Journal of Character Education Society (JCES) | ISSN 2614-3666, is one of the devotion journals managed by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Muhammadiyah University of Mataram and published every January and July. The publication of JCES aims to disseminate conceptual thinking and ideas, especially the results of community service, including: (1) science, applied, social, economic, cultural, ICT development, and administrative services, (2) training and improvement of educational technology outcomes, agriculture, information and communication, and religion (3) Teaching and empowering community and community of students, youth and community institutions on an ongoing basis. All scope is realized to the community to form a society of character and uphold the values of education.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan mahasiswi Indonesia dalam mendampingi acara seremonial internasional dengan penggunaan tiga bahasa, serta mengidentifikasi tantangan dan strategi efektif dalam komunikasi lintas budaya. Pendampingan dilakukan melalui empat tahapan utama, yaitu koordinasi awal, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan bahasa Thailand, Inggris, dan Indonesia serta pemahaman budaya sangat berperan dalam kelancaran acara. Penggunaan ketiga bahasa tersebut memastikan komunikasi yang efektif di antara peserta dengan latar belakang berbeda. Strategi pembimbingan, seperti pelatihan intensif, simulasi, dan pemanfaatan teknologi, terbukti mendukung peningkatan keterampilan mahasiswa. Meskipun terdapat tantangan dalam penguasaan bahasa, perbedaan budaya, dan kesiapan menghadapi perubahan mendadak, pendekatan kolaboratif dan evaluasi berkala membantu mahasiswa tampil lebih percaya diri dan profesional dalam menjalankan peran mereka. Dengan demikian, pengabdian ini menegaskan pentingnya keterampilan komunikasi dan pemahaman budaya dalam mendukung keberhasilan acara seremonial internasional serta mengembangkan kompetensi mahasiswa dalam interaksi lintas budaya.Abstract:  This service aims to improve the understanding and skills of Indonesian female students in assisting international ceremonial events with the use of three languages, as well as identifying challenges and effective strategies in cross-cultural communication. Assistance is carried out through four main stages, namely initial coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed that mastery of Thai, English, and Indonesian as well as cultural understanding were instrumental in the smooth running of the event. The use of the three languages ensured effective communication among participants with different backgrounds. Mentoring strategies, such as intensive training, simulation, and technology utilisation, proved to support the improvement of students' skills. Despite challenges in language acquisition, cultural differences, and preparedness for sudden changes, the collaborative approach and regular evaluations helped students perform more confidently and professionally in their roles. Thus, this service confirms the importance of communication skills and cultural understanding in supporting the success of international ceremonial events and developing students' competence in cross-cultural interactions.

Abstract

Abtrak: Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pelafalan bunyi konsonan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa melalui penggunaan phonemic chart sebagai media bantu. Sasaran kegiatan adalah 32 mahasiswa dari berbagai program studi yang mengikuti Mata Kuliah Umum (MKU) Bahasa Inggris di universitas Jabal Ghafur. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi ceramah interaktif, audio-visual, drilling, diskusi kelompok, serta refleksi terstruktur. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam tiga sesi utama: pengenalan phonemic chart bunyi konsonan, latihan pelafalan secara individual dan berpasangan, serta simulasi pengucapan dengan panduan simbol fonetik. Hasil pre-test menunjukkan masih rendahnya ketepatan pelafalan bunyi konsonan seperti /θ/ pada kata think yang dibaca dengan tink, bunyi /ð/ yang terdapat pada kata this dibaca menjadi dis, /ʃ/ pada kata she terdengar seperti see, dan /ʒ/ pada measure juga terdengar seperti meser. Setelah pelatihan, post-test mencatat peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 35% dalam ketepatan dan kepercayaan diri mahasiswa dalam pengucapan. Peserta memberikan respon positif terhadap metode ini dan merasa terbantu dalam membedakan bunyi-bunyi yang selama ini sulit dipahami. Kendala yang dihadapi mencakup keterbatasan waktu dan kesulitan awal memahami simbol fonetik secara cepat.Abstract: This community service activity (Pengabdian kepada masyarakat) aims to improve students' English consonant sound pronunciation skills through the use of phonemic charts as a median teaching consonant sounds. The targets of the activity were 32 students from various study programs who attended the English General Course (MKU) at the Faculty of Teacher Training, Jabal Ghafur University. The implementation methods included interactive lectures, audio-visuals, drilling, group discussions, and structured reflections. The