Journal of Character Education Society (JCES) | ISSN 2614-3666, is one of the devotion journals managed by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Muhammadiyah University of Mataram and published every January and July. The publication of JCES aims to disseminate conceptual thinking and ideas, especially the results of community service, including: (1) science, applied, social, economic, cultural, ICT development, and administrative services, (2) training and improvement of educational technology outcomes, agriculture, information and communication, and religion (3) Teaching and empowering community and community of students, youth and community institutions on an ongoing basis. Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas pengurus dan jamaah Masjid Nurul Huda Dasan Baru dalam menyusun perencanaan renovasi masjid berbasis partisipasi masyarakat. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi mitra adalah keterbatasan pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam perencanaan renovasi yang sistematis, serta rendahnya pelibatan masyarakat dalam proses pengambilan keputusan. Kondisi ini menyebabkan renovasi cenderung bersifat insidental, kurang tepat sasaran, dan belum berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan Participatory Action Learning (PAL) melalui tahapan sosialisasi (21 Maret 2026), perencanaan (25 Maret 2026), dan pelatihan (28 Maret 2026) yang diikuti oleh 47 peserta. Kegiatan dilaksanakan secara partisipatif melalui diskusi, praktik langsung, dan pendampingan penyusunan rencana renovasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap konsep perencanaan renovasi, kemampuan menyusun skala prioritas dan rencana tindak lanjut, serta meningkatnya partisipasi aktif dalam proses musyawarah dan pengambilan keputusan. Selain itu, kegiatan ini menghasilkan dokumen rencana renovasi yang realistis dan berkelanjutan sesuai kebutuhan jamaah. Kegiatan pengabdian ini berhasil mengubah pola pikir masyarakat menjadi lebih sistematis, partisipatif, dan berorientasi jangka panjang dalam pengelolaan fasilitas masjid. Dengan demikian, model pelatihan berbasis partisipasi ini efektif dalam meningkatkan kemandirian masyarakat dan dapat direplikasi pada komunitas lain dengan karakteristik serupa untuk mendukung pembangunan berbasis masyarakat yang berkelanjutan.Abstract: This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of mosque administrators and congregants of Nurul Huda Mosque, Dasan Baru, in developing participatory-based mosque renovation planning. The main problems faced by the community partner include limited knowledge and skills in systematic renovation planning, as well as low levels of structured community involvement in decision-making processes. These conditions have resulted in renovation activities being carried out in an incidental, unstructured manner, often lacking sustainability and alignment with the actual needs of the congregation. The method applied in this program is the Participatory Action Learning approach, implemented through three main stages: socialization (March 21, 2026), planning (March 25, 2026), and training (March 28, 2026), involving 47 participants. The activities were conducted using participatory techniques, including group discussions, hands-on practice, and guided assistance in preparing renovation plans. The findings indicate a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of renovation planning concepts, their ability to identify priorities and formulate actionable plans, as well as increased active participation in deliberation and decision-making processes. The program successfully produced a realistic and sustainable renovation plan aligned with the needs of the mosque community. In conclusion, this program effectively transformed the community’s mindset toward a more systematic, participatory, and long-term oriented approach in managing mosque facilities. Therefore, this participatory-based training model is proven to be effective in strengthening community independence and has strong potential to be replicated in similar community contexts to support sustainable community-based development.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penyalahgunaan narkoba dikalangan remaja menjadi salah satu permasalahan serius yang mengancam masa depan generasi muda, khususnya pada tingkat pendidikan menengah. Siswa MTs dan MA sebagai kelompok usia rentan memerlukan edukasi preventif yang sistematis dan berkelanjutan. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran siswa mengenai bahaya narkoba serta membentuk sikap preventif terhadap penyalahgunaannya. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di MTs dan MA Al- Mujahidin Desa Rempek, Kabupaten Lombok Utara, dengan melibatkan 50 peserta didik. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui tiga tahapan, yaitu penyampaian materi (sosialisasi), diskusi interaktif, dan refleksi bersama. Materi yang disampaikan mencakup jenis-jenis narkoba, dampak kesehatan, dampak sosial, serta strategi pencegahan di lingkungan sekolah dan keluarga. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman siswa tentang bahaya narkoba serta tumbuhnya kesadaran untuk menjauhi dan mencegah penyalahgunaan zat terlarang. Selain itu, peserta menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi selama kegiatan berlangsung dan aktif dalam sesi diskusi. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah awal dalam membangun lingkungan sekolah yang sehat, aman, dan bebas narkoba, serta mendorong peran aktif siswa sebagai agen perubahan di masyarakat.Abstract: Drug abuse among adolescents has become a serious issue that threatens the future of the younger generation, particularly at the secondary education level. Students of MTs and MA, as a vulnerable age group, require systematic and sustainable preventive education. This community service activity aims to enhance students’ understanding and awareness of the dangers of drugs and to foster preventive attitudes toward drug abuse. The activity was conducted at MTs and MA Al-Mujahidin in Rempek Village, North Lombok Regency, involving 50 students. The implementation method employed a participatory approach through three main stages: material presentation (socialization), interactive discussion, and collective reflection. The materials covered types of drugs, health and social impacts, as well as prevention strategies within school and family environments. The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of drug-related dangers and the development of awareness to avoid and prevent substance abuse. In addition, participants showed high enthusiasm and active engagement during the discussions. This program is expected to serve as an initial step in creating a healthy, safe, and drug-free school environment, as well as encouraging students to take active roles as agents of change in their communities.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi sastra serta mengembangkan ekspresi diri pelajar SMA/MA melalui lokakarya penulisan cerpen. