Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical period susceptible to oxidative stress due to physiological, hormonal, and metabolic changes. One of the main antioxidant enzymes involved in combating oxidative stress is Superoxide Dismutase (SOD). Otaria gymnastics, a form of light physical exercise combining movement, breathing, and relaxation, is believed to increase the body's antioxidant capacity. This study aimed to determine the effect of Otaria gymnastics on SOD levels in postpartum mothers. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. The sample consisted of 30 postpartum mothers divided into an intervention group (n = 15) who performed Otaria gymnastics for 7 days and a control group (n = 15) without intervention. SOD levels were measured using spectrophotometry. The study showed a significant increase in SOD levels in the intervention group of 0.44 U/mL (p = 0.001), while the control group experienced a decrease of 0.16 U/mL (p = 0.021). The intergroup test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that Otaria Exercise is effective in increasing SOD levels and strengthening the body's antioxidant defenses in postpartum mothers. Otaria Exercise can be recommended as a simple non-pharmacological intervention in postpartum recovery programs to support maternal health holistically.

Abstract

Indonesia faces the problem of forest degradation, with Forest and Land Rehabilitation (FLR) being one of the key efforts undertaken to address it. This study analyzes the formal institutional framework governing FLR implementation in Indonesia using the Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) Framework, focusing on Ostrom’s concept of rules-in-use. Content analysis was conducted on four main regulations: Law No. 41 of 1999, Government Regulation No. 26 of 2020, Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.2 of 2020, and Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.23 of 2021. The findings show that seven types of institutional rules, position, boundary, choice, aggregation, information, scope, and payoff rules, are included in these regulations, but they are not yet fully synchronized. The distribution of roles among actors remains overlapping, coordination mechanisms are weak, and incentive rules are not clearly defined. Moreover, the regulations tend to emphasize administrative and physical aspects of planting rather than ecological and social outcomes. Weaknesses in this rules-in-form structure create unstable action arenas and reduce policy effectiveness. This study highlights that the success of FLR is determined not only by technical aspects but also by the clarity and consistency of formal rules. Harmonization of regulations, strengthened cross-actor coordination, and transparency of information are needed to ensure that FLR implementation supports the sustainable restoration of the forest’s ecological and social functions

Abstract

A study has been conducted on the Effective Dose of Sensitive Organs and the Risk of Cancer in Contrast to Abdominal CT-Scan Examination to determine the effective dose of sensitive organs and the risk of cancer in male and female patients. This study was conducted at Bali Mandara Hospital, and data was used, namely, 60 CT-scans of the Abdomen in contrast to patient examination data. The sensitive organs of concern in this study are the stomach, colon, bladder, and liver. To determine the effective dose value of sensitive organs, the equivalent dose value (????????) is multiplied by the value (W????) in each sensitive organ. From the calculation results obtained, it is known that the highest dose is received by the stomach and colon with a value of 9.90  ± 3.94  mSv for male patients and 8.82  ± 2.27 mSv for female patients. To find out the cancer risk value in each organ for male and female patients is done by multiplying the equivalent dose value (????????) by the value (rt) in each organ in adult patients. From the results obtained, patients with the highest risk of cancer are male patients with the highest risk, namely the colon organ, with a risk of 79,16 ×10-4 %. From the results obtained, an analysis was carried out to compare the cancer risk in male and female patients for each organ using the Independent T-Test. From the results obtained, it was found that there was a difference in cancer risk between the two patients, where male patients have a greater risk of cancer than women, with the highest average difference in cancer risk, namely 0.00086 ± 0.00066% in the colon organ

Abstract

Natural fibers from pineapple leaves (Ananas comosus L.) are a potential renewable resource, but their characteristics are highly dependent on their geographical origin. This study aimed to characterize the physico-mechanical properties and morphology of pineapple leaf fibers (PALF) sourced from local farmers in Kediri, East Java. Characterization was conducted at an accredited testing institution using SNI standards, covering fineness, bundle tenacity, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations. The results revealed that the fibers exhibited an average fineness of 33.7 dtex and a tenacity of 23.20 g/tex. Morphological analysis showed a course, multi-cellular, and dense fiber structure. Based on these findings, it is concluded that these PALF demonstrate greater potential for applications in technical textiles and as reinforcement in bio-composite materials rather than as a raw material for apparel yarn.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in improving human resources and shaping adaptive character. To address post-pandemic learning challenges, Indonesia introduced the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing flexibility and competency development. This study evaluates the Merdeka Curriculum implementation at SMKN 1 Luak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, using the CIPP (Contextual, Input, Process, Product) model. The evaluation covers the 2023/2024 academic year, following its introduction in 2022. A mixed-method approach (qualitative and quantitative) was used for data collection through observations, interviews with teachers, students, and administrators, and analysis of relevant curriculum documents. The results indicate that the context aspect (National Education Standards and School-Level Curriculum) is very good (91.11%). The input aspect (teacher qualifications, infrastructure, reference books) is generally good, but there are shortcomings in qualified teachers, reference books, and subject guidelines. The learning process is rated as adequate (77.18%), with challenges in teaching strategies and student engagement. Student learning outcomes were rated as adequate (79.12%), with room for improvement in critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The Merdeka Curriculum positively impacts education quality, but improvements in facilities, teacher training, and motivation are needed to optimize its effectiveness. These findings suggest schools with similar contexts can benefit by focusing on teaching infrastructure and professional development.

Abstract

Environmental awareness among preservice teachers is an essential component of environmental education, yet its development is often influenced by limited knowledge and insufficient integration of environmental issues in higher education. This study aims to analyze the level of environmental awareness of prospective chemistry teachers based on three dimensions: knowledge, attitude, and behavior. A quantitative descriptive design was employed involving 127 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale, and analyzed descriptively by determining mean scores and category levels. The results showed that environmental awareness was in the moderate category for the knowledge aspect (M = 3.31) and in the high category for both attitude (M = 3.72) and behavior (M = 3.67). These findings indicate that students demonstrate positive attitudes and environmentally responsible behavior despite having limited conceptual knowledge. The study concludes that strengthening environmental knowledge through integrated instructional strategies, exposure to scientific literature, and collaborative environmental programs is essential. Further research should explore intervention-based models to enhance environmental literacy and examine factors influencing awareness development across different teacher education programs.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of lime-based flocculants as a treatment method for Sidoarjo mud (LUSI) to improve solid–liquid separation and reduce the environmental impact of its discharge into the Porong River. Several commercial lime-derived flocculants were tested through jar experiments to evaluate their effectiveness in promoting particle aggregation and enhancing settling behavior under conditions similar to the existing treatment pond. The results indicate that a mud-to-water ratio of 1:4 provided the most efficient sedimentation performance, reflected by faster settling rates and clearer supernatant. Among the flocculants examined, differences in chemical composition and particle morphology influenced the degree of aggregation and overall clarity of the treated water. The treatment substantially reduced turbidity and suspended solids, while also lowering chloride levels in the clarified water. These findings suggest that lime-based flocculants are a feasible option for mitigating the environmental burden of LUSI mud disposal by improving separation efficiency.
