Abstract

Low student learning outcomes are caused by suboptimal assessment practices that are not integrated into the learning process, resulting in a lack of meaningful feedback. This study aims to examine the improvement of student learning outcomes through the implementation of assessment for learning based on gamification in the topic of ecosystem component interactions. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 30 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Surabaya. Data were collected through tests, observations, and questionnaires, and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Wilcoxon test, and N-gain calculation. The results showed that the average pretest score of 52.0 increased to 84.3 in the posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.68 categorized as moderate, and the Wilcoxon test indicated p < 0.001, showing a significant difference. The implementation of learning based on TGT syntax and assessment for learning characteristics was categorized as very good and improved in the second meeting, while student activities showed improvement in motivation, engagement, and response during learning. Student responses were also categorized as very good, ranging from 88.3% to 97.5%. These findings indicate that gamification-based assessment for learning can improve student learning outcomes, engagement, and the quality of the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the compatibility of the "muhadasati" textbook in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers based on the principles of material development proposed by Nasser Abdullah Al-Ghali. The "muhadasati" book, designed for beginners, emphasizes speaking skills using Modern Standard Arabic. This research uses a qualitative approach with content analysis methods, examining the alignment of the book with necessary language aspects such as phonology, grammar, and vocabulary. The findings indicate that although the book meets several criteria proposed by Al-Ghali, such as using Modern Arabic and introducing relevant vocabulary, there are some shortcomings, particularly in the areas of phonology teaching and the absence of a glossary. The study concludes that while the book is effective in practicing speaking skills, several areas need improvement to enhance the quality of Arabic language learning.

Abstract

Management Information Systems (MIS) are a crucial element in supporting decision-making and operational effectiveness of an organization. This study aims to analyze the main components of a Management Information System (MIS), including procedures, brainware, and networks. The research method used is a qualitative approach with literature studies and observations of MIS implementation in various organizations. The results show that structured procedures can improve workflow consistency and process efficiency. Brainware, as users and managers of the system, plays a crucial role in determining the success of MIS implementation, especially in terms of competence and technological adaptation. Meanwhile, the network functions as an infrastructure that supports the smooth exchange of data and information quickly and accurately. These three components are interrelated and must be managed in an integrated manner for MIS to run optimally. This study is expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of integrating MIS components in supporting organizational performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ pronunciation difficulties in English words through tongue twister activities among the eleventh-grade students of SMAS Nasrani 2 Medan. The objectives of this research are to identify the types of pronunciation difficulties experienced by students, determine the English phonemes that are most difficult for them to pronounce, and analyze the patterns of pronunciation difficulties that appear in their pronunciation performance. This research applied a descriptive qualitative research design. The participants of this study were 20 eleventh-grade students of SMAS Nasrani 2 Medan in the academic year 2024/2025. The data were collected through tongue-twister reading tasks, classroom observations, audio recordings, and interviews. The students’ pronunciation performances were transcribed using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and analyzed through data reduction, data display, identification and classification of pronunciation difficulties, and interpretation of the findings. The results of the study show that students experience various pronunciation difficulties in both consonant and vowel sounds. The most frequent consonant difficulties were found in the pronunciation of /ʃ/, /θ/, /v/, /r/ in final position, and /z/. Meanwhile, vowel difficulties occurred in the pronunciation of /ʌ/, /æ/, the diphthong /aɪ/, /u/, and /oʊ/. The analysis also revealed three dominant types of pronunciation difficulties, namely substitution, omission, and reduction or simplification. Among these, substitution was the most frequently occurring error, indicating that students often replaced unfamiliar English sounds with similar sounds from their first language. The findings also indicate that first language interference significantly influenced students’ pronunciation performance. In conclusion, the study reveals that tongue twister activities effectively expose students’ pronunciation difficulties and highlight the English phonemes that are most problematic for learners. These findings provide useful insights for English teachers in designing more effective pronunciation teaching strategies and providing focused pronunciation practice for EFL learners.

Abstract

This article examines Islamic ritual as a multidimensional phenomenon shaped by the interaction between textual, theological, and intuitive approaches. The textual approach situates ritual within a normative framework based on the Qur’an and Hadith as the primary sources of Islamic teachings. The theological approach highlights the metaphysical dimension, divine purpose, and ethical meanings embedded in ritual practices. Meanwhile, the intuitive approach emphasizes inner experience and the spiritual depth of individuals in performing acts of worship. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach and is analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that these three approaches cannot be understood in isolation, but must be synthesized dialectically. By employing the framework of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis, this article argues that Islamic ritual is simultaneously normative in structure, theologically meaningful, and experientially lived in spiritual practice. This integrative approach provides an important contribution to a more comprehensive understanding of Islamic ritual in contemporary studies.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the suboptimal implementation of the value of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) among eighth-grade students at SMP Ar-Rahman, despite the school’s vision and mission emphasizing the importance of togetherness and collaboration. In practice, individualistic attitudes, low participation in group work, and a lack of awareness in engaging in cooperative activities within the school environment are still observed. Social Studies (IPS), particularly in the topic of social interaction, has significant potential as a medium to instill these values; however, its implementation tends to focus more on cognitive aspects and has not yet optimally addressed character development. This study aims to describe the efforts of Social Studies teachers in fostering mutual cooperation through social interaction learning and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in the process. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of the study include Social Studies teachers and eighth-grade students of SMP Ar-Rahman. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that teachers’ efforts to cultivate mutual cooperation are carried out through the implementation of group learning methods, discussions, and collaborative assignments that connect social interaction material with students’ real-life experiences. However, the implementation is not yet fully optimal due to several obstacles, such as low student participation, differences in student characteristics, and individualistic learning habits. Supporting factors include the school’s commitment to the value of mutual cooperation and the teacher’s role as a learning facilitator. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen more contextual, participatory, and reflective learning strategies so that the value of mutual cooperation can be more effectively internalized within students.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has transformed Management Information Systems (MIS) from paper-based manual systems into integrated and sophisticated digital systems. This paper aims to analyze the evolution of MIS from the manual era, computerization, to the internet and digitalization era, as well as to explain its strategic role in modern organizations. This study employs a literature review approach by analyzing various primary and secondary sources related to the development and implementation of MIS. The analysis reveals that MIS has evolved significantly. In the manual era, MIS faced limitations such as human error, slow processes, and high operational costs. Entering the computerization era, MIS transformed into a faster and more accurate system through automation. In the current digital era, MIS is supported by technologies such as big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), enabling real-time information provision, supporting strategic decision-making, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening organizational competitiveness. In modern organizations, MIS serves as a strategic partner for management in the functions of planning, controlling, decision-making, and efficiency enhancement. However, MIS implementation still faces challenges such as investment costs, system integration, and human resource readiness. Therefore, organizations need to design adaptive and sustainable MIS development strategies.
