Abstract

Biofertilizer is considered an alternative to chemical fertilizers for enhancing plant productivity while minimizing ecological damage. Endophytic bacteria have the ability to solubilize phosphate and produce IAA (indole acetic acid). The aim of this research is to assess the phosphate solubilization and IAA production abilities of bacterial isolates applied to chili plants. Seven bacterial isolates collection from the Microbiology Laboratory, Universitas Sumatera Utara, were tested. In quantitative tests conducted in vitro, isolates MB10 and MB11 demonstrated the highest phosphate solubilization capabilities, yielding solubilization indices of 16.2 mm and 9.5 mm, respectively. Additionally, the ability of bacterial isolates to produce IAA in vitro was evaluated using calorimetry, revealing that isolates MB8 and MB2 produced the highest concentrations of IAA, measuring 58.58 ppm and 54.64 ppm, respectively. Furthermore, in vivo application involved the inoculation of isolates MB10 and MB11 on chili plants for 30 days. Seed treatment with suspensions of isolates MB10 and MB11 resulted in decreased plant performance compared to the control. These findings indicate that some endophytic bacteria originating from the mangrove root Avicennia marina have potential for producing relatively high levels of secondary metabolites. However, direct application did not significantly enhance plant growth performance.

Abstract

Sorghum production needs to be increased to meet food or feed needs because sorghum grain has nutritional qualities that are comparable to other grains such as corn. One of the advantages of the sorghum plant is the growth of new shoots from the base of the harvested stem which produces new plants, ratoon, that grow until they can be harvested. This experiment examines the ratoon potential of 5 sorghum varieties, Bioguma, Samurai, Pahat, Suri4, and the local Gando Keta variety so that we can utilize ratoon technology on these sorghum varieties. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a Completely Randomized Design. It can be confirmed from this experiment that the dry matter weight of the main plants is higher compared to the ratoon plants' dry matter weight, however, the yield of the ratoon was higher than that of the main plants. Seed size contributes to the higher yield of the ratoon plants.  Among all the varieties tested, Suri4 and Pahat show the best ratoon potential. Gando Keta, the local variety, has the lowest grain yield of main and ratoon compared to the other varieties.

Abstract

This research aims to see the influence of the SSI approach in the context of controversial environmental issues on chemistry students' HOTS abilities. The research method used was quasi-experimental with a post-test-only control group design. The research subjects were 26 students in class A of the chemistry education study program as the control class and 21 students in the ICP class of the chemistry education study program as the experimental class. The instruments used are observation sheets and test questions that measure students' HOTS abilities. The results of this study show that the average post-test score of the experimental class using the SSI approach was 80.15, while the average score of the control class was 60.5. The t-test shows that this difference is statistically significant with a p-value of 1.122 x 10-5, well below the 0.05 significance level. Because the p-value obtained is much smaller than 0.05, we can reject the null hypothesis (H0), which states that there is no significant difference between the two groups. These results indicate that the SSI approach in the context of controversial environmental issues has a positive influence on chemistry students' HOTS abilities in electrochemical concepts.

Abstract

Pump that operates automatically by relying on natural power from water without using great cost and trouble by pumping hydram. Hydram pumps are one of the types of pumps that are driven by kinetic power, it was discovered by a 1796 Montgolfier in Italy. The purpose is to determine the most optimal water speed of the hydram pump by using different numbers of pressure tubes and several check valves. This research uses a factorial Randomised Group Design (RGD) method. The first treatment is valve variation and the second is variation in the number of tubes. The results showed that the average river water flow velocity was 0.154 meters/second with an average water discharge of 2.61 m3/second under normal flow conditions. The average water flow in the intake pipe is 0.717 meters / second and the volume of water in the pipe is 15.19 liters with an average water discharge entering the intake pipe is 10.804 m3 / second. A combination of three valves and three tube treatments consistently produces greater water discharge than other combinations. The highest efficiency of the hydram pump is found in the combination of three checks.
