Abstract

This study describes the implementation of the Parents Reading Books Movement and its role in supporting the language development of children aged five to six years at Rumah Ilmu Bilingual Islamic Kindergarten, Bekasi. A qualitative case-study design was employed. Participants were selected purposively and consisted of the school principal, one Group B teacher, ten parents, and ten children. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the program was implemented through planning, home-based reading activities, school monitoring, and periodic evaluation. Parents generally read for 10–20 minutes per session during a two-week period each month and involved children in discussing characters, story sequences, and messages. Teachers and parents reported observable development in listening, speaking confidence, vocabulary use, answering questions, and retelling stories. The program was supported by school commitment, age-appropriate books, parent–teacher cooperation, children’s enthusiasm, and routine monitoring. Its implementation was constrained by parents’ work schedules, differences in reading techniques, limited weekday interaction, and fluctuating child interest. The movement therefore functioned as a practical home–school literacy program, although the findings should be interpreted within the limits of a single qualitative case without standardized pre- and post-measurement.

Abstract

This study investigated the EFL speaking needs of Grade 7 students at SMPN 3 Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia, using Hutchinson and Waters’ (1987) tripartite needs analysis framework. A mixed-method design was employed, combining a 25-items Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 31 students with a semi-structured interview conducted with their English teacher. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data was analyzed thematically following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six-phase procedure. The findings revealed that curricular necessities under Kurikulum Merdeka prioritized communicative fluency and meaning-focused oral production. The most critical lack was students’ inability to speak without script (M = 2,47), compounded by performance anxiety related to fear of making mistakes (M = 3,43). Students’ highest-ranked instructional wants were teacher modeling (M = 4,13) and game-based activities (M = 4,03), both of which aligned positively with identified curricular necessities. These findings suggest that students’ wants functions as targeted responses to specific lacks, serving as a conceptual bridge towards meeting curricular necessities. Findings are expected to inform a speaking syllabus design that is curriculum-complaint, learner-responsive, and culturally grounded

Abstract

This study analyzes the actualization of parking attendants' integrity characters in implementing Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2010 concerning Public Roadside Parking Service Retribution in the Tugu Keris Siginjai Area, Kotabaru, Jambi City, alongside the field obstacles encountered. The primary issue centers on the critical role of integrity in preventing Local Revenue (PAD) leakage and optimizing public service. This qualitative study utilizes a descriptive research design. Ten informants were selected via purposive sampling, consisting of four parking attendants as primary informants, five parking service users as key informants, and one representative from the Jambi City Transportation Agency as an additional informant. Data were gathered through passive participant observation, structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model comprising data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the actualization of parking attendants' integrity characters has been inconsistent, revealing a gap between normative regulations and moral action. While attendants understand official tariffs and strictly wear official vests, accountability in automatically distributing parking tickets remains very low. Violations persist as tariff inflation (Rp3,000 for motorcycles and Rp5,000–Rp10,000 for cars) occurs during peak hours, accompanied by poor vehicle management causing traffic and emotional control issues. The primary obstacles include external sociological challenges from local thugs (premanism), low financial welfare due to the absence of government salaries, and visitors paying below standard rates. Conversely, management is supported by cross-sectoral oversight from the Transportation Agency, the Saber Pungli Team, and periodic ticket audits.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a journal book based on the Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children as a medium for strengthening early childhood character at Rumah Ilmu Bilingual Islamic Kindergarten. The study employed a research and development approach using the ADDIE model, which comprised analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, validation sheets, and child-habituation observation sheets. The product was reviewed by a subject-matter expert, a media expert, and an instrument expert, followed by small-group and large-group trials involving children aged five to six years. The subject-matter and media validations each obtained 97.5%, while the instrument validation obtained 96.4%; all were categorized as highly valid. The small-group trial produced an average score of 75.0%, and the large-group trial produced an average score of 94.75%, indicating that the product could be used well after revisions and repeated assistance. The journal integrates the habits of waking up early, worshipping, exercising, eating healthy and nutritious food, enjoying learning, participating in the community, and going to bed early through child-friendly illustrations and daily monitoring activities. The findings indicate that the journal book is highly feasible as a practical medium for supporting consistent character habituation through cooperation between teachers and parents.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has accelerated the digitalization of government administration, including the management of village officials' attendance. Conventional attendance systems, such as manual records and fingerprint-based systems, still have limitations, including inefficient data recapitulation and the inability to verify users' locations during attendance. This study aims to design and develop a web-based attendance system for village officials by utilizing Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and applying the Waterfall development method. The proposed system is capable of validating users' locations during attendance, managing attendance data, and generating integrated attendance reports. The results indicate that the system improves the accuracy of attendance recording, simplifies the monitoring process, and enhances the effectiveness of village administrative management.

