Abstract

Stunting remains one of the major public health issues that requires effective communication between healthcare workers and the community. Ngulungkulon Village, Trenggalek Regency, is one of the villages that has successfully reduced stunting rates through direct counseling as an implementation of development communication. This study aims to analyze the development communication strategies implemented by healthcare workers through direct counseling in stunting education in Ngulungkulon Village, Trenggalek Regency. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants consisted of healthcare workers, health cadres, and community members involved in counseling activities. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study adopted Jan Servaes' participatory development communication theory and Onong Uchjana Effendy's communication strategy theory, which emphasizes audience identification, message formulation, media selection, and the role of communicators. The findings are expected to provide a comprehensive description of the implementation of development communication strategies in stunting education through direct counseling and indicate that communication tailored to community characteristics, supported by appropriate communication media, and implemented through a participatory approach can improve public understanding and awareness of stunting prevention. This study is expected to serve as a reference for village governments, healthcare workers, and other stakeholders in developing more effective health communication strategies.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low conceptual understanding and curiosity during the learning process, highlighting the need for a learning model capable of increasing student activity and engagement in knowledge construction. This study aims to determine the differences in students’ conceptual understanding and curiosity between classes using the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model aided by a Scrapbook medium and classes using conventional learning, as well as to determine the effect of this model on students’ conceptual understanding and curiosity. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 53 students, comprising 28 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class. Data were collected using a conceptual understanding test and a curiosity questionnaire. The data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test and simple linear regression. The results showed that the average posttest score for conceptual understanding in the experimental class was 84.93, higher than that of the control class, which scored an average of 79.16. Furthermore, the statistical analysis revealed that the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model supported by the Scrapbook media had a positive and significant effect on students’ conceptual understanding and curiosity, with a significance level of < 0.05; thus, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Thus, there is a difference and an effect of using the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model supported by the Scrapbook medium on students’ conceptual understanding and curiosity in elementary school.

Abstract

The menstrual cycle is a physiological factor that often affects the physical, psychological, and motor performance of female athletes during training. This study aims to compare the physical performance and endurance of female soccer athletes during each menstrual cycle (day 1 to day 6). This is a quantitative study using a descriptive comparative method. The sample consisted of 15 athletes from the Sukabumi Regency Women's Soccer Team, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection instrument used a structured observation sheet based on a Likert scale (1–4), which measured physical, psychological, and training performance indicators during the six days of menstruation. Data analysis was conducted using quantitative descriptive analysis to determine trends in the development of average daily scores. The results showed a significant decline in performance at the beginning of menstruation. Day 2 of menstruation was the lowest point for athletes, with an overall average score of 2.64, driven by high levels of abdominal pain/cramps (2.27) and decreased mood (2.33). The deepest decline in motor performance occurred in speed and reaction time on day 3, with the lowest score being 1.80. Meanwhile, endurance parameters experienced a drastic decline on day 2 (2.27) and only returned to optimal levels on day 6 (3.75). Overall, the athletes' physical and psychological performance gradually recovered and reached peak condition on day 6 with an average total of 3.83. The conclusion of this study is that the menstrual cycle negatively affects the endurance and training performance of female athletes, especially on days 1 to 3, so adaptive training program adjustments are needed by coaches.

Abstract

The low capability of primary students in solving mathematical story problems stems from conventional instruction that fails to foster systematic reasoning. This quantitative study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing story problem-solving skills concerning data presentation materials structured around Polya’s framework. Employing a pre-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest design), the study involved a sample of 25 third-grade students at SDIT Bina Madina during the 2025/2026 academic year, selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected using a 5-item essay test validated empirically and demonstrating high internal consistency reliability (). The Shapiro-Wilk test satisfied the assumption of normality for both pretest () and posttest () scores. Inferential analysis using a paired-sample t-test revealed a statistically significant increase in mean scores from 50.08 () to 84.16 (), yielding (). The effect size calculation indicated a Cohen’s d of 2.806 (classified as a very large effect), supported by a mean Normalized Gain (N-Gain) score of 0.682 or 68.20% (moderately effective category). These findings provide empirical proof that PBL intervention effectively escalates elementary students' competencies in understanding, planning, executing, and evaluating mathematical story problem solutions.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 07 Koto Balingka, West Pasaman Regency. Preliminary data showed that only 10 of 19 students (52.6%) achieved the Learning Achievement Criteria (KKTP) of 75, while 9 students (47.3%) had not reached mastery. This condition was caused by the suboptimal use of learning media, teacher-centered instruction, and low student involvement in the learning process. This study aimed to describe the improvement of IPAS learning outcomes through the use of Pop-Up Book media combined with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, covering lesson planning, implementation, and student learning outcomes. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles; Cycle I consisted of two meetings (June 11 and 15, 2026) and Cycle II consisted of one meeting (June 18, 2026). The subjects were 19 fifth-grade students in the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through interviews, observation, tests, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed: (1) lesson planning was developed as a teaching module aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum; (2) learning implementation improved, shown by average teacher activity from 76.78% (Good) in Cycle I to 89.28% (Very Good) in Cycle II; and (3) student learning outcomes improved in knowledge, attitude, and skill aspects, with the average knowledge score rising from 77.37 (classical mastery 73.65%) in Cycle I to 82.10 (classical mastery 84.2%) in Cycle II. Thus, the use of Pop-Up Book media through the Problem Based Learning model can improve the IPAS learning outcomes of fifth-grade students.

Abstract

Along with the development of the times, the world has produced many innovations in the field of digital technology, one of which is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has already been utilized by students, particularly those at SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi. This research aims to discuss three research focuses, namely the reading interest of students at SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi; the frequency of AI usage in the learning process; and students' perspectives on AI. This study uses a descriptive research type with a qualitative approach. The subjects of the research are students of SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi, and the research objects are students' reading interests and the frequency of AI usage. The data sources in this study consist of primary data obtained directly from 31 students of SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi. The data collection technique in this research was conducted through the distribution of online questionnaires to the students of SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi via WhatsApp chat groups. The research results indicate that the reading interest of students at SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi is at a fairly good level, although it has not yet shown a strong tendency. In addition, the majority of respondents stated that they utilize AI to search for information related to their study materials. Lastly, regarding students' perspectives on AI, it was found that AI is seen as a useful learning aid, but it has not entirely replaced the role of reading in obtaining valid and in-depth information. Based on the overall findings, AI influences the way students access and process information more than it reduces reading interest, and therefore cannot be regarded as the main cause of low reading interest among students. It is hoped that strengthening the literacy culture should be balanced with digital literacy so that the use of AI can support, rather than replace, reading habits.

Abstract

Language and culture are inseparable aspects of communication, particularly in cultural tourism, where tour guides function as mediators between local communities and international visitors. This study aims to investigate how linguaculture is represented by tour guides in Sade Village, Central Lombok, during their interactions with foreign tourists in English. A qualitative descriptive design was employed. The primary data consisted of English conversations between tour guides and tourists, collected through observation, audio recordings, and field notes. The data were analyzed using the linguaculture framework with translational and ethnographic approaches to identify the representation of local vocabulary and local knowledge. The research finds that the linguacultural manifestations of the tour guides in Sade Village are realized in two aspects. First, there is the incorporation of Sasak vocabulary into English-language interactions. Second, the transfer of material and social local knowledge through “expert talk” strategies to manage gaps in understanding (rich points). With this approach, the tour guides can successfully convey the Sasak philosophical values and cultural identity and turn them into meaningful and educational stories for international tourists.
