Abstract

The character of reading enthusiasm is one of the fundamental aspects that needs to be developed from the elementary school level as a foundation for lifelong learning. However, the low reading interest of elementary school students remains a problem faced by the education sector in Indonesia. This condition has an impact on students’ low literacy skills, particularly in understanding texts, processing information, and developing critical thinking abilities. The lack of reading habits from an early age also causes students to be passive in the learning process and experience difficulties in understanding various subjects. In addition, the limited availability of literacy-supporting facilities in schools, such as the lack of interesting reading materials and less literate learning environments, further exacerbates students’ low reading interest. Therefore, strategic and sustainable efforts from schools are needed to foster a reading culture as an integral part of the educational process in elementary schools. This study aims to describe the role of reading corners as a medium for shaping the character of reading enthusiasm among elementary school students. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving teachers and elementary school students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the presence of well-managed reading corners, equipped with a variety of reading materials and supported by the active role of teachers, can increase students’ reading frequency and interest. Furthermore, reading corners contribute to the development of independent reading habits and the internalization of character values such as discipline, responsibility, and curiosity. Therefore, reading corners can be considered an effective literacy medium in supporting the formation of reading enthusiasm character among elementary school students.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research aimed to analyze the mathematical problem-solving abilities of 32 students in class IX A of SMP Negeri 2 Galesong Selatan, specifically when solving System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) word problems. The evaluation framework was based on Polya's four steps (understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back). Through tests and interviews, students were categorized into three groups: students with high ability successfully completed all four Polya steps accurately; students with moderate ability typically managed to complete only three steps and showed weakness in the crucial looking back stage; and students with low ability often only managed to understand the problem or entirely failed to formulate a solution plan. The analysis ultimately revealed a significant weakness in students' capabilities at the planning, execution, and especially the looking back stages. Therefore, the study recommends that these abilities be improved through regular practice with non-routine problems that specifically emphasize the systematic application of Polya's steps.

Abstract

Coronary heart disease remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Cardiac catheterization is a commonly performed diagnostic and therapeutic procedure for patients with this condition. However, patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization often experience anxiety, which may affect vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate, thereby increasing the risk of procedural complications. Guided imagery is a non-pharmacological nursing intervention that can reduce anxiety and stabilize vital signs through activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation. This literature review aims to analyze the effectiveness of guided imagery therapy in reducing anxiety and stabilizing vital signs in patients undergoing pre-cardiac catheterization, based on evidence-based practice from studies published within the last seven years. A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Indonesian journal repositories. Keywords included guided imagery, anxiety, cardiac catheterization, and vital signs. Inclusion criteria were articles published between 2017 and 2025, written in English or Indonesian, and focusing on guided imagery interventions in cardiovascular patients or anxiety-related conditions. A total of 15 articles were reviewed, consisting of 10 national and 5 international journals. All studies demonstrated that guided imagery therapy significantly reduced anxiety levels (p<0.05) and improved vital sign stability. Anxiety reduction ranged from 25% to 40%, with significant improvements in systolic blood pressure (10–15 mmHg), heart rate (8–12 bpm), and respiratory rate (3–5 breaths per minute). Guided imagery therapy is an effective, safe, easy-to-implement, and cost-effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention for reducing anxiety and stabilizing vital signs in patients prior to cardiac catheterization. Its implementation may enhance the quality of care and reduce procedural complications.

Abstract

Miller, describes three basic principles of holistic education: connectedness, inclusion, and balance. Connectedness refers to a shift from a fragmented approach to curriculum to one that seeks to facilitate connections at every level of learning. Some of these connections include integrating analytical and intuitive thinking, connecting the body and mind, integrating subjects, connecting to the community, providing a link to the earth, and connecting to the soul and spirit. The theory of "The Courage to Teach" is a concept developed by Parker J. Palmer, an American author, educator, and activist, which emphasizes that effective teaching is rooted in the teacher's personal identity, self-integrity, and ability to be open to new possibilities. The "Whole Child Approach" theory is an educational philosophy that focuses on the holistic development of children, encompassing aspects such as physical health, safety, engagement in learning, emotional support, and cognitive and social challenges, rather than solely focusing on academic achievement. Authentic character-based assessment is the assessment of students' character development through observation and measurement of actual performance in learning activities relevant to everyday life.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is currently in an alarming condition; national data indicate that approximately one in three Indonesian adolescents (34.9%) experience mental health problems, with significant increases in anxiety and depression cases in the post-pandemic period. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Guidance and Counseling (GC) model at SMPN 43 Bandung using Edwards III Policy Implementation Model as the analytical framework. This research employed a qualitative case study approach with data collected through in-depth interviews and observations. The findings reveal that communication through In-House Training (IHT) ensures shared understanding and alignment between school leaders and implementers, while adequate budgeting and well-facilitated counseling rooms serve as key determinants of success, distinguishing this school from previous studies. The autonomous bureaucratic structure and formal collaboration through the TPPK Team, ESQ Training, Character Building initiatives, and the Homeroom Teacher Program establish an efficient referral system. Furthermore, the empathetic attitude of GC practitioners successfully eliminates the stigma commonly attached to counseling services, leading to a significant increase in students’ help-seeking behavior. However, the study also identifies gaps in the technical competence of GC teachers, particularly the need for enhanced mastery of advanced clinical counseling techniques. The study concludes that the implementation of GC services at SMPN 43 Bandung is highly effective due to the integration of strong managerial commitment and robust systemic support. This success demonstrates that eliminating instrumental barriers directly contributes to creating a healthy and stigma-free school climate. The model has strong potential to serve as a best practice reference for other educational institutions in managing adolescent mental health.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of interactive science instructional materials assisted by Articulate Storyline in improving fourth-grade elementary students’ conceptual understanding. The study employed a Research and Development approach with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental class and a control class. The subjects of the study were fourth-grade elementary school students divided into an experimental class that used interactive instructional materials and a control class that used conventional learning materials. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests administered as pretests and posttests. Data analysis included normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, and N-Gain analysis. The results indicate a significant difference in students’ conceptual understanding between the experimental and control classes. The experimental class showed a higher posttest mean score and a moderate N-Gain value compared to the control class. These findings demonstrate that interactive science instructional materials assisted by Articulate Storyline are effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding. Therefore, such instructional materials can be used as an alternative learning resource to improve science learning outcomes in elementary schools.