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 6 Oktober 2025 di Aula Kantor Desa Bentek, Kabupaten Lombok Utara, oleh tim pengabdian dari Universitas 45 Mataram bekerja sama dengan Rumah Budaya Kembang Rampe Sammira. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyampaian materi, diskusi interaktif, praktik menulis cerpen, serta pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap struktur dan teknik penulisan cerpen, serta meningkatnya kepercayaan diri dalam mengekspresikan ide melalui karya sastra. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga mendorong tumbuhnya minat literasi di kalangan pelajar. Dengan demikian, lokakarya penulisan cerpen efektif sebagai media pengembangan literasi sastra dan ekspresi diri generasi muda.Abstract: This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve literary literacy skills and develop self-expression of high school/Islamic high school students through a short story writing workshop. The activity was carried out on October 6, 2025, at the Bentek Village Office Hall, North Lombok Regency, by a community service team from Universitas 45 Mataram in collaboration with Rumah Budaya Kembang Rampe Sammira. The methods used included material delivery, interactive discussions, short story writing practice, and mentoring. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the structure and techniques of short story writing, as well as increased self-confidence in expressing ideas through literary works. In addition, this activity also encouraged the growth of literacy interest among students. Thus, the short story writing workshop is effective as a medium for developing literary literacy and self-expression for the younger generation.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan ibu-ibu istri nelayan dalam mengolah ikan laut menjadi produk bernilai tambah berupa bakso ikan dan fishcake. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Desa Petiku, Kecamatan Longkali, Kabupaten Paser, Kalimantan Timur dengan pendekatan pelatihan berbasis praktik menggunakan desain one-group pretest–post test. Bahan baku utama yang digunakan adalah ikan alu-alu dan ikan bogor yang dikombinasikan untuk menghasilkan produk dengan karakteristik tekstur dan cita rasa yang optimal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan produksi peserta dengan rata-rata sebesar 32,18%. Peningkatan tertinggi terjadi pada aspek pemahaman bahan baku dan kandungan gizi. Produk yang dihasilkan memiliki tekstur kenyal dan elastis, yang menunjukkan terbentuknya gel protein miofibril secara optimal selama proses pemanasan. Penggunaan es dalam proses pencampuran serta kontrol suhu terbukti berperan penting dalam menjaga stabilitas protein dan kualitas produk akhir. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan berbasis praktik efektif dalam meningkatkan kapasitas teknis masyarakat dalam pengolahan hasil perikanan, serta berpotensi meningkatkan nilai ekonomi produk berbasis sumber daya lokal.Abstract:  This community service activity aimed to improve the skills of fishermen’s wives in processing marine fish into value-added products, namely fish balls and fishcakes. The program was conducted in Petiku Village, Longkali District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, using a hands-on training approach with a one-group pretest–post test design. The main raw materials used were a combination of barracuda (alu-alu) and bogor fish, selected to optimize texture and sensory characteristics of the final products. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ production skills, with an average increase of 32.18%. The highest improvement was observed in the understanding of raw materials and nutritional content. The produced fish balls and fishcakes exhibited desirable elastic and cohesive textures, indicating proper formation of myofibrillar protein gel during heat processing. The use of ice during mixing and proper temperature control played a crucial role in maintaining protein stability and enhancing product quality. This activity demonstrates that hands-on training is effective in improving community technical capacity in fish processing and has strong potential to increase the economic value of locally available fishery resources.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan istri nelayan dalam pengolahan dan pengemasan produk hasil  perikanan di Desa Petiku, Kecamatan Longkali, Kabupaten Paser, Kalimantan Timur. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan pembuatan bakso ikan dan fishcake berbahan dasar ikan laut lokal yang dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan pengemasan produk meliputi fungsi kemasan, pemilihan bahan kemasan yang sesuai, serta teknik pengemasan yang higienis menggunakan kemasan thinwall food grade. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui penyuluhan, demonstrasi, praktik langsung, dan pendampingan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta mengenai pentingnya kemasan dalam melindungi mutu produk, menjaga keamanan pangan, dan meningkatkan penampilan produk. Peserta mampu menerapkan teknik pengemasan yang lebih higienis dan menarik menggunakan kemasan thinwall pada produk bakso ikan dan fishcake yang dihasilkan. Selain itu, pelatihan juga meningkatkan kesadaran peserta mengenai peran kemasan dalam memberikan nilai tambah dan meningkatkan daya saing produk olahan hasil perikanan. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan pengemasan menggunakan bahan kemasan yang sederhana dan mudah diperoleh dapat menjadi strategi yang efektif dalam mendukung pengembangan usaha pengolahan hasil perikanan skala rumah tangga serta meningkatkan nilai ekonomi produk perikanan lokal.Abstract:  This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of fishermen’s wives in processing and packaging processed fish products in Petiku Village, Longkali District, Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. The activity was conducted through training on the production of fish balls and fishcakes made from local marine fish, followed by training on product packaging covering the functions of packaging, the selection of appropriate packaging materials, and hygienic packaging techniques using food-grade thinwall containers. The program employed a participatory approach through counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge regarding the importance of packaging in protecting product quality, maintaining food safety, and enhancing product appearance. Participants were able to apply more hygienic and attractive packaging practices using thinwall containers for fish balls and fishcakes. Furthermore, the training increased participants’ awareness of the role of packaging in adding value to fishery products and improving their competitiveness. These findings indicate that packaging training using simple and accessible packaging materials can serve as an effective strategy to support the development of household-scale fish processing businesses and increase the economic value of local fishery products.