activities were divided into three main sessions: introduction of phonemic chart of consonant sounds, individual and paired pronunciation exercises, and pronunciation simulation with the guidance of phonetic symbols. The pre-test results showed the low accuracy of pronunciation of consonant sounds such as /θ/ in the word “think” become “tink” , /ð/ in the word this become as “ dis”, /ʃ/ in the word “she” sounds like “see”, and /ʒ/ in the word “measure” become as “meser”. After the training, the post-test recorded an average improvement of 35% in students' accuracy and confidence in pronunciation. Participants responded positively to the method and found it helpful in distinguishing sounds that had been difficult to understand. Obstacles encountered included time constraints and initial difficulty understanding phonetic symbols quickly.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mendorong kader Nasyiatul Aisyiyah untuk lebih aktif berkontribusi dalam berbagai ruang publik, baik dalam lingkup organisasi, komunitas, hingga ranah kebijakan yang lebih luas. Pelatihan public speaking bagi kader Nasyiatul Aisyiyah memberikan dampak signifikan terhadap peningkatan keterampilan komunikasi dan kepercayaan diri. Peserta menunjukkan kemajuan dalam teknik berbicara, penyusunan materi, serta keberanian tampil di depan umum. Kader juga mulai aktif berdakwah dan mengaplikasikan keterampilan berbicara dalam bidang ekonomi, guna meningkatkan kemandirian finansial. Program ini turut memperkuat organisasi dengan mengurangi ketergantungan pada iuran anggota dan memberikan manfaat sosial yang luas. Pelatihan ini tidak hanya berdampak pada individu, tetapi juga mendorong perubahan positif bagi komunitas secara keseluruhan.  Abstract: This activity aims to encourage Nasyiatul Aisyiyah cadres to be more active in contributing to various public spaces, both within the organization, community, and in the broader realm of policy. The public speaking training for Nasyiatul Aisyiyah cadres has had a significant impact on improving their communication skills and self-confidence. Participants showed progress in speaking techniques, material organization, and the courage to speak in public. Cadres also became more active in preaching and applied their speaking skills in economic activities to enhance financial independence. This program also strengthened the organization by reducing dependence on member contributions and providing broader social benefits. Thus, the training not only had an individual impact but also contributed to positive changes within the wider community.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman dan keterampilan praktis kepada guru pendidikan ilmu pengetahuan sosial dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi ke dalam pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan mencakup sesi teori dan praktik yang melibatkan penggunaan berbagai perangkat lunak serta platform pembelajaran digital, seperti Google Classroom, Kahoot, dan Canva. Guru pendidikan ilmu pengetahuan sosial diberikan kesempatan untuk mengeksplorasi fitur-fitur teknologi yang mendukung pembuatan materi ajar, evaluasi pembelajaran, serta komunikasi dengan siswa secara lebih efektif. Hasil dari pelatihan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru pendidikan ilmu pengetahuan sosial dalam mengaplikasikan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran. Guru pendidikan ilmu pengetahuan sosial menjadi lebih percaya diri dalam menggunakan alat digital untuk menyusun materi, mengelola kelas secara daring, serta meningkatkan interaksi dan keterlibatan siswa dalam pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran ilmu sosial di SMP Swasta di Kabupaten Lombok Barat serta mendorong inovasi dalam dunia pendidikan berbasis teknologi.Abstract: This training aims to provide understanding and practical skills to social studies education teachers in integrating technology into learning. The methods include theory and practice sessions involving various software and digital learning platforms, such as Google Classroom, Kahoot, and Canva. Social studies education teachers can explore technology features that support the creation of teaching materials, learning evaluation, and communication with students more effectively. The results of this training show an increase in the understanding and skills of social studies education teachers in implementing technology in the learning process. Social studies education teachers become more confident in using digital devices to compile materials, manage classes online, and increase student interaction and involvement in learning. Thus, this training is expected to improve social studies learning quality in private junior high schools in West Lombok Regency and encourage innovation in the world of technology-based education.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pembekalan wisudawan merupakan langkah strategis dalam mempersiapkan lulusan menghadapi dunia kerja yang semakin kompetitif. Artikel ini membahas peran Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) dalam membekali calon wisudawan dengan keterampilan dan wawasan yang dibutuhkan untuk memasuki pasar kerja. Melalui program pembekalan, peserta mendapatkan pelatihan tentang pengembangan karir, peningkatan soft skills, serta strategi adaptasi di lingkungan profesional. Kegiatan ini juga menghadirkan praktisi industri sebagai narasumber untuk memberikan gambaran nyata mengenai tantangan dan peluang di dunia kerja. