Schoology. Learning Management System Schoology is a site that combines the features of social networking and LMS. The method used is pre-experimental in the form of one group Pretest-Posttest design and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. The subjects in this study were students of class X MIPA 7 at SMAN 1 Palimanan, totaling 30 people. Based on the results of the calculation of N-gaincalculation it is known that this study has a significant developmental impact. The results showed an increase in students' communication skills by 16.92%. The average value of the Pretest is 65 which is included in the "Enough" category and increased in the Posttest with a value of 76 which is included in the "Good" category. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an increase in students' communication skills through the application of Learning management system Schoology on environmental change material in senior high school.

Abstract

Waste water from the process of making tofu causes environmental pollution because it has acidic and cloudy. The acidic nature of the tofu waste is a result of the process of adding vinegar to the clumping process. Therefore, it is necessary to treat waste before it is discharged into river bodies in order to reduce organic matter and suspended and dissolved solids in the waste water. One of the effective and low cost ways is the phytoremediation process. The water plant that can be used as a remediator is Pistia stratiotes. This study was to determine the interaction between variations weight and remained of Pistia stratiotes on the improvement of the quality tofu waste water and its use as a source of biology learning. The approach and type of this research are quantitative and true experiment. Sampling of waste water was carried out at the industrial center of making tofu as much as 70 liters in Pakunden Village, taking Pistia stratiotes from the swamps around the river flow of Kali Lahar, Blitar City. Sample testing was carried out at Jasa Tirta I, Malang. This study consisted of 10 treatment groups and 3 control groups with 3 repetitions with variations weight of 80 g, 90 g, 100 g, 110g, 120g and remained of 7 days and 14 days. The experimental design used in this experiment was a completely randomized design, the results of this study can be used as a source of information on Biology learning that has been adjusted to the 6 requirements of learning resources.

Abstract

Learning carried out by educators requires teaching materials. Electronic student worksheets or e-LKPD are one type of teaching material. This study examines the profile of learning biology with e-LKPD. The aim is to obtain an overview of the teaching and learning process and the problems faced by teachers on student worksheets in learning biology material at SMA South Sulawesi. The subjects of this study were 10 schools consisting of 10 teachers of biology subjects. The method used is a survey using a questionnaire and a checklist given to 10 high school teachers in South Sulawesi. The data were obtained by using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the ownership of the LKPD in 10 Biology subject teachers in South Sulawesi is quite high, but the use of the electronic version of the LKPD is still not optimal. LKPD has a varied learning approach, students are motivated and play an active role in learning activities when using LKPD. The cognitive level of the learning objectives of the teacher LKPD is still relatively low, the formulation of objectives in the LKPD which has implications for the application of science process skills is still relatively low, and assignments in the teacher LKPD have not been maximized. The benefit of this research is that it can provide an overview of the learning process and the obstacles experienced by the teacher on the student worksheets.

Abstract

This research is an attempt to obtain information about the quality of the types of HOTS questions in Makassar City High School and provide solutions as reference material in determining the next Biology Questions that will be made. This research was conducted descriptively where data was collected to study the types of HOTS questions and obtain information about them. The following methods were used to obtain data for this study: (1). Problem solving, researchers, lecturers, and teachers analyzed each question based on the three characteristics contained in each item: 2) indicators consisting of stimulus, critical thinking skills, and problem solving abilities, 3) conducting Focus Group Discussions to see if each belong to the item in question. Count the data for each question number analysis finding. The analysis findings were then tabulated for each indication. Almost all of the HOTS questions (84%) and the "almost all" feature (94.2%) were found to be in accordance with the specifications of the competency achievement indicators in this study. All HOTS type questions have a stimulus on the stimulus indicator. Pictures stimulate "half" of the HOTS questions, case fragments stimulate "less than half", and diagrams, tables, and examples stimulate only a small number. In terms of critical thinking indicators, 91.86 percent of the HOTS questions in the "almost all" category have critical thinking characteristics, while "a small part" (26.23 percent) HOTS questions are problem solving, such as problem solving questions with identifying indicators. Troubleshooting identifies non-conforming issues, and solves problems based on data.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking ability is still low in biology learning due to the lack of student activity in the teaching and learning process so that it is necessary to apply a reciprocal teaching-learning model. This model can make students become active during the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of the reciprocal teaching-learning model on the critical thinking skills of SMA Negeri 4 Madiun students. The research design used is quantitative research with hypothesis testing using t-test. The research data was taken from the population of class XI MIPA at SMAN 4 Madiun which amounted to 120 students. The sampling technique was stratified random sampling, with class XI MIPA 3 as the control class and XI MIPA 4 as the experimental class. The results of the study by calculating the value hypothesis test obtained that t count (2.101) > t-table (2.0017), where H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. This study concludes that there is an effect of the reciprocal teaching-learning model on the critical thinking skills of SMA Negeri 4 Madiun students.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low learning outcomes of students in science subjects. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of thelearning model Group Investigation (GI) and improve science learning outcomes for seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Umbu Ratu Nggay. The research method used is a group discussion method using an interactive strategy and analyzed using a quantitative approach. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in pre-cycle activities, cycle I and cycle II consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were 25th graders of class VII. The results showed that the application of the learning model GI could improve student learning outcomes in science subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Umbu Ratu Nggay. This increase can be seen during the pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II through the learning carried out. The increase in student learning outcomes in the pre-cycle stage was worth 36%, the first cycle reached 64% and increased in the second cycle to 92%. In line with the increase in student learning outcomes by applying the GI learning model, this is similar to the observation of student learning activities at SMP N 1 Umbu Ratu Nggay class VII in science subjects material characteristics of living things through the GI learning model. Because it uses the GI learning model. Practical benefits are expected to add teacher references in implementing learning models that increase student participation.

Abstract

There are very few books of Lichens as a bioindicator of air pollution in the city of Medan, so the purpose of this study is to develop a non-textbook about Lichens as a research-based bioindicator of air pollution in the city of Medan. This type of research used Research and Development 4D Thiagarajan. The method used in this research is the book feasibility test, N-Gain, and t-test. The validated book results are 88% (material aspect is very feasible), 82% (language aspect is very feasible category) and 83% (graphic aspect is very feasible category). The results of the product trial showed that the test results obtained were 87% (the individual aspect was in the very feasible category), 82% (the small group was in the very feasible category) and 85% (the limited group was very feasible category). The non-text book was then tested for the effectiveness of its use on 28 students, it was obtained 0.84 with a percentage of 80% (effective) and the general public as many as 25 high school teachers, it obtained 0.93 with a percentage of 93% (effective). The t-test results obtained tcount> ttable, namely, 9.096> 1.703 for the cognitive abilities of students majoring in Biology at the State University of Medan, and the ttest results obtained tcount> ttable namely, 8.345> 1.729 for general public cognitive, it can be concluded that the results of the t-test are obtained significantly, and non-text books have an effect on improving cognitive abilities of students and the general public, with α = 0.05.
