Journal of Teaching and Learning in Elementary Education (JTLEE) is an international peer-reviewed journal interested in any aspect related to teaching and learning in elementary education. Abstract

This survey research aimed at determining the ecological intelligence level of students. It involved 120 fourth grade students of elementary school. The findings revealed that the students’ intelligence level, with an average score of 77.48, was classified in ‘high’ category. In addition, other aspects were also classified into the ‘high’ category with an average score on attitude aspect of 78.19, skill aspect of 77.69, and participation aspect of 76.56. To conclude, the ecological intelligence of the fourth grade elementary school students was classified in ‘high’ category.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a substantial skill in elementary school. If children have the skill to read, facing other lesson would be easy. This study employs a quantitative descriptive method that aims at explaining numbers in words. The result showed that the average of students' reading skill after being exposed to graphic organizer-based reading comprehension teaching materials in determining the basic thoughts was of 63.75, and students' skill in explaining information was 71.04. At this stage, their skill was considered good enough, so that an improvement to design teaching materials and trainings should be facilitated for the teachers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is mainly to describe the performance of primary school teachers in the unit of education technical implementation in Banyumanik, Semarang. This research was conducted in January- August 2017. The sample of this research is 162 primary school teachers selected by random sampling technique in order to get the same opportunity as sample. The instruments used in this study were the assessment sheets, the Rating Sheet consisted of 64 items of question, and 3 indicators of Primary School Teacher Performance. The results show that each of Implementation of lesson plans is categorized very well (90, 9%), the execution of the learning is 83.4%, assessment of learning is good (82.8%). The Overall performance of primary school teachers is categorized good ( 85,7%). In other words, the primary school teachers of the unit of education technical implementation in Banyumanik Semarang can arrange the lesson plans, carry out learning and teaching process and assess the learning process in elementary school.

Abstract

The literacy skills of elementary school students in Indonesia, according to international instructional survey data such as PISA and PIRLS are generally at low ability level. Starting from this condition, the government then launched the School Literacy Program (SLP) which is in sync with the implementation of Curriculum 2013. This study aims to analyze and calculate the difference of literacy ability and students’ fourth graders critical thinking in schools that organize SLP in three areas of the village, transitions, and cities located in Sukabumi Indonesia. The results showed that the students' fourth-grade literacy ability at the SLP organizing school was at a low level of 66.89, the middle level 55, the high level 54.67, and the advanced level of 55.89. The students' critical thinking ability is at a low level of 82.94, 55.33 and 55.67. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that fourth graders students’ literacy ability at school organizer SLP in Sukabumi is at low level / factual literal. While fourth graders students’ critical thinking was able to reach low levels.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of visual thinking learning to problem solving skill. Quasi experiments with the design of this non-equivalent control group involved Grade V students in one of the Elementary Schools. The design of this study was quasi experimental nonequivalent control group, the research bullet used the existing class. The results of research are: 1) improvement of problem soving skill. The learning did not differ significantly between students who received conventional learning. 2) there is no interaction between learning (visual thinking and traditional) with students' mathematical skill (upper, middle and lower) on the improvement of skill. 3) there is a difference in the skill of language learning that is being constructed with visual learning of thought in terms of student skill (top, middle and bottom).

Abstract

This study aims to improve 3rd grade students’ science learning outcomes by learning to use visual multimedia. This research method uses classroom action research. The subject of this research was the third grade students of second semester of elementary school which conducted 30 students. Based on the results of research by using visual media, it have been found that the improvement learning outcome, seen from the initial average score before the action of 3rd grade class students from 65.5 to 83.83. The results of this study indicate that with the use of visual media can improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate effect of quantum teaching learning model to enhance students’ conceptual understanding on characteristic material concept. This study method was experiment with quasy experiment. Subject this research was fifth grade elementary school. Result of this study found significant score 0,000 < 0,05. It is mean that hypothesis of research was accepted. It can be concluded Quantum Teaching learning model can improve students’ conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to implementation jarimatika method to promote students’ mathematics learning outcome for elementary school. This study was conducted in class third elementary schools. Design of this research was classroom action research. Based on the results of mathematics learning students obtained data on the initial score taken from the scores of the first semester Mathematics exam students before the application of the Jarimatikaini method was 59.62 then the cycle I daily test increased by 13.63 to 73.42 with an increase percentage of 22.80%. It can be concluded that the application of the Jarimatika method can improve the results of third grade elementary school mathematics learning.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the prospective teachers activities to enhance teachers’ teaching skills utilized inquiry by perform reflective collaborative activities between teachers, coaches and prospective teachers. Activities reflection helps prospective teachers make improvements in the implementation of tasks so that for further learning meetings prospective teachers can improve teaching skills. Improved teaching ability to give impact on teacher activities and students who experience improvement at each meeting so that it has an influence on student learning outcomes. In understanding the concept of students' average heat energy increased from the average base score of 64.91 to 76.22. In understanding the concept of average student sound energy from the basic score to 81.72. The increase of learning result can be seen from the average of N-Gain on the understanding of the concept of heat energy of 0.32 medium categories and on the understanding of energy concept of 0.47 medium categories. This study concluded that the application of inquiry learning model can improve science learning outcomes based on reflection by prospective teachers.
