Abstract

Manual work activities are more dependent on the operator's ability which still makes frequent Errors. One of the mistakes that occurs is due to human negligence or human Error. Human Error in manual work can result in work accidents. Even if human Error occurs frequently, it can result in a decrease in the efficiency and effectiveness of the company. Lathe activities at PT. C still uses the machine manually. Lathe work activities include the process of installing the lathe tool, picking up the workpiece, setting up the workpiece and the turning process. However, in these activities, there are still many human Errors that occur so that they affect the production of lathes. So it is necessary to improve operator performance in order to reduce human Error. For this reason, it is necessary to identify activities that have the potential for human Error. Work activities are broken down into task levels. Task levels are used as inputs to identify and analyze human Error qualitatively. This method is known as the SHERPA method. This study aims to find out the type of Error in each sub-task of the lathe process and provide recommendations to reduce the human Error that occurs. This research involved all lathe operators at PT. C. and validity is carried out to practitioners to produce consensus. The results of human Error analysis using the SHERPA method found three types of human Errors in the lathe process, action Error, selection Error and information communication Error. So, to reduce the prediction of Errors, it is recommended to train operators, relayout the production floor, increase K3 awareness, increase accuracy and comprehensive communication.

Abstract

One of the largest steel industries in Indonesia produces cold-rolled sheet steel, with production handled by the Cold Rolling Mill Factory. This study focuses on the Continuous Pickling Line and Continuous Tandem Cold Mill units, which have the highest downtime of 230 hours, resulting in a delay cost of 6 billion Rupiah. The objective is to identify the functions, failures, causes, and impacts on critical components, and to propose appropriate maintenance activities and intervals. Failure information is gathered using failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), while the appropriate maintenance activities are determined using a reliability-centered maintenance II decision worksheet. The study identifies four critical components in the CPL unit and five in the CTCM unit. Five failure modes are addressed by on-condition scheduling, seven by restoration scheduling, and seven by failure interval. Proposed maintenance intervals for on-condition scheduling include 9,413 minutes for stand #5, 8,371 minutes for stand #4, 12,383 minutes for stand #3, 12,996 minutes for stand #2, and 7,123 minutes for stand #1. Restoration scheduling intervals are 34,000 minutes for the saddle breaker, 21,000 minutes for the wiper, and between 12,000–23,000 minutes for other components. Failure interval maintenance for the welder, pickling tank, and stands ranges from 2,409 to 6,540 minutes.

Abstract

The manufacturing industry sector, especially Small and Medium Industries (SMEs), faces major challenges in increasing competitiveness, especially related to the dynamic changes in the global supply chain and the need for halal food products. This study aims to analyze research trends related to Sustainable Halal Supply Chain (SHSC) using a bibliometric analysis approach. Using data from the Scopus database, this study identifies relevant scientific publications and examines the contributions of various countries, authors, and journal sources on this topic. The results of the analysis show that research related to SHSC has grown rapidly after 2018, driven by increasing attention to sustainability and global market demand for environmentally friendly halal products. Countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia lead publications on this topic, focusing on the integration of halal principles and sustainability in the supply chain. Despite a significant increase in publications, most of the research is still conceptual, with a lack of empirical data, especially outside Southeast Asia and the Middle East. This study proposes to increase empirical-based studies, especially in Indonesia, to understand the challenges and opportunities in implementing SHSC. This study provides insight into the development and direction of SHSC research, as well as its contribution to economic, social, and environmental sustainability in the halal food industry.

Abstract

Garlic is one of the most useful and popular types of onions in Indonesia. It has many benefits in daily life. In Indonesia, especially in West Sumatra, garlic is most commonly used as a cooking spice in traditional restaurants. Restaurants in West Sumatra typically require peeled garlic since they lack the time to peel large quantities for cooking. This situation creates an opportunity for household industries to supply peeled garlic in large amounts. One of the household industries producing peeled garlic in West Sumatra, particularly in Padang, is Usaha Kelas Menengah (UKM) Ulak Karang. This business carries out the garlic peeling process using two methods: manual peeling and machine-assisted peeling. Based on observations using a man and machine process chart, the main issue faced by UKM Ulak Karang is setup time. The machine is utilized only 15% of the time, while idle time reaches 85%. Workers spend 76% of their time on setup, 15% on idle time, and 9% on allowances. The setup time in the garlic peeling process significantly affects daily production output. Reducing setup time can accelerate the process, allowing production targets to be met. Additionally, increasing the daily volume of peeled garlic leads to higher income for UKM Ulak Karang. To address this issue, the Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) method was applied directly to workers at UKM Ulak Karang. As a result, setup time was reduced by 58.29%, and production output increased by 71.55%

Abstract

This research discusses work ergonomics based on influencing factors including noise levels, lighting, and temperature to increase worker productivity to achieve production targets and protect workers from work fatigue on an ongoing basis. Systematic analysis is used with initial experiments to evaluate and then optimize parameters such as lighting, noise, and temperature. These factor dimensions can influence workers' skills and influence work productivity and work fatigue. The response surface method methodology is used to optimize parameters. The findings from the research showed that the optimal level with the scenario was that the most suitable noise level was 55.17 dB, the optimal environmental temperature was 26.35°C, and the optimal lighting level reached 2983 Lux. With this combination of conditions, knitting assembly time can be minimized to 12 seconds per unit. The novelty of this research work lies in its application to labor-intensive industries with skilled workers as production personnel where these factors can influence work productivity. The obtained regression model can be widely used for further research and adjust parameters based on various data such as anthropometry.
