Abstract

Social media in Indonesia has developed rapidly over time. This is supported by increasingly advanced internet infrastructure, such as wifi access, fiber networks, and so on. Indonesians are increasingly active in the world of social media, with a penetration rate of tens of millions of people. The existence of social media certainly has an impact, both positive and negative so that any content can go viral easily. When interacting or communicating using this media, so many people abuse the ethics of socializing in cyberspace by uploading or commenting on posts using harsh words which are called verbal violence. This study aims to determine the form of language used in social media and the form of comments on posts on social media Facebook. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. The source of research data comes from social media Facebook, while the data is in the form of verbal abuse comments on Facebook. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques. Data analysis used qualitative analysis techniques and data validity checking techniques performed by checking observation and memberchek persistence. The results showed that the form of the language used in the Facebook sentence had straightforwardness, accuracy, and clarity. Meanwhile, the forms of comments on posts on Facebook in the form of verbal abuse include: swearing, hyperbole, dysphemism, stigmatization, and association with animals. The language of verbal violence on Facebook shows that Indonesian people are still not polite in language, so it becomes input for the government and educational institutions to provide strategic steps to overcome this problem.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the classroom-based incident action model in improving students' explanatory text writing skills during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used was Classroom Action Research with the model of Kemmis and Mc Taggart. This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles. Each cycle has 2 meetings. The research subjects were students of class XI IPA 1 SMAN 8 Bengkulu City, school year 2020/2021. The instruments used were tests and non-tests. Data collection techniques through 1). Documentation in the form of Geogle Classroom, Geogle From, and Geogle Docs applications, 2) tests in the form of multiple choice tests and essays, and 3) questionnaires, to determine student responses to the application of classroom-based incident action models. The analysis step is through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the application of the classroom-based incident action model was able to improve the ability to write explanatory text during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is indicated by before applying the incident action model students obtained learning outcomes with an average score of 73.44 in the Good category and increased after the implementation of the incident action model with an average score of 83.16 in the Very Good category. The result of cycle 1 to 2 increased by 1.16%. Then, the results of the questionnaire obtained were 63.75% of students agreed that the classroom-based incident action model was applied during the Covid-19 pandemic, obtained in the Good category. The classroom-based incident action model has the advantage of being able to increase student creativity when writing explanatory text activities because each individual in the group contributes ideas in the form of explanatory writing.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the function of language in the procession of Berasan in the Rejang ethnic group in Lebong Regency. The research method uses qualitative content analysis methods. The main data of this research is in the form of oral text on Berasan. Data collection techniques using documentation, observation, and interviews. Data analysis techniques are by means of interpreting the content of communication, both in text and in context, reading symbols, and interpreting the content of symbolic interactions that occur in communication. Test the validity of the data using triangulation of data sources and member check. The results showed that the custom of Rejang ethnic Berasan in Bioa Sengok Village, Rimbo Pengadang District, Lebong Regency was dominated by 67.74% referential functions while directive and fatigue functions were complementary functions respectively 25.80% and 6.43%. The function that is very influential on the Berasan event is the directive function so that there is an agreement between the two prospective brides in carrying out the marriage. Although in fact, this Berasan event is a traditional formality event because the agreement has been discussed by both parties, especially the prospective groom and the bride before the Berasan event is held.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of speaking skills using storytelling techniques and making speeches by students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, FKIP University of Bengkulu. The research method used is a classroom action research method with the Hopkins model which was implemented in two cycles. Each cycle is carried out through four stages including the planning stage, the action stage, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. The data sources of this research were 34 students of the S-1 Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Bengkulu University, semester II class A. The data of this research are in the form of students' performances in making speeches and telling stories. The data collection technique is in the form of a speaking test, namely making speeches and telling stories. The data analysis used the mean formula and the final analysis was qualitative. The results showed that there was an increase in speaking skills using storytelling techniques and speaking to students. This can be seen from the process and learning outcomes in the first cycle with an average score of 71.88 in the good category, increasing in the second cycle with a score of 81.18 for the very good category. In particular, this increase occurred in storytelling skills with a score of 72.9 in the good category, and speech with a score of 70.85 in the good category, increased in cycle II for storytelling skills with a score of 80.7 in the very good category and speaking with a score of 81.65 in the very good category. . This improvement in speaking skills was followed by an increase in student activity in the learning process in cycle I with an increasing active attitude in cycle II being very active in an attitude of integrity, independence, discipline, responsibility, and honesty.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the singing method on students' phonation abilities. The method used is an experimental method with a pre-experimental model design one group pretest-posstest. Data collection techniques using essay test techniques. The sample in this study was class A.2.1 with a total of 39 students. The data analysis used the t test formula using the IBM SPSS 24 program. The results showed that the singing method was effective in improving students' phonation skills in the Phonology course. The effectiveness of this singing method was proven by the results of the pretest with the student's average score of 83.7 with a very good category, while the posttest results of 85.4 were also in a very good category. Based on the results of statistical test analysis using SPSS 24, it can be explained that the average value obtained is 1.65 with a standard deviation of 14.391, and the average standard error value is 2.433. From the results of the data analysis, the t test value is 3,970 with a df of 34.