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan bahwa pembekalan wisudawan dapat meningkatkan kesiapan dan kepercayaan diri lulusan dalam menghadapi proses rekrutmen serta membangun jenjang karir yang berkelanjutan. Dengan adanya sinergi antara kampus dan dunia industri, diharapkan lulusan UMMAT dapat lebih mudah beradaptasi dan berkontribusi dalam berbagai bidang profesi.Abstract:  Graduate briefing is a strategic step in preparing graduates to face the increasingly competitive world of work. This article discusses the role of Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) in equipping prospective graduates with the skills and insights needed to enter the job market. Through the briefing program, participants receive training on career development, improving soft skills, and adaptation strategies in a professional environment. This activity also presents industry practitioners as resource persons to provide a real picture of the challenges and opportunities in the world of work. The results of this program show that graduate briefing can increase the readiness and self-confidence of graduates in facing the recruitment process and building a sustainable career ladder. With the synergy between the campus and the industrial world, it is hoped that UMMAT graduates can adapt more easily and contribute in various professional fields.

Abstract

Abstrak: Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan meningkatkan kesadaran orang tua dalam mendukung pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa internasional melalui keterlibatan aktif siswa dalam kegiatan kampanye edukatif. Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari program pertukaran pelajar yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Indonesia di Lukmanulhakeem School, Yaha, Provinsi Yala, Thailand Selatan. Pelaksanaan program berlangsung selama dua bulan, terhitung sejak 12 November 2024 hingga 7 Januari 2025, melalui empat tahapan strategis, yaitu: koordinasi awal dengan tenaga pendidik, penggalangan dukungan dari orang tua, pelaksanaan pembelajaran intensif di lingkungan sekolah, dan penguatan keterlibatan keluarga dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil pelaksanaan program menunjukkan bahwa kolaborasi antara pihak sekolah, keluarga, dan siswa memberikan kontribusi signifikan terhadap peningkatan kompetensi berbahasa Inggris siswa. Meskipun sebagian orang tua memiliki keterbatasan dalam penguasaan bahasa Inggris, partisipasi mereka dalam kegiatan kampanye seperti Family English Challenge dan English for Life Simulation memberikan dampak positif terhadap motivasi dan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam berkomunikasi. Dengan demikian, pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis sosial-edukatif terbukti efektif dalam membentuk kompetensi abad ke-21, khususnya keterampilan komunikasi lintas budaya di wilayah yang memiliki keterbatasan akses terhadap pendidikan bahasa asing.Abstract:  This community service initiative was carried out with the aim of raising parental awareness in supporting English language learning as an international language through the active involvement of students in educational campaign activities. The programme formed part of a student exchange initiative undertaken by Indonesian university students at Lukmanulhakeem School, Yaha, Yala Province, Southern Thailand. The service project was conducted over a two-month period, from 12 November 2024 to 7 January 2025, and was implemented through four strategic stages: initial coordination with teaching staff, mobilising parental support, conducting intensive language learning activities within the school environment, and reinforcing family engagement in the learning process. The outcomes of the programme revealed that collaboration among schools, families, and students played a significant role in enhancing pupils’ English language proficiency. Although some parents had limited proficiency in English, their participation in campaign activities such as the Family English Challenge and English for Life Simulation positively contributed to students' motivation and confidence in communication. Thus, a socially and educationally driven approach to language learning proved effective in fostering 21st-century competencies, particularly cross-cultural communication skills, in areas with limited access to foreign language education.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penguatan struktur organisasi merupakan program strategis dalam melanjutkan gerakan dakwah dan pengembangan program baik secara internal maupun eksternal. Penguatan struktur ini dimaksudkan untuk mengasah potensi dan sumber daya kader yang dimiliki Muhammadiyah sebagai pelopor, pelangsung dan penyempurna visi dan misi persyarikatan. Kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat dalam bentuk penguatan struktur organisasi ini fokus pada keberadaan kader dan warga Muhamadiyah yang bermukim di desa Karang Bongkot. