Abstract

Language is reflection of culture. With advancement of technology, interactions not limited to face-to-face communication but also occur online, creating a digital environment. This study aims to explore how netizen interactions (man-to-man) on TikTok shape public perceptions of Arabic language through cultural dimensions, as well as how social media algorithms contribute to the formation of these perceptions (man-to-machine). Using a qualitative critical analysis approach with netnography method, the study examines interactions among netizens in comment sections, revealing two main cultural perspectives: Arabic as a religious language and as a poetic language. NLP-based sentiment analysis shows that Arabic is valued not only for its religious function but also for its beauty. Moreover, human machine interactions via algorithms influence content exposure and shape public perceptions. The findings highlight that public opinion about language is constructed through both social interactions and algorithmic mechanisms, expanding understanding of relationship between language, culture, and media.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the translation methods and accuracy applied in Indonesian song lyrics translated into Arabic. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach, with data collected through observation and note-taking techniques. A total of 187 data items were analyzed to determine translation strategies and levels of accuracy. The findings reveal eight translation methods used in the lyrics: word-for-word translation (8 data, 4.28%), literal translation (35 data, 18.72%), faithful translation (68 data, 36.36%), semantic translation (39 data, 20.86%), idiomatic translation (10 data, 5.35%), adaptation (3 data, 1.60%), free translation (23 data, 12.30%), and communicative translation (1 data, 0.53%). The accuracy assessment shows that 47.06% of the translations are accurate, 44.92% less accurate, and 8.02% inaccurate. Based on the average score of 2.39, the translation of Indonesian song lyrics on the Markaz Arabiyah YouTube channel is categorized as less accurate, suggesting improvements are needed in precision and cultural adaptation.

Abstract

This study aimed to design, develop, and evaluate H5P-based interactive video media to improve Arabic reading skills (maha>rah al-qira>'ah) among tenth-grade students at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Ihsan Muhammadiyah Sragen. Employing the ADDIE model, the research followed systematic stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Expert validation yielded high validity (average 4.7/5). The product was tested on 30 students using pre-test, post-test, questionnaires, and observations. Results showed a significant improvement in reading comprehension (t = 12.45, p < 0.001), with mean scores increasing from 58.3 to 82.5. Questionnaire data indicated enhanced motivation (average 4.6/5) and learner autonomy. The integration of text, audio, visuals, and interactive quizzes improved cognitive engagement, in line with Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning and Self-Determination Theory. The study proves that H5P-based media offer an effective, low-cost solution for developing Arabic reading skills and encourages further exploration of its long-term impact.

Abstract

The I‘tiraf poem, often attributed to Abū Nuwās, is a significant work of Arabic literature widely known in Indonesia, especially among traditional Muslims. Although its authorship has long been debated, the poem remains alive through religious practices. This study employs a philological approach to examine its authenticity and applies literary reception theory to explore its dynamic interpretations and aesthetic dimensions using the Arabic rhetorical and stylistics approach (Balagah and Uslūbiyyah). The findings indicate that the attribution of the poem to Abū Nuwās is not genuine. However, the poem has been creatively received and localized: recited after Friday prayers in Banten during the handshake (mushafahah), incorporated into the Ḥizb Nahdlatul Wathan in Lombok, and chanted during zikr (invocation) and ḥaul (commemoration) rituals in Palembang. Its rhetorical strength and emotional depth make it a powerful spiritual medium, transforming it from a classical Arabic text into a collective prayer shaping Indonesian Muslim identity.
