Abstract

This study examines the preservation of local wisdom and Islamic values through the marpege-pege tradition in the Angkola community. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research explores the meanings, functions, and transformations of this tradition within its socio-cultural and religious context. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that marpege-pege functions as a social institution that facilitates collective resource redistribution, strengthens social solidarity, and reinforces kinship networks. It embodies key Islamic values, including ta‘āwun (mutual assistance), ukhuwah (brotherhood), and ṣadaqah (charity), positioning it as both a cultural and religious practice. From a sociological perspective, the tradition represents a form of social capital that enhances community resilience in the face of economic and social challenges. However, modernization, urbanization, and shifting value orientations have contributed to changes in its implementation, including reduced participation and a tendency toward transactional practices. These transformations risk weakening its core values of sincerity and collective responsibility. This study argues that the sustainability of marpege-pege depends on its adaptive reinterpretation, ensuring its relevance in contemporary society while preserving its essential cultural and religious foundations. The research contributes to the broader discourse on the interaction between local traditions and Islamic values in shaping social cohesion and cultural continuity.

Abstract

Background: The digital transformation has significantly changed the pattern of religious learning among university students. In Purwokerto, this shift is evident in the declining student participation in campus mosque activities. While these mosques were originally built not only as places of worship but also as centers for Islamic learning and community engagement, students now prefer to access religious knowledge via digital platforms such as WhatsApp and YouTube, which are perceived as more practical and aligned with their academic routines. Purpose: This study explores how university students engage in Islamic learning through social media (‘ngaji medsos’) and its impact on their religious attitudes. Method: The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach observations, interviews, and documentation at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. Results: Findings show that WhatsApp and YouTube are preferred for flexibility and accessibility. Conclusion: While ngaji medsos facilitates learning, it cannot fully replace the mosque’s role in spiritual and community development. The study underscores the need for campus mosques to adapt to digital culture to enhance student engagement and ethical development.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Islamic leadership and work culture on the international reputation of Islamic higher education institutions, with employee engagement as a mediating variable. Using a descriptive quantitative design and PLS-SEM analysis of 555 respondents from five Indonesian state Islamic universities, findings reveal that leadership and work culture indirectly affect international reputation through employee engagement. These results highlight the strategic importance of fostering ethical leadership, a supportive work culture, and engaged employees to strengthen institutional capacity and global recognition. The findings reveal that although Islamic Leadership and Islamic Work Culture do not exert a direct effect on international reputation status, both variables significantly influence it indirectly through Employee Engagement as a mediator. These results contribute to strengthening employee engagement as a strategic component in enhancing organizational capacity within Islamic educational institutions. The strategies derived from this study underscore the importance of leadership roles, Islamic work culture, and employee engagement in improving and sustaining the global reputation of these institutions.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of information quality, service quality, and perceived educational quality on the institutional image of Darunnajah University. The research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method involving students, lecturers, alumni, and administrative staff as respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, and were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method to examine the relationships among variables. The results indicate that perceived educational quality has the strongest influence on institutional image, followed by service quality and information quality. The research model explains 57.18% of the variance in institutional image, indicating that these three variables make a significant contribution to building the image of the university. The findings highlight the importance of integrating educational quality, service quality, and information quality in strengthening institutional reputation. Improving academic quality supported by professional services and the provision of accurate and transparent information can enhance public trust in the institution.

