Abstract

The development of digital technology for education is continuously conducted to successfully integrate digital technology with people's lives. This study aimed to develop an Augmented Reality learning media application for the Engineering Mechanics course, which is considered challenging by some students. Engineering mechanics, a discipline that analyzes structural analysis in compensating for the loads that work on a particular machine in scalar quantities, motion forces, vectors, and moments that require physical structural forms to analyze them, is considered challenging by some students. The Augmented Reality application was created using the prototyping method, which consists of three steps: 1) listening to the customer, 2) building/ revising mock-up, and 3) customer test-drivers mock-up. The AR-based learning media application includes usage instructions, developer info, learning videos, 3D AR object animation simulations, and exercise and discussion menus, which were tested as expected. The results of the black box testing indicate that the Augmented Reality-based engineering mechanics learning media application ran successfully as expected. However, users suggested improving the navigation speed by streamlining page transitions. The application provides an accessible solution for students as an alternative to traditional distance education, offering anytime, anywhere access to learning materials with longer duration.

Abstract

Education has a central role in preparing individuals for the complexities of the modern world of work. Particularly in the context of education in Vocational High Schools, developing students' competencies in collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving is essential. This study explores the effectiveness of the case-based learning method in improving students' understanding of industrial mechanics. The study used a quasi-experiment design with control and experimental groups. The statistical analysis results showed that the case method was more effective in improving students' cognitive mastery than the conventional lecture method. Students who participated in case method learning showed significant improvement in the post-intervention test, demonstrating the superiority of this method in supporting a more effective learning process and preparing students for practical challenges in the field. In conclusion, the case method increases students' participation and interactivity in the learning process and deepens their understanding of technical concepts in industrial mechanics. This research provides a solid basis for implementing more effective and relevant learning methods in preparing vocational students for the increasingly complex needs of the world of work.

Abstract

Vocational High Schools provide knowledge of skills, interests, and talents according to vocational fields to face the world of work. The phenomenon that occurred in February 2022 stated that most SMK graduates were ready to work. Because of this, the data from the Central Bureau of Statistics on SMK graduates have a total score of 10.38%. So there is unemployment and a lack of interest and talent in choosing a vocational field. Based on information in determining vocational fields based on interests, talents, and colleagues there is no discrepancy between the major one chooses and personality. In measuring products, the Simple Additive Weighting method can be used to select the best alternative in the ranking process which totals the weight values of all criteria.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the development of 4C skills (Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication) among students. Through meta-analysis, data from 20 national and international journal articles published between 2018 and 2023 were analyzed. Findings indicate that the consistent use of PBL yields a highly significant effect, with an average effect size of 1.72. These results affirm the effectiveness of PBL in enhancing students' 4C skills, underscoring the importance of this instructional approach in the context of 21st-century education, which emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. The practical implications of this study highlight the necessity of integrating PBL models in instructional design to facilitate the development of 21st-century skills among students. Further research could delve into specific aspects of PBL usage and its impacts on student learning outcomes and academic achievement.

Abstract

In 2020, Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology introduced the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum for higher education to better prepare students for the modern job market. This study contrasts the MBKM curriculum with the non-MBKM curriculum, focusing on their impacts on students' career exploration and professional maturity. Using a quantitative, correlational approach, the study sampled 187 engineering students from a Medan university. Instruments included the Career Exploration Survey (CES) and the Career Development Inventory (CDI). Results showed that both curricula positively influence career exploration and professional maturity, with no significant differences between the two. The MBKM curriculum's emphasis on real-world experience and career preparation was highlighted as a key factor in fostering career readiness. The study concludes that both curricula effectively support career development, but the MBKM curriculum offers a more practical, hands-on approach to preparing students for the workforce.
