Abstract

The goal of using interactive e-books as learning tools is to help teachers and students write persuasive paragraphs. In the arduous task of writing argumentative paragraphs, students continue to battle to persuade the reader, and the built-in sentences remain difficult to understand. Interactive e-book media feature aspects of argumentative paragraphs such as definitions, traits, examples, and practice. This study evaluates the viability of e-book products designed for fourth-grade elementary school students using the three-step Research and Design (R&D) method: planning, design, and development. On several devices, students can view interactive e-book media made with the application Canva. The researcher validated the product's content, media, and trials with the intended audience (students) to determine the product's viability. The validation of the content yielded a score of 63 out of a maximum of 65, suggesting that 97% of the material was legitimate. The media validity percentage was 91%, with a score of 41 out of 45 for the media validation results. The validity rate of student trials was 85%. This medium is engaging for children and has the potential for repeated use in writing training. The findings of this study suggest that educators should create media to enhance learning.

Abstract

Dayak Ngaju is one of the many Indonesian languages originating from the Austronesian family. Dayak Ngaju language is used by speakers from Central Kalimantan. This study aims to determine the continuous directed verbal constructions in the Dayak Ngaju language based on a typology study and then compare it with Balinese. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Methods of data collection using the interview method are also considered. The typological approach used as data analysis in this study is then presented through an informal method. The results of this study indicate that the Dayak Ngaju language can be formed through transitive Verba 1 (V1) + transitive Verba 2 (V2) and intransitive Verba 1 (V1) + intransitive Verba 2 (V2) patterns. If related to the Talmy typology, the results of the study show that Dayak Ngaju is a language that has a verb or satellite framework, which is different from Balinese which may be formed based on motion verbs (as core verbs) and followed by prepositional phrases (roads) which act as addition.

Abstract

Many online translation machines can translate more than 100 languages, including German into Indonesian and vice versa. However, the accuracy and standardization of the results still need to be investigated. This study aims to identify language errors in the translation of German texts into Indonesian using Google Translate and Bing Translator. This research is a descriptive qualitative research based on language error analysis. The data is derived from 12 German news articles published by Deutsche Welle. These German texts were translated into Indonesian using these two machine translators. The translated texts were analyzed for language errors at the semantic, morphological, and syntactic levels. The results of this study show that there are still language errors at the semantic, morphological, and syntactic levels in the translated texts produced by Google Translate and Bing Translator. Both translation machines tend to translate the text word for word. A translation result is an initial form of translation that needs to be edited to obtain an accurate translation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of applying the three gap tasks, namely the gaps of reasoning, opinion, and information in improving middle-level students' speaking skills. The research method used in this research is quasi-experimental. The research participants totaled 200 students who were divided into two groups, namely experimental and control. Participants were divided into three experimental groups and one control group. The students' initial ability in each group was tested to ensure that the students' initial speaking ability did not differ much. The treatment of the three gap assignments was given to the experimental group. The results showed that the three experimental groups that received the intervention for gaps in reasoning, opinions, and information experienced a more significant increase in their speaking ability than the control group. Improvement of students' speaking skills can be seen from various aspects both verbally and nonverbally. It can be concluded that these three gaps of opinion, reasoning, and information tasks are more effective than traditional methods in improving students' speaking skills. The implication of the research is that teachers can choose these three gap tasks to train students in speaking as well as organize their talk.