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk tiga tahapan, dimulai dari tahapan observasi, Forum Group Discussion, dan pendampingan terhadap penyusunan struktur kepengurusan. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian Masyarakat berbasis pengembangan persyarikatan ini selama satu bulan, mulai bulan Maret sampai dengan April 2025. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini dimana sudah tersusun struktur kepengurusan Pimpinan Ranting Muhammadiyah desa Karang Bongkot sebagai media komunikasi dan interaksi kader dan warga Muhammadiyah. Susunan kepengurusan yang terdiri dari kepengurusan inti yaitu ketua, sekretaris dan bendahara, struktur wakil ketua dan majelis serta lembaga sebagai unsur pembantu pimpinan yang akan melaksanakan secara teknis implementasi program kerja. Artinya keberadaan struktur kepengurusan ranting Muhammadiyah Karang Bongkot ini menjadi penting serta memiliki peran strategis dalam menggairahkan gerakan pencerahan dan dakwah menggembirakan bagi umat manusia.Abstract: Strengthening the organizational structure is a strategic program in continuing the da'wah movement and program development both internally and externally. Strengthening this structure is intended to hone the potential and resources of Muhammadiyah cadres as pioneers, implementers and perfecters of the organization's vision and mission. This community service activities in the form of strengthening the organizational structure focus on the existence of Muhammadiyah cadres and residents who live in Karang Bongkot village. The implementation of this activity is carried out in three stages, starting from the observation stage, Forum Group Discussion, and assistance in compiling the organizational structure. The implementation of Community service activities based on the development of the organization is for one month, starting from March to April 2025. The results of this service activity are that the management structure of the Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership of Karang Bongkot village has been arranged as a medium of communication and interaction for Muhammadiyah cadres and residents. The management structure consists of the core management, namely the chairman, secretary and treasurer, the structure of the deputy chairman and council and institutions as elements assisting the leadership who will technically implement the work program. This means that the existence of the Muhammadiyah Karang Bongkot branch management structure is important and has a strategic role in stimulating the enlightenment movement and joyful preaching for humanity.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penggunaan antibiotik yang tidak sesuai akan menimbulkan dampak negatif hingga menyebabkan resistensi antibiotik. Bakteri yang telah mengalami resistensi tidak lagi merespons pengobatan standar, sehingga infeksi menjadi lebih sulit ditangani dan memerlukan antibiotik yang lebih kuat, lebih mahal, atau bahkan memiliki efek samping yang lebih berbahaya. Hasil identifikasi permasalahan pada mitra ditemukan permasalahan bahwa masyarakat di desa Gedangan memiliki pengetahuan yang kurang tentang penggunaan antibiotika yang baik. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat di Desa Gedangan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan sikap masyarakat terhadap penggunaan antibiotik. Pengabdian dilakukan dengan metode ceramah dan diskusi interaktif kemudian di evaluasi dengan memberikan kuesioner pretest dan postest. Pengabdian diikuti oleh 23 peserta dengan media edukasi berupa lefleat. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan rata-rata nilai pretest 29,34% dan hasil nilai postest menunjukkan peningkatan yaitu 41,84%. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dengan metode ceramah dan diskusi interaktif mampu meningkatkan 12% pemahaman masyarakat tentang bahaya resistensi antibiotika.Abstract:  Inappropriate use of antibiotics will have negative impacts and cause antibiotic resistance. Bacteria that have experienced resistance no longer respond to standard treatment, so that infections become more difficult to treat and require stronger, more expensive antibiotics, or even have more dangerous side effects. The results of the identification of problems with partners found that the community in Gedangan village had less knowledge about the proper use of antibiotics. Community Service in Gedangan Village aims to improve community understanding and attitudes towards the use of antibiotics. Community service is carried out using the lecture and interactive discussion method, then evaluated by providing pretest and posttest questionnaires. The service was attended by 23 participants with educational media in the form of leaflets. The evaluation results showed an average pretest score of 29.34% and the posttest score showed an increase of 41.84%. Community service activities using the lecture and interactive discussion method were able to increase 12% of community understanding of the dangers of antibiotic resistance.
