Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited use of local wisdom as a contextual learning resource in junior high school science. The aims of this study are to examine the ethnoscience concepts embedded in the Gebug Ende Seraya tradition in Patas Village, Gerokgak District, and to analyze their relevance to junior high school science materials. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnoscience approach. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, including Gebug Ende performers, community leaders, and science teachers at SMP Negeri 5 Gerokgak. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires, and were analyzed descriptively to identify the tools, stages of implementation, and scientific concepts contained in the tradition. The results show that the main tools used in the Gebug Ende Seraya tradition are the penyalin (a rattan striking stick) and the ende (a shield). The implementation stages include the matur piuning ritual, preparation of tools and costumes, and the performance led by a saye (referee). The ethnoscience study reveals local knowledge that can be reconstructed into scientific concepts, such as vibrations and waves, ecology, classification of living organisms, measurement, solid pressure, temperature and heat, as well as force and motion. The findings indicate that the most dominant concepts are related to the elements of force, motion, and energy, supported by the human organ system element in the junior high school science learning outcomes (Phase D). Therefore, this tradition has strong potential to be integrated as a contextual and meaningful science learning resource.

Abstract

This study examines the role of parents in the language acquisition of a three-year-old child as a crucial phase in cognitive and communicative development. The research aims to analyze the forms of parental involvement and their impact on children’s language acquisition within the family environment. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects consist of two parents who have a three-year-old child. Data were collected through in-depth interviews focusing on communication patterns, language stimulation, parental responses to children’s utterances, language modeling, and the emotional environment within the family. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that parental roles are manifested through intensive and two-way communication, consistent and contextual language stimulation, positive and non-judgmental responses, and appropriate language modeling. A supportive emotional environment further strengthens the child’s language acquisition process. The impact of these roles is reflected in the child’s expanded and contextual vocabulary, the ability to construct simple yet structured sentences, the capacity to understand complex instructions, and increased confidence in communication. The involvement of both parents also provides varied linguistic input that enriches the child’s language experience. These findings highlight that consistent interaction, quality language stimulation, and emotional support within the family are key factors in successful early childhood language acquisition. Future research is recommended to involve a larger number of participants and consider broader socio-cultural factors.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the influence of emotional intelligence (EI) on students' mathematical communication skills in solving contextual problems through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data were collected from Google Scholar, SINTA, and Scopus databases, covering 15 articles published between 2022–2026 that met the inclusion criteria. The analysis shows that all 15 studies consistently report a positive and significant influence of EI on mathematical communication skills, with correlation coefficients ranging from r = 0.49 to 0.68 and determination coefficients of R² = 0.38–0.46. Among the five EI indicators (Goleman, 1995), emotion management (self-management) is the most dominant factor (87% of studies), followed by self-motivation (80%), self-awareness (67%), empathy (60%), and social skills (53%). These findings confirm that the affective dimension, especially EI, plays an important role in the quality of students' mathematical communication in contextual problem solving.
