Abstract

The rapid use of Instagram and the emergence of nano-micro influencers and the Bookstagram community are the background to this research, also focusing on the low interest in reading in Indonesia. In realizing reading behavior, their role in virtual space becomes urgent in providing information literacy. This study aims to explore the experiences of nano-micro Bookstagram influencers in maximizing the use of Instagram to increase interest in reading. This study will discuss how the phenomenon of reading interest in Indonesia is interpreted, the characteristics of their followers, and the strategies and techniques used to attract attention and increase audience engagement. The method used is qualitative research with a cyberphenomenology approach, where data was collected through in-depth interviews with 16 Indonesian nano-micro Bookstagram influencers, and data analysis followed Moustakas' 10 techniques. The results of the study provide an overview of internal and external factors that influence people's interest in reading, as well as typification of follower characteristics, such as learner followers, book recommendation collectors, and followers with positive attitudes. By utilizing Instagram features such as Reels, carousel post formats, Instagram Stories, Highlights, Shares, and Channels creatively, these influencers can increase interaction and expand their influence. The findings of this study also provide in-depth insights into the dynamics of communication in the digital era, especially in efforts to increase interest in reading in Indonesia. This research is expected to provide a significant contribution in understanding the role of influencers in advancing literacy in modern Indonesian society.

Abstract

Social media has undergone a transformation from a mere entertainment platform into a digital public sphere that facilitates broad political and social expression. TikTok, as one of the most popular short-video platforms, has become a powerful medium for voicing criticism against public figures, including Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The rise of hate speech on TikTok signals a crisis in communication ethics and the weakness of digital content regulation in Indonesia. While prior research has addressed political polarization in social media, few studies have specifically examined how theatrical content and hate narratives are disseminated on TikTok as a public space lacking editorial gatekeepers. This study aims to explore forms of hate speech targeting President Jokowi on TikTok and to analyze the ethical and regulatory gaps that enable its circulation. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth observation of eight TikTok videos that featured theatrical, provocative, and symbolically aggressive elements. The findings reveal that hate content is expressed through verbal insults, visual symbolism, and the manipulation of political issues such as nepotism, ethical violations, and electoral law revisions. These results highlight the need to reformulate theories of the public sphere and communication ethics in the digital age. The study recommends the development of more adaptive regulatory systems and the strengthening of digital literacy among users. Theoretically, it contributes to the expansion of digital public sphere theory, mediation theory, and social identity theory within the context of algorithmic virality.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media has shaped the dynamics of social communication, especially among Millennials and Generation Z. This study aims to interpret the communication styles of the two generations on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), focusing on their interactions in the "Angry Community" which is a place for expressing emotions and social issues. Using a qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm, this study explores how social reality is expressed and shaped through digital communication patterns. The results show significant differences in communication styles: members of the Angry Community from the Millennial Generation tend to adopt a more careful, systematic, and reflective communication style, emphasizing information verification and maintaining politeness. In contrast, Generation Z shows a more expressive, spontaneous, and informal communication style, often using slang, sarcasm, abbreviations, and emojis to voice complaints and share authentic experiences, although sometimes lacking verification. This study identifies that six dominant issues (such as economic inequality, social pressure, and job discrimination) are expressed with the distinctive communication styles of each generation, making the Angry Community a reflection of the complexity of digital expression and intergenerational interaction that also highlights structural problems in society.

Abstract

Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace is located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat is recognized as the nation's cultural heritage which has been passed down from generation to generation and is regulated in the Law on the Special Region of Yogyakarta No. 13 of 2012. The courtier at the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace is one of the actors of Javanese cultural preservation. They are people who dedicate their lives to working in the palace and come from people who have blood relations with the royal family or ordinary people who have a desire to devote themselves. The Abdi Dalem of the Ngayogyakarta Palace consists of two groups, namely Keprajan and Punakawan. A courtier is a person who has retired and gives time, knowledge, and energy to help the palace, while the courtier is punakawan from the general public. Punakawan courtiers are still divided into two groups, namely Punakawan Tepas who have working hours like office employees, and Punakawan Caos who is on duty every ten days. The majority of palace courtiers come from the Javanese ethnic group, the largest ethnic group in Indonesia. For the courtier, if he is in the environment, the philosophy of the court is applicable which means that every movement of the courtier is obliged to perform sembah in the palace. Every time he steps past a certain place or object, the courtier is required to perform sembah, cupping both palms in front of his chest with his head slightly lowered. This qualitative research with an ethnographic approach was carried out at the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace by interviewing three resource persons from different districts or tepas. Sembah is one of the symbols of respect or greetings taklim to people of higher rank or places in the palace that are considered sacred. Sembah does not mean worship as in the concept of worship of Balinese Hindus. When performing sembah, the thumb of the hand faces upwards as symbol of the relationship with God while the other four fingers are straight forward as symbol of the relationship with nature, the relationship with man, the relationship with animals, and finally the relationship with the invisible nature. Male sembah is different from female sembah.