Abstract

This research was undertaken in response to the unsatisfactory learning attainment of fourth-grade pupils in Integrated Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) at SDN 18 Air Tawar Selatan, Padang City. Preliminary classroom observations and interviews with the classroom teacher revealed limited student participation, collaboration, critical reasoning, and the application of concepts in authentic situations. These findings highlighted the need for a more interactive instructional approach capable of fostering richer and more meaningful learning experiences. Accordingly, this study examined the effectiveness of integrating the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach with the Genially platform to enhance pupils' learning attainment in IPAS. A mixed-methods Classroom Action Research design was employed. The participants consisted of one classroom teacher and 20 fourth-grade pupils. The intervention was implemented through two sequential action cycles, comprising two instructional meetings in Cycle I and one meeting in Cycle II. Each cycle followed four successive phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Research data were collected through learning outcome assessments, classroom observations, interviews, attitude and skills assessments, and documentation. Qualitative findings were examined using descriptive analysis, whereas quantitative data were analyzed through percentage calculations. The findings revealed progressive improvement in every assessed component. The quality of the Deep Learning Lesson Plan (RPPM) increased from 90% (Good) in Cycle I to 95% (Very Good) in Cycle II. Classroom implementation also improved, with teacher and pupil activities rising from 85.6% to 96.4%. Moreover, the average learning attainment increased from 79.7% (Fair) to 94.4% (Very Good). Overall, the findings suggest that integrating the Problem-Based Learning approach with the Genially platform effectively enhanced pupils' learning attainment in IPAS among fourth-grade learners at SDN 18 Air Tawar Selatan, Padang City.

Abstract

Art education in elementary schools plays an important role in fostering students’ creativity, self-expression, and imagination. However, classroom practices are of-ten oriented toward final products and imitation, limiting students’ opportunities to explore and develop their own ideas. This study aims to examine the exploration of students’ imagination through free drawing activities in elementary school art edu-cation based on a synthesis of previous research findings. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a literature review method. Data were col-lected from scientific articles indexed in Google Scholar and national journals based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria and were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that free drawing activities provide students with opportunities to develop ideas, enhance creativity, strengthen self-expression, and improve creative thinking skills, resulting in more original artwork. Furthermore, the effectiveness of free drawing is influenced by the teacher’s role as a facilitator, a supportive learning environment, and the use of appropriate instructional media and teaching methods. In conclusion, free drawing is an effective instructional strategy for fostering students’ imagination and creativity through active, student-centered learning experiences in elementary school art education.

Abstract

Speaking difficulties remain one of the major challenges faced by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, particularly during communicative activities such as role play that require spontaneous interaction. This study aimed to explore the factors shaping students’ speaking difficulties during role play activities in an Indonesian senior high school EFL classroom. A qualitative approach using a basic qualitative study design was employed. Seven eleventh-grade students were selected through criterion-based purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant classroom observations and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s (2022) thematic analysis. The findings revealed three major factors shaping students’ speaking difficulties during role play activities: linguistic factors, including limited vocabulary, grammatical difficulties, and pronunciation problems; psychological factors, including nervousness, fear of making mistakes, and lack of confidence; and environmental factors, including audience behavior, peer reactions, peer support, and limited opportunities to practice English. The findings suggest that speaking difficulties are influenced by linguistic, psychological, and environmental factors. Therefore, communicative speaking activities should be designed to support students’ linguistic competence, psychological readiness, and supportive classroom environments.
