Abstract

In today's fiercely competitive education landscape, educational organizations must deeply understand their customers—be it students, parents, or the wider community—as they are the primary determinants of an institution's sustainability and growth. Total Quality Management (TQM) emerges as a holistic approach to ensure service quality not only meets but exceeds customer expectations, as outlined in the books Total Quality Management in Education: Concepts and Implementation (National Library of RI, 2019) and Total Quality Management for Educational Organizations (Kanisius Media, 2024). Customer satisfaction arises from comparing initial expectations with actual product or service performance, influenced by product quality itself, friendly and prompt service, emotional touches like feeling valued, reasonable pricing, and minimal additional costs—as affirmed by Kotler & Armstrong (1999) in marketing contexts and Sumarwan (2003) on satisfaction determinants.Merely grasping the concepts isn't enough; educational institutions need a systematic process to uncover customer expectations: from direct surveys, in-depth interviews, behavioral observations, to data analysis via social media, as recommended by Sugiyono (2017) in Business Research Methods and Tjiptono (2019) in Marketing Strategy. The SERVQUAL model by Parasuraman et al. (1988) serves as a key tool to measure gaps between expectations and perceptions, supplemented by modern indicators like Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) or Net Promoter Score (NPS) for ongoing evaluation. This qualitative library research, drawing from literature such as Quality Management for Organizational Excellence by Goetsch & Davis (2014) and local journals on TQM in Islamic education, demonstrates that TQM is not just theory but a practical key to building customer loyalty and institutional competitiveness amid evolving societal needs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparative education financing systems between the colonial era and the era of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), as well as their implications for equity in educational access. The study employs a qualitative approach with a historical-comparative design through library research and document analysis of historical archives, education policies, and national and international education statistics. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the education financing system during the colonial era was limited, exclusive, and discriminatory, resulting in low educational participation rates among indigenous populations, which remained below 10%. In contrast, during the NKRI era, the education financing system has undergone a significant transformation toward a more inclusive approach, marked by the policy of allocating at least 20% of the national budget (APBN) to education and the implementation of financing programs such as the School Operational Assistance (BOS) and the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP). These initiatives have contributed to a substantial increase in educational access, reaching over 80%. Disparities in educational access persist, particularly between urban and rural areas as well as between developed and underdeveloped regions. These findings suggest that increased education financing has not been fully accompanied by equitable distribution based on needs. The study highlights that while education financing plays a crucial role in expanding access, its effectiveness depends on the adoption of distributive justice principles in resource allocation.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the phenomenon of inner psychological conflict reflected in artistic works, particularly song lyrics as a medium of expression. The song Bi Ṣarāḥa by Abeer Nehme is selected due to its representation of the tension between instinctual drives and moral consciousness. This research aims to identify the representations of id, ego, and superego, and to analyze the dynamics of their interaction within the lyrics. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literary psychology approach based on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The data, in the form of song lyrics, are analyzed through close reading, classification, and symbolic interpretation. The findings reveal a complex interplay between the id as instinctual desire, the superego as moral control, and the ego as mediator. Their conflict constructs an inner reflection that illustrates the individual’s effort to achieve psychological balance.

Abstract

This research was conducted to produce a QR Code-based Pop-Up Book as a learning medium on the topic of the Indonesian National Struggle, intended for fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Wates. Beyond product development, the study also sought to determine the level of validity and practicality of the resulting medium. A Research and Development (R&D) approach following the ADDIE model was employed. Participants consisted of fifth-grade students and teachers at SDN 1 Wates, Tulungagung Regency. Data were gathered using expert validation sheets along with response questionnaires distributed to both students and teachers. The findings revealed that the developed medium obtained validity scores of 95.35% from media experts, 89.2% from material experts, and 97% from language experts, with all three falling into the "highly valid" category. In terms of practicality, student responses reached 88.8% during the small-scale trial and rose to 91.7% in the field trial, while teacher responses recorded a perfect score of 100%, reflecting a very high level of practicality. These results indicate that the QR Code-assisted Pop-Up Book can be considered both valid and practical, making it suitable for use as a supplementary instructional medium for fifth-grade students.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the essential competencies that need to be developed among elementary school students, particularly in mathematics learning, which requires the ability to analyze and solve problems. Observation results indicated that the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students remained low because the learning process was teacher-centered and insufficiently engaged students in solving real-world problems. This study aimed to improve students’ critical thinking skills by implementing a contextual Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were fifth-grade elementary school students. The findings revealed that implementing contextual Problem-Based Learning effectively improved students’ critical thinking skills. The percentage of students achieving learning mastery increased from 43.3% in Cycle I to 86.7% in Cycle II, representing an improvement of 43.4 percentage points. This improvement was supported by the use of more contextual problems, more structured guidance for discussion, and more effective teacher facilitation throughout the learning process. In addition, students demonstrated positive changes in discussion participation, problem analysis skills, and the ability to provide logical reasoning. Therefore, contextual Problem-Based Learning can serve as an effective instructional alternative for improving elementary school students’ critical thinking skills in mathematics learning. Kata kunci: Problem Based Learning (PBL), masalah kontekstual, kemampuan berpikir kritis