Abstract

The utilization of places of worship as sustainable religious destinations necessitates not only the strategic management of communication with relevant stakeholders but also the preservation of cultural heritage, belief systems, and communal traditions. Furthermore, it requires safeguarding historical monuments and religious rituals while promoting environmental sustainability to maintain both the ecological integrity and the spiritual sanctity of the site. This research focuses on identifying the key stakeholders and evaluating the communication strategies employed between the management of the religious tourism site and other involved parties at Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkarta. Utilizing a sequential mixed-methods approach, which combines qualitative and quantitative research, data was gathered through comprehensive interviews and observations. This was further enriched by a SWOT analysis to establish effective management strategies. The Pentahelix model was applied to highlight the roles of five primary stakeholders: government, academia, community, business, and media. Findings from the IFAS and EFAS analyses suggest that while the natural allure of sites like Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkarta is significant, it must be matched by enhancements in infrastructure and accessibility. Managing religious tourism destinations such as Pura Parahyangan Agung Jagatkarta requires close collaboration among government, local communities, and businesses to optimize resources, improve infrastructure, and enhance accessibility. Sustainable management must address visitor surges, provide education on local rules and traditions, and preserve the sanctity and sacred atmosphere of the site. These measures ensure that the destination supports tourism while maintaining its cultural and religious values.

Abstract

This study aims to identify public sentiment and analyze opinion polarization related to the "Indonesia Gelap" phenomenon on social media. This phenomenon emerged as a form of public protest with government policies, which was expressed through the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap. The research method used Social Media Analysis (SMA). The results showed a significant spike in mentions, reach, and engagement on social media related to this phenomenon, especially in mid-February 2025 which was triggered by student demonstrations. Negative sentiment dominated the conversation, indicating public dissatisfaction with government policies. The polarization of public opinion was also clearly visible, with various groups having different views, especially regarding political figures and national issues. Social media has been shown to play a role as a trigger for polarization through the spread of emotional content and opinion manipulation. Meanwhile, news portals have the potential to form consensus through credible reporting. The study concludes that the  “Indonesia Gelap” phenomenon has sparked intense and polarized discussions on social media, with significant impacts on public opinion and social dynamics. The study recommends improving digital media literacy, developing responsible social media platforms, and strengthening regulations to address polarization.

Abstract

Svargabumi has emerged as one of the premier tourism destinations in the Borobudur area, part of the Borobudur super-priority tourism destinations. Svargabumi offers a blend of natural beauty and a variety of Instagram-worthy photo spots, making it a popular attraction. Promoting such destinations through social media is recognized as one of the most effective ways to showcase cultural richness. However, social media promotion must be accompanied by monitoring to ensure strategic accuracy and evaluate public opinion and sentiment. This process, known as social media monitoring, faces the challenge of managing the vast volume of data generated by online activities. Therefore, appropriate tools are essential for this purpose, one of which is Brand24, which provides comprehensive analysis, including statistical data and detailed information on all related media coverage. The research question posed is how to analyze the social media monitoring of the super-priority destination Svargabumi Borobudur. This study aims to analyze the social media monitoring of Svargabumi Borobudur as a super-priority destination. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study seeks to produce comprehensive and objective data. The research subjects are public sentiment and opinions on social media about Svargabumi, with the key informant being Svargabumi’s Marketing Manager, referred to as A. The research object is the social media monitoring of the super-priority destination Svargabumi Borobudur. The data collection technique used in this study was the social media monitoring tool, Brand24. Social media monitoring using Brand24 revealed that Svargabumi has a significant digital presence on Instagram, the primary platform for discussions about the destination. Svargabumi also has significant economic value through mentions, with an estimated Advertising Value Equivalency (AVE) of $7,008. Positive sentiments, with 33 items, also dominated, indicating that Svargabumi has successfully built a strong digital reputation among tourists. Furthermore, user-generated content and contributions from micro- and nano-influencers are key elements in increasing audience exposure and engagement. However, engagement on platforms like TikTok and YouTube can still be improved to maximize potential reach.

Public Relations (PR) has a strategic role as a managerial function in university management to support the achievement of the vision and mission of higher education institutions. This article examines the position, function, and strategy of PR within the university organizational structure, as well as its role in facilitating two-way communication between the organization and the public. Using theoretical and practical approaches, the article highlights the importance of PR in building harmonious relationships, managing the institution's image, and communicating strategic policies. In addition, it discusses the challenges faced by PR in universities, such as the low attention of the leadership to the role of PR and the need to develop the competence of the PR team. Placing PR in a strategic structural position can improve communication effectiveness, strengthen relationships with internal and external publics, and support the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This article emphasizes that PR is a managerial function that has a strategic role in supporting the success of university management. PR does not only carry out communication tasks, but is also involved in building an image, maintaining mutually beneficial relationships between the university and its public, and supporting the achievement of the institution's vision and mission.

Abstract

This study explores the structure of public discourse on the condition of the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) grass field on social media platform X (Twitter) using a Social Network Analysis (SNA) approach. The discourse emerged amid growing controversy involving players, government officials, and the public concerning the field's quality during international football matches. Data were collected through web scraping for the period of January 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, resulting in 5,011 tweets. The analysis was conducted using Gephi to identify central actors, network patterns, and community modularity. The results indicate a scale-free network structure, where a few dominant nodes such as @idextratime, @CoachJustinL, and @erickthohir served as key Online Opinion Leaders (OOL), showing high scores across degree, betweenness, closeness, and eigenvector centrality metrics. Furthermore, the discourse network revealed significant fragmentation, with over a thousand modularity classes, reflecting a highly participatory yet polarized digital conversation landscape. These findings highlight that influence within digital public discourse is not solely held by formal institutions, but also by grassroots actors who occupy strategic network positions. This study underscores the importance of collaborative engagement between public institutions and influential network actors to better manage digital narratives and promote constructive public engagement.
