Abstract

This study addresses the low Japanese reading comprehension of students in the Japanese Language Education study program at FKIP, Universitas Riau. Interviews with students and lecturers revealed that the main obstacle was difficulty in understanding texts due to unfamiliar Japanese vocabulary. The research aimed to examine the effectiveness of comic media adapted from Riau Malay folklore to improve students’ reading comprehension in 2021. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design employing a pretest-posttest control group. The population consisted of 40 students enrolled in reading comprehension courses, with 20 students in the experimental class and 20 in the control class. The experimental class received three cycles of treatment using the comic media. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests, and analysis using an Independent Sample T-Test via SPSS version 25 yielded a significance value of 0.001, which is less than 0.05. This indicates that the Riau Malay folklore comic media effectively improved students’ Japanese reading comprehension.

Educational supervision is a structured effort aimed at improving, adapting, and developing educators’ competencies individually or in groups sustainably. It is often interpreted as enhancing the quality of students’ learning outcomes and processes through professional guidance by school supervisors. The research used School Action Research (SAR) with the Kemmis and McTaggart design model and was conducted at SDN 004 Teluk Binjai. The study involved 24 teachers as subjects. Two cycles of supervision were carried out, showing an increase in teacher competence. The pre-cycle assessment indicated an average competence score of 66.66, categorized as “quite sufficient.” Cycle I yielded 70.83, still “quite sufficient,” and Cycle II achieved 87.50, categorized as “good.” These results demonstrate that educational supervision effectively improves teacher professionalism.

Abstract

This article focuses on the development of an experimental guide animation video using the Powtoon application on Momentum and Impulse material in class X of SMA. It was designed to produce a valid experimental guide for animation video media and was worthy to be used as learning media in the classroom. Type of the study was Research and Development with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Quantitative data were validity values from the animated video of the experimental guide and qualitative data wereobtained from the validator’s comments and suggestions. The instrument used was the validation sheet of the animation video. The data were analyzed descriptively to determine the validity of the experimental guide animation video using Aiken's V formula. The results of the study indicated that the average value of Aiken's V validity index in the design aspect was 0.813, the pedagogical aspect was 0.845, the content aspect was 0.887, and the technical aspect was 0.795. The overall result of the average validity index value of Aiken's V was 0.834, in which the validity index value ofAiken's V has an indicator value of 0.40, hence it was declared as valid. Thus, it could be concluded that the experimental guide animation video using the Powtoon application on Momentum and Impulse material in class X of SMA was valid based on the design, pedagogical, content, and technical aspects.

Abstract

This article examines the improvement of students’ learning outcomes in social science by applying the Group Investigation (GI) learning model. GI is a cooperative learning method in which students actively participate in groups, express their opinions, and collaborate with peers. Learning outcomes are influenced by students’ understanding of concepts, goals, and motivation in relation to the learning material. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, which consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection in each cycle. The study involved 22 seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Benai, comprising 8 male and 14 female students, conducted from April to May 2022. The initial test showed an average score of 59.09%. Cycle I results increased to 77.27%, categorized as medium, and Cycle II results reached 90.90%, categorized as very high. These findings indicate that the Group Investigation learning model effectively improves students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This article discusses the improvement of teachers’ teaching creativity through the application of the demonstration method. Teaching creativity plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of students’ learning outcomes, as creativity involves the ability to design innovative learning products and activities. Pre-research observations conducted on August 2, 2022, at SD Negeri 03 Buana Bakti Siak identified several problems: (1) teaching materials were monotonous and lacked creativity, resulting in low student interest; (2) teachers had not actively involved students in the learning process, limiting the development of students’ creative thinking skills; and (3) teaching media were rarely used, making lessons less engaging. This study employed School Action Research (PTS). The results indicate that applying the demonstration method increased teachers’ teaching creativity. Teacher acceptance of the method improved, and teaching creativity aspects increased from 59.0% in Cycle I to 73.8% in Cycle II.

Abstract

This article describes the implementation of teachers’ competence in designing authentic assessments for active learning and identifies the inhibiting factors that affect teachers in designing these assessments for natural science learning subjects. The research employed a descriptive method with science teachers at SMPN 2 Pontianak as the subjects. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires, and lesson plans designed by the teachers were analyzed. The interview guides and lesson plan review instruments were validated beforehand using the Gregory test. The results indicate that science teachers’ competence in designing authentic assessments was still inadequate across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. This was primarily due to the misalignment of basic competencies with assessment indicators and the fact that most teachers did not design assessment rubrics. Additional obstacles included managing simultaneous assessment activities with large class sizes, limiting teachers’ ability to fully implement authentic assessments. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to enhance their skills in designing assessment instruments, implementing authentic assessments, and managing learning time effectively.

Abstract

Covid-19, which has been declared a pandemic, has had a massive impact on the viability of people on a global scale. Policies are taken by the governments of each country to immediately overcome the spread of the coronavirus. These policies include wearing masks, washing hands, avoiding crowds, and keeping a distance or better known as social distancing frequently. Social distancing as the impact of covid 19 pandemic has certainly switched from a face-to-face learning system to an online learning system. The change in learning patterns was also implemented by IPB International Bali as a replacement for the face-to-face learning system (offline), which was normally implemented before the pandemic. The study in this article is designed to find out the students’ perceptions of the International Tourism and Business Institute (IPBI) regarding online learning during work from home (WFH). The research method used was a descriptive quantitative method by using Chi-Square with SPSS. The technique of data collection was used through the allocation of questionnaires by using Google Form. Respondents of the research involved 297 students from the majors of Diploma 3 and 4 IPBI. The results of the study indicated that LMS provided benefits in online learning in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