Abstract

Background: Islamic Education holds a strategic position in shaping students’ moral character and ethical conduct, not merely through the transmission of Islamic teachings but also by internalizing spiritual values and ethical principles that influence social behavior. Purpose: Amid ongoing social transformations, including rapid technological development and cultural shifts, the significance of Islamic Education has become increasingly pronounced. Globalization and modernization bring both opportunities and challenges, such as moral decline, identity crises, and social tensions. Within this context, Islamic Education serves as a moral compass that enables students to navigate the complexities of contemporary society. Method: This study adopts a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach, aiming to provide in-depth insights into enhancing the quality of Islamic Education instruction while emphasizing its role in addressing the dynamics of a continuously evolving social environment. Results: The findings reveal that Islamic Education plays a significant role in fostering students’ moral responsibility and social awareness, as well as equipping them to confront the challenges of the modern era. Moreover, the integration of contemporary pedagogical strategies with traditional Islamic teachings enhances the effectiveness of Islamic Education in character formation amid rapid social change.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education presents both opportunities and ethical challenges, particularly within Islamic education, which emphasizes moral and spiritual values. However, empirical studies examining how AI is humanistically integrated in madrasah contexts remain limited. This study aims to analyze the process of AI integration within value-based Islamic pedagogy and to construct a conceptual Humanistic–AI Learning Model for Islamic elementary education. A qualitative case study was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah NU Ma’arif Karangnangka, Banyumas, involving five teachers, one principal, and three students selected purposively. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, and analyzed thematically using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model with triangulation. The findings indicate that AI integration operates as a negotiation between technological literacy and spiritual values. Four themes emerged: (1) the initial construction of AI as an instrumental tool, (2) partial yet humanistically oriented digital pedagogical practices, (3) ethical tensions between technological efficiency and moral integrity, and (4) the role of spiritual leadership in shaping digital transformation. This study contributes a novel Humanistic–AI Learning Model that conceptualizes a dialectical relationship between pedagogical, humanistic, and spiritual dimensions in AI integration. The model extends humanistic learning perspectives by framing AI as an ethical-spiritual practice and provides practical implications for developing ethically grounded, AI-ready madrasahs.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of local wisdom values in Aqidah Akhlak learning at MTsN Babul Mujahidin, Bayan, North Lombok. Aqidah Akhlak learning plays an important role in shaping students’ religious and social character; however, it is often delivered in a general manner and is insufficiently adapted to students’ cultural backgrounds. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the integration of local wisdom values into Aqidah Akhlak learning contributes to improvements in students’ religious behavior and social attitudes. Students demonstrate higher discipline in performing congregational prayers, stronger awareness of mutual cooperation, and greater respect for teachers and peers. In addition, students from pesantren backgrounds exhibit more consistent religious practices compared to non-pesantren students. The implementation of local cultural practices, such as deliberation (musyawarah) and communal activities, helps students internalize moral values in a more contextual and meaningful way. This study concludes that integrating local wisdom into Islamic education can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening students’ character by connecting religious teachings with their socio-cultural environment

Abstract

This study examines a productive waqf–based financing management model as a sustainable solution for Islamic educational institutions. It aims to develop an effective and integrative framework that aligns Islamic financial principles with contemporary institutional needs. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes classical fiqh literature, modern financial management theories, and recent empirical studies from Indonesia and other Muslim-majority countries. The findings indicate that productive waqf can function as a reliable and sustainable funding source when supported by transparent governance, professional asset management, and technology-driven financial reporting systems. The proposed MIWAP-PI model highlights the importance of nazhir professionalism, accountability, and institutional autonomy in optimizing waqf assets. Practically, this model provides a structured approach for Islamic educational institutions such as pesantren, madrasah, and Islamic universities to reduce dependence on external funding and develop self-sustaining financial systems. Ultimately, it contributes to strengthening Islamic social finance ecosystems and supports the achievement of maqashid al-shariah, particularly in ensuring long-term educational sustainability.

Abstract

This study analyzes the improvement of student learning outcomes on funeral prayer materials through the application of the demonstration method in Fiqh learning in Grade IX MTs Riyadhul Muttaqin As'adiyah. Using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted over two cycles each comprising planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages data were collected via learning outcome tests, observation sheets, and documentation, and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches. The research subjects consisted of 20 students with a Minimum Completeness Criterion (MCC) of 75. Results show a progressive increase in average scores across stages: 64.5 (pre-action), 73.8 (Cycle I), and 83.05 (Cycle II), with learning completeness rates of 0%, 40%, and 95% respectively. Beyond cognitive improvement, students also demonstrated enhanced activeness and confidence in practicing the funeral prayer procedure. These findings confirm that the demonstration method effectively strengthens cognitive, psychomotor, and affective dimensions of Fiqh learning, and is particularly suited to procedural and practical Islamic education content.
