Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Wordwal digital learning media on the symbolic thinking ability of children aged 5-6 years at TK Pertiwi, Tondongkura Village, Tondong Tallasa Subdistrict, Pangkajene Islands Regency. Symbolic thinking, a core component of early cognitive development, refers to children's ability to recognize and use numerical and alphabetical symbols meaningfully. Preliminary observation indicated that most children in this kindergarten still had difficulty distinguishing number symbols, recognizing letters, and using symbols for counting, and quickly lost interest in monotonous learning methods. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design was employed. Thirty children aged 5-6 years were selected through purposive sampling and divided into an experimental group (n = 15), which received six treatment sessions using the Wordwal Match Up game, and a control group (n = 15), which received conventional activities using blocks and worksheets. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test in SPSS. The experimental group's mean score increased from 13.00 (pre-test) to 20.67 (post-test), with a Wilcoxon test result of Z = -3.457 and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 (p < 0.05), while the control group's mean score increased only slightly, from 12.13 to 13.73. These findings indicate that Wordwal-based digital learning media has a significant effect on improving young children's symbolic thinking ability and can be considered an engaging alternative learning tool for early childhood educators

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of eco-printing batik activities on the fine motor skills of students with physical disabilities (students with orthopedic impairments) at a Special School (SLB). The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The research subjects consisted of five students with physical disabilities, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through observation using a validated fine motor skills assessment instrument. The assessment covered several aspects, including hand-eye coordination, finger strength and flexibility, manipulative skills, concentration and accuracy, sensorimotor stimulation, independence, motivation and self-confidence, and participation in educational therapeutic activities. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that the mean pre-test score was 56.60, which increased to 94.60 on the post-test. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.042 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that eco-printing batik activities have a significant positive effect on improving the fine motor skills of students with physical disabilities at a Special School (SLB). These activities can be considered an effective alternative instructional approach for enhancing students' fine motor development through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

Abstract

The choice of the research location at SMA Negeri 6 Palembang was based on the results of an interview with the Biology MGMP of Palembang City on August 8, 2025, which recommended the school because it has already implemented HOTS questions and is more easily accessible compared to other schools. Furthermore, an initial observation on September 17, 2025, confirmed that SMA Negeri 6 Palembang had applied HOTS questions, although the implementation was not yet optimal since most questions were still at cognitive levels C1–C3. This study aims to develop a multiple-choice Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) question instrument using a Norm-Referenced Assessment (NRA) system on movement system material at SMA Negeri 6 Palembang, as well as to determine its validity and effectiveness. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with a 4D development model (define, design, develop, disseminate), but was limited only to the development stage (develop). The research subjects consisted of 36 students from class XI.1, with sampling done using purposive sampling. The instrument developed was a multiple-choice test based on HOTS, covering the cognitive domains of analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6). Data collection was done through expert validation, instrument trials, and item analysis, which included tests for validity, reliability, difficulty level, discriminating power, and distractor effectiveness. The study results showed that the developed HOTS question instrument has a good level of validity based on expert evaluation, and meets the feasibility criteria in terms of reliability, difficulty, discriminating power, and distractor effectiveness. In addition, implementing the norm-referenced assessment system (PAN) can provide an idea of students' relative abilities within their group.

Abstract

Indonesia's shift from the 2013 Curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum has repositioned deep learning, anchored on mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning, as the pedagogical core of classroom practice, including English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction. Because most Indonesian English teachers are non-native English teachers (NNETs) serving as both language models and curriculum agents, their cognition, the beliefs and knowledge shaping instructional decisions (Borg, 2003), plays a decisive role in translating policy into classroom enactment. This study investigated how junior high school NNETs perceive and enact deep learning integration under the Merdeka Curriculum. A qualitative case study was employed with two NNETs teaching Grade VIII and Grade IX English at a public junior high school in West Java, purposively selected. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observation, and document analysis, then analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's interactive model and interpreted through Borg's framework. Findings show both teachers conceptualize deep learning through the mindful-meaningful-joyful triad and align lesson planning with the Capaian Pembelajaran-Alur Tujuan Pembelajaran (CP-ATP) framework through collaborative teacher communities. Observation corroborated their reported facilitative, student-centered practices, including contextual prompting, collaborative and game-based tasks, error tolerance, and appreciation-first feedback. However, both reported persistent self-doubt about their English proficiency, heavier workload from differentiated instruction, and students' affective barriers as major constraints, mitigated through continuous professional development. The study concludes that NNET cognition, shaped by training, professional community, and lived experience as English learners, bridges the gap between curriculum policy and classroom enactment, though sustained institutional support remains essential.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of parenting styles on the emotional intelligence of students at SMP Negeri 1 Manuju, Gowa Regency. The study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The population consists of 93 students from SMP Negeri 1 Manuju, Gowa Regency. Data collection was conducted using a Likert-scale questionnaire administered to respondents to gather information regarding parenting styles and student emotional intelligence. The obtained data were analyzed using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) program, utilizing descriptive analysis, validity testing, reliability testing, assumption testing, simple linear regression analysis, t-testing, and the coefficient of determination. The results indicate that parenting styles have a positive and significant influence on students' emotional intelligence. This is evidenced by the simple linear regression equation Y = 17.062 + 0.428X. The partial test results show a calculated t-value of 5.942—exceeding the t-table value of 1.661—with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05); consequently, the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted. The correlation coefficient (R) of 0.559 indicates a positive relationship of moderate strength between parenting styles and emotional intelligence. Meanwhile, the R-square value of 0.272 indicates that parenting styles contribute 27.2% to students' emotional intelligence, while the remaining 72.8% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. Thus, parenting style is one of the factors playing a role in the development of students' emotional intelligence.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the language competence of children aged 5–6 years by incorporating animated audiovisual media into classroom learning activities at TK Kartini, Ledokombo District, Jember Regency. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, following the Kemmis and McTaggart framework, was implemented through two consecutive cycles involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflective evaluation. The research involved fifteen children from Group B as participants. Data were collected using classroom observations, documentation of learning activities, and field notes, then analyzed descriptively through percentage-based quantitative procedures. The results revealed a marked enhancement in children's language competence after the application of animated audiovisual learning media. Prior to the intervention, most participants were classified within the categories of Not Yet Developing and Beginning to Develop. Following the first and second research cycles, however, the proportion of children attaining the Developing as Expected and Highly Developed categories increased considerably. Improvements were evident across multiple aspects of language competence, including listening skills, comprehension of stories, the ability to answer questions appropriately, vocabulary enrichment, and confidence in expressing thoughts and ideas. These findings suggest that the integration of animated audiovisual media provides an effective pedagogical strategy for supporting language competence development in early childhood education.