Abstract

This study aims to develop online learning media for listening skill by using google form and google classroom which is tested in the course of listening skill for the first semester students. Type of the research used is Research & Development (R&D). The research instruments used were online developed tests, questionnaires, and expert validation sheets. The development used was the 4D development model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). At the disseminate stage it was not widely implemented because the product was only limited to students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, FKIP, Bengkulu University. The results showed that the development of online-based listening skills learning media using google form and google classroom was feasible for use by students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Bengkulu. This is indicated by the assessment based on the expert validation sheet at valid qualifications with an average of 4.00. The assessment based on the student response questionnaire is in very good qualification with an average of 3.22. Then, the assessment based on student test results is in good qualification with an average of 82.93.

Abstract

Students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program at the University of Bengkulu have difficulty writing a thesis research proposal. This is proven by not many students who passed on time in semester VIII. The purpose of this research is to identify and describe: (1) the ability of students in writing thesis research proposals and (2) the difficulties faced by students in writing thesis research proposals. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The population of this study was all students of semester VII of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program in the 2017/2018 academic year. The sample of this research is 80 students who write thesis research proposals. The data collection techniques were documentation and interview techniques. Data analysis to analyze quantitative data used the percentage formula, while for qualitative data it was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model with the steps of data reduction analysis, data display, verification, and conclusions. The results showed that the ability to write thesis research proposals for seventh semester students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program for the academic year 2017/2018 was classified as sufficient qualification. Then, students experience difficulties in compiling proposals in writing problems and problem formulations, writing theoretical foundations and literature reviews, determining research methods, data collection techniques and arranging instruments as well as testing, assessment rubrics, and research data analysis. The seventh semester students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program at the University of Bengkulu should be assisted so that they really understand how to compile a thesis research proposal so that they can write a research proposal well and in the end students will be able to complete their thesis quickly and on time.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce a description of 1) the process of developing a fable text supplement book for understanding the anti-corruption values ​​of seventh grade junior high school students, 2) the quality of fable text supplement book development for understanding the anti-corruption value of seventh grade junior high school students as measured by the validity and practicality of the supplement book. This study was designed using development research methods. The supplement book development procedure uses a 4-D development model. The process of developing this supplement book model consists of four stages, namely definition, design, development, and distribution. The data collection techniques used were literature study and observation. Literature study is used to obtain written basics and opinions so that secondary data is obtained which will be used as a basis for comparison between theory and practice in the field. Observation is used to see the implementation of the development process including definition, design and development. The results showed that the fable text supplement book was appropriate because it could improve students' understanding of the anti-corruption values. This is evidenced by the quality of the fable text supplement book that is valid, practical, and effectively used. Details of practicality, namely the results of the implementation of the learning implementation plan of 80.1% in the good category, the results of the teacher's response to 81.3% in the good category, and the results of the student's response by 85.7% in the very good category. Then, the level of effectiveness of the fable text supplement book was categorized as very good. Details of the effectiveness, namely the results of teacher activity by 88.4% in the very good category, the results of student activity by 85.7% in the very good category, and the results of learning completeness by 99% in the very good category.

Abstract

YouTube as social media is not only a means of communication in social interactions, but can also be used as a means of political communication. As a means of political communication, YouTube is often used to convey opinions and support for political figures who are promoted through communication, especially seen in the comments column. Various communication styles are carried out by social media users, either through comments, criticisms, suggestions, and jokes, which have the opportunity to contain hate speech. This article is the result of qualitative research that focuses on interpreting the data that has been obtained with an in-depth explanation of the phenomenon of using hate speech in the comments column of the Youtube Channel for political news in Indonesia. Data that has been successfully extracted, collected, and recorded in research activities. The technique of testing the validity of the research data used member check and validation of media experts. The results of this study indicate that the hate speech that occurred in the 2019 presidential election political news on the YouTube channel is in the form of words and phrases, as well as the use of language styles. The language style of hate speech in this study is dominated by sarcasm, which means rude, contains cursing, insinuation, ridicule, and the use of names or nicknames for others with disrespect or even humiliation or insult.

Abstract

Critical thinking can manage the cognitive and emotional intelligence of students, based on this, free learning for educators and students is needed today. Especially in learning to write descriptive text through audio-visual media. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the application of independent learning through the use of audio-visual media in learning to write descriptive texts. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The object of this research is descriptive text through audio-visual media which is taught at the seventh grade junior high school level. To collect data used documentation and observation techniques. Data analysis techniques were selected, interpreted, and concluded. Test the validity of the data using member checks and validation of Indonesian language learning experts. The results showed that 1) audio-visual media can help educators and students in writing descriptive text learning activities in implementing the independent learning policy, 2) audio-visual media used in learning to write descriptive text has an effect on increasing educational values, inviting students to think critically. , as well as providing a meaningful experience, 3) audio-visual media can make it easier to write descriptive text directly through the information obtained, and 4) audio-visual media will not be boring for students because the material for writing descriptive text conveyed is very varied.
