Abstract

Critical thinking skills are among the 21st-century competencies that need to be developed in physics education. However, students' critical thinking skills remain low because instruction tends to be teacher-centered and fails to actively involve students in problem-solving. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, supported by Renewable Energy e-Student Worksheets (e-LKM), in enhancing the critical thinking skills of high school students. A quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design was employed. The study subjects consisted of two experimental classes and one conventional class at SMA Hang Tuah 2 Sidoarjo. Data were collected via pre-test and post-test assessing critical thinking skills and subsequently analyzed using N-gain, paired t-tests, and independent t-tests. The results showed that the average N-gain was 0.74 for Experimental Class 1 and 0.73 for Experimental Class 2 (both in the high category), whereas the conventional class scored 0.39 (in the medium category). Paired t-test results indicated a significant improvement in critical thinking skills across all classes (p < 0.05). Furthermore, independent t-test results revealed that the improvement in critical thinking skills in the experimental classes was significantly higher than in the conventional class (p < 0.05), while no significant difference was found between the two experimental classes (p > 0.05). Thus, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Renewable Energy e-Student Worksheets proved effective in enhancing students' critical thinking skills regarding the topic of Renewable Energy.

Abstract

This study was motivated by various forms of student indiscipline, including tardiness, noncompliance with school regulations, and delays in completing assignments. Teachers' transactional leadership is presumed to influence students' disciplinary behavior through the consistent implementation of classroom rules, supervision, and reinforcement strategies. This study aimed to determine the level of teachers' transactional leadership, the level of students' discipline, and the effect of teachers' transactional leadership on the discipline of fifth-grade students at UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2. The study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of 27 fifth-grade students, all of whom were selected as the sample using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and documentation and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that teachers' transactional leadership at UPTD SD Inpres Kuanino 2 was categorized as good, with a mean score of 53.62. The data met the assumptions of normality and linearity, with Shapiro–Wilk significance values of 0.799 and 0.255 for the two variables and a Deviation from Linearity significance value of 0.620. Simple linear regression analysis revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that teachers' transactional leadership has a positive and significant effect on student discipline. The regression coefficient was 0.815, and the coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.390, indicating that teachers' transactional leadership contributed 39% to student discipline, while the remaining 61% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study.

Abstract

In the era of global disruption and uncertain economic dynamics, fostering an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age is no longer just an option, but a strategic urgency. Early childhood education plays a crucial role as the foundation for character and mindset formation. "Market Day" activities represent one of the efforts to build and nurture this entrepreneurial spirit in children from the very beginning. Through Market Day, children engage in a direct learning process, implementing the concept of "Learning by Doing." Consequently, they can experience firsthand the entire process required in entrepreneurial activities. Cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age is vital in preparing a future generation that is independent, creative, and adaptive.

Abstract

Elementary mathematics learning still faces difficulties in developing students’ critical thinking because abstract concepts are often presented through routine explanations and exercises. This study examined the use of Small Group Discussion supported by Miniature Math, a three-dimensional city model designed to make cubes and cuboids observable and measurable. A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control-group design involved 66 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Kalongan, consisting of 32 students in the experimental class and 34 students in the control class. Participants were selected purposively. Data were collected through eight validated essay items, classroom-observation sheets, student-response questionnaires, and documentation. The test instrument showed high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = .82). Data were analyzed using Shapiro–Wilk, Levene’s test, an Independent-Samples t Test, descriptive paired statistics, and simple linear regression. The posttest comparison showed a significant difference between the two classes, t(64) = -4.764, p < .001. The experimental-class mean increased from 57.38 to 83.44, while implementation and student-response scores reached 73.17% and 77.73%. The regression output produced R² = .093 and p = .090, indicating a limited and statistically nonsignificant linear contribution that should be interpreted cautiously. The findings support the use of concrete media in structured small-group discussion to strengthen critical-thinking activities, while also emphasizing the need for longer interventions, broader samples, and more precise predictor measurement.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of cooperative group play activities on the social-emotional development of Group B children at TK Doremi Rembiga. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants consisted of 15 Group B children selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using an observation instrument comprising 30 indicators of social-emotional development. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential analysis through the Paired Sample t-Test at a 5% significance level. The results indicated that the mean score of children's social-emotional development increased from 88.60 in the pretest to 92.00 in the posttest. The percentage of social-emotional development also increased from 73.83% to 76.67%. Furthermore, the hypothesis testing showed that the calculated t-value (4.328) was higher than the t-table value (2.145), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings demonstrate that cooperative group play activities have a significant positive effect on children's social-emotional development. Cooperative play provides opportunities for children to cooperate, communicate, share, develop empathy, and regulate their emotions through interaction with peers. Therefore, cooperative group play can be considered an effective learning strategy to enhance the social-emotional development of early childhood.

Abstract

The Special Sports Class program is designed to facilitate students with interest and talent in sports so that they can develop optimally. However, a high level of learning interest does not necessarily correspond to students’ physical fitness. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between learning interest and physical fitness among students enrolled in the special sports class program at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. This quantitative study employed a correlational design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and consisted of 30 volleyball-specialized students. Learning interest was measured using a questionnaire, while physical fitness was assessed using the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TesKebugaran Pelajar Nusantara/TKPN). The Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that learning interest scores were normally distributed (p = 0.131), whereas physical fitness scores were not normally distributed (p < 0.001). Therefore, the relationship between variables was analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation. The results showed a Spearman correlation coefficient of rho = 0.074 with a significance value of p = 0.699. These findings indicate that there is no significant relationship between learning interest and physical fitness among special sports class students. Thus, improving students’ physical fitness requires more than enhancing learning interest; it should be supported by structured physical conditioning, nutritional status monitoring, sedentary behavior control, and continuous healthy lifestyle development.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a key factor in determining the quality of learning in early childhood education and may be influenced by teachers’ years of service. This study aimed to examine differences in teacher performance based on years of service among Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teachers in Cluster 3, Selaparang District. A quantitative research design with a survey approach was employed. The study involved 35 teachers from seven PAUD institutions, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 30 validated statement items and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, followed by a One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The descriptive findings indicated that teachers with 16–20 years of service obtained the highest mean performance score, while those with 1–5 years of service had the lowest mean score. However, the One-Way ANOVA results showed no statistically significant difference in teacher performance among the different years-of-service groups (F = 1.539; p = 0.216 > 0.05). These findings suggest that years of service do not significantly influence teacher performance among PAUD teachers in Cluster 3, Selaparang District. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was accepted, while the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was rejected. This study implies that factors other than years of service may play a more substantial role in determining teacher performance and should be considered in future research and professional development programs.
