The results of this study indicate that Surau Tinggi Calau is one of the cultural heritages and Islamic history that has an important role in the development of education in Minangkabau, especially in Muaro Sijunjung nagari. The establishment of Surau Tinggi Calau is inseparable from the struggle of a great scholar named Sheikh Abdul Wahab around the 17th century. He taught Islam which was guided by the Syafi'i school of thought with the syattariyah tarekat school. Surau Tinggi Calau has a distinctive shape, at first glance this surau does not look like a house of worship in general, but this surau is in the form of a gadang house with a six-pitched roof, reflecting aesthetic values and local wisdom. This surau functions not only as a place of worship, but also as an Islamic educational institution and teaching center for the Syattariah order.

Abstract

This study emphasizes the transformation of the values of the Sīrah Nabawiyyah in the context of character education for Generation Z, while identifying the challenges and opportunities in integrating these values into modern education. The key objective of this study is to analyze and understand how the younger generation can relate lessons from the Sīrah to the context of their daily lives. Data have been collected through questionnaires distributed to 203 students, as well as narrative analysis of relevant literature to understand the values in the Sīrah. The application of analytical methods has included the Theory of Character Education by Lickona and the Theory of Contextual Learning by Dewey, with primary sources in the form of Sīrah books and character education documents. The findings have shown that students tend to prioritize understanding the historical context and the suitability and harmony of Islamic values in modern life, so suggestions for further research are to explore the combination of religious education and active learning. Despite the limitations in the number of respondents, this study provides a significant contribution to the development of appropriate, responsible, and applicable Islamic values-based learning methods, and paves the way for further exploration of the long-term impacts of character education in diverse contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the development and influence of Salafi educational institutions in Indonesia on the national education system, particularly Islamic education. Employing a qualitative approach through literature review, the research traces the origins, classifications, and dissemination strategies of two major Salafi branches: Traditionalist and Reformist. The findings indicate that Salafi educational institutions have grown significantly since the 1980s, driven by financial support from Gulf countries and Middle Eastern alumni networks. Traditionalist Salafi institutions are generally exclusive, emphasizing a literalist-scriptural curriculum focused on Islamic creed (tauhid) while minimizing general education. In contrast, Reformist Salafis such as Muhammadiyah, Persis, and Al-Irsyad integrate religious teachings with modern science and general education. The impact of these institutions is ambivalent—while they offer a structured model of Islamic education, their rigid ideological stance may challenge national values of pluralism and tolerance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the values of Islamic Religious Education are reflected in the behavior of students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. HAMKA (UHAMKA) when doing activities on social media. This research uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with six active students from various faculties who consciously and actively use social media. The results showed that UHAMKA students make social media not only as a means of communication and entertainment, but also as a space for learning, sharing kindness, and building personal branding by prioritizing Islamic ethics and values. They are accustomed to applying the principle of tabayun (verification of information), maintaining digital communication ethics, and balancing the use of social media with worship obligations. The values of Islamic education that are internalized through formal learning and campus religious activities have proven to play an important role in shaping awareness of social media in a healthy, responsible manner, and oriented towards the benefits of the world and the hereafter.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspectives of Muslimah students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Education (FPEB), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) batch 2023 towards the challenges of gender equality in a patriarchal culture. Using a quantitative descriptive method, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to respondents. The results showed that patriarchal culture still strongly influences the role and position of women in society, especially in social and professional aspects. As many as 64% of respondents agreed with the statement that women's roles are still limited by social norms, feeling that they are considered less competent than men. The study also found that women are often associated with weakness or dependence on men. These findings suggest the need for greater efforts to address gender stereotypes and encourage more inclusive equality. This research is expected to make theoretical and practical contributions in enriching the study of gender equality as well as recommendations for educational institutions to create an environment that supports women's empowerment.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the strategy of learning habituation as part of the hidden curriculum in shaping and enhancing Islamic character among students at SMA Muhammadiyah 25 Setiabudi Pamulang. Islamic character is a crucial aspect of education that is instilled not only through Islamic Religious Education subjects but also through habitual practices in daily school life. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation involving teachers, students, and educational staff. The results show that the habituation strategy is implemented through routine activities such as congregational prayers, Qur'an recitation, collective prayers, and the cultivation of polite behavior. These habituations are consistently applied and integrated into the school culture, thus fostering Islamic values such as discipline, responsibility, honesty, and mutual respect. The role of teachers, parents, and the guidance and counseling approach also supports the success of this strategy. Despite challenges, such as the lack of continuity of habituation at home, the synergy between school and family becomes a key factor in sustainably instilling Islamic character. Therefore, the habituation strategy as a hidden curriculum has proven effective in improving students’ Islamic character and can serve as a model for strengthening character education based on Islamic values in schools.
