Abstract

Desa tangguh bencana (Destana) is a program aimed to make a village community prepared for and resilient to disasters. The Destana program was initiated by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) decreed by the Regulation of the head of BNPB No. 1/2012. A village represents the bottom line in the government system and therefore the capacity building for disaster resilience starts from the villages. The number of villages in Central Java reaches 8559 villages, while BNPB, BPBD Province, BPBD Regency/City can only launch Destana on average 30 villages each year from 2013 - 2018. As a result, it takes quite a long time to forming Destana in all villages in Central Java. Therefore, the role of universities, in particular the state universities in forming Destana, is really needed. One of the activities in the formation of Destana was in the kuliah kerja nyata tematik program (KKN PRB) conducted in Purbalingga Regency in 2 villages that were prone to landslides. Provisioning for students refers to Perka BNPB Number 1/2012 by implementing 20 Destana indicators. Gunungwuled village and Panusupan village were the two villages where the KKN PRB done by 10 students each. For 45 days students could build several indicators, i.e. making disaster risk maps calculated based on hazard maps, vulnerability maps, and capacity maps. Next, they made a Landslide Contingency Planning Document with residents and relevant stakeholders. The Village Disaster Risk Reduction Forum consisting of various community components and the BPBD of Purbalingga Regency was also formed. Afterwards, the capacity building activities to the community against disasters were conducted. Finally, an early warning system for landslides in areas with potential landslides was created and warning signs for landslide-prone areas and evacuation route signs were installed. With the help of KKN PRB, the Panusupan village and Gunungwuled village have now become disaster resilient villages.

Abstract

Gendola herbal syrup is a solution in the form of syrup containing gendola as an active substance that is dissolved in the syrup component. Gendola syrup has a high betalain antioxidant content, and is beneficial for improving health. Betalain antioxidant content is easily damaged due to the influence of air, humidity, and temperature, causing the red color of the gendola to fade. The implementation of this project aimed to help improve the quality of Gendola syrup and provide training to partners so that they were able to market Gendola syrup products online. This project was implemented in productive community groups, UDHerba Puspitasari in Mlandangan Rt 02 Rw 08, Mandan Village, Sukoharjo District Sukoharjo Regency to make them able to produce and market herbal processed products. Based on observations of the results achieved, our partners were able to produce herbal syrup, although it was still limited, the quality was not good, and it did not yield profits. The methods implemented in this program included: 1) provide training for making Gendola syrup with encapsulation methods; 2) provide equipment that can support the production process; 3) provide online marketing training. The results obtained in this community-service activity contributed siqnificantly to UD Herba Puspitasari in their efforts of producing high-quality Gendola syrup and marketing the products online.

Abstract

According to Law No. 3 of 2002 on National Defense, the defense of the State is the responsibility of all citizens of Indonesia, including community organizations. Forum Bela Negara (FBN) DKI Jakarta, a community organization formed with the specific purpose of overseeing efforts to strengthen the values of the country's defense in society, has long been taking part in implementing the law. FBN, especially in the DKI Jakarta province, has organized many activities such as regular, comprehensive, and integrative socialization of fostering awareness of defending the country to the cadres and the public, as well as supporting and carrying out government programs for the creation of the National Defense Cadre. This is in line with the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 7 of 2018 concerning the 2018-2019 National Action Plan of Nation Defense, which states that the internalization of the basic values of state defense to the general public is one of the intended action plans. The problems faced by FBN DKI Jakarta include the measurability of the results of activities and the ineffectiveness of the approach (model) of activities that have been held. The voluntary nature of membership in mass organizations (Law No.17 of 2013 article 1 paragraph 1) has caused FBN to have many limitations including in Event Management. The purpose of this community service program was to strengthen the FBN's institutions by increasing the soft skills and hard skills of the DKI Jakarta FBN Management on Event Management, which included, among others, the approach of implementing activities, making creative proposals, and raising funds. The method used in this program was as follows. First, a need assessment was conducted; next, a mini-workshop on Event Management was held, and finally, a Coaching Clinic or supervision to the idea of DKI Jakarta FBN activities was provided. Institutional strengthening was chosen because FBN as a mass organization has a strategic function in carrying out social change, such as supporting efforts to instill nationalism spirit and awareness of the defense of the people's state. The output of this activity was, among others, increasing knowledge and skills of the DKI Jakarta FBN Management related to Event Management, as evidenced by the draft proposal they had prepared. The core of this activity was to identify an adaptive, contemporary approach ranging from planning, implementation, and an evaluation in the activities carried out by the State Defense Forum.

Abstract

Waste that is not managed well may potentially cause diseases and negatively affect the quality of life. Rusunawa Muara Baru, Jakarta, is one of our partner communities that need continuous training in all aspects, including waste management. Therefore, the present community service program was carried out to educate the residents of Rusunawa Muara Baru on the importance of sorting waste and how to process household organic waste into liquid organic fertilizer and bokashi compost. The program was conducted twice in two weeks. At the first meeting, an introductory questionnaire was distributed, an interactive discussion was performed, and a fertilizer production workshop using simple composters was initiated. Two weeks later, the composting results were evaluated, and the participants filled out the evaluation questionnaire. Approximately 83% of the participants agreed to sort household waste after the program was completed, which showed the participants' increasing awareness in waste processing. The liquid biofertilizer produced was used for planting vegetable seeds even though it still had a foul odour. The quality of the compost produced, however, was still below expectations. We suggest that in the future, education and workshops on simple household-scale composting methods capable of producing good quality liquid organic fertilizer and compost without odour should be conducted.

Abstract

The rapid progress of the modern age, especially the development of technology towards industry 4.0, requires people to work more effectively and efficiently by trying to replace the traditional work patterns that rely heavily on human labor with machines,. In the village of Karihkil, Ciseeng, Bogor Regency, there are many home-industry manufacturers of various cassava chips. This business is still done manually so that it affects the quality and quantity of cassava chips they produce. This business opportunity needs to be developed further by increasing the cutting capacity of the cassava chips, given the fact that the manufacturers still use manual cassava cutting tools. In this present community-service activity the cassava chopper machine was designed and fabricated with a motor drive source (using a crank rotation) so that an increase in production results would be obtained by accelerating the process of cutting cassava into chips. This chopping machine was designed to work simultaneouly with the frying process so that the whole process occurred only once to obtain cassava chips ready for packaging. By using this new process, there was an increase in the production of cassava chips by two times. In addition, the thickness (1 mm) and dimension (diameter 3 cm) of cassava chips were consistently produced. This machine was also designed to overcome existing deficiencies with manual workmanship such as irregular cutting thickness and cracked cuts.

Abstract

The importance of public media literacy has been recognized by the School of Communication, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia for a long time. Various studies that support this issue are then used as a basis for community service program on improving the ability to use media in various places with diverse target audiences. This activity was first carried out by a team of lecturers involving students in 2011 and continued until 2019. There was a fundamental shift in its substance related to the rapid development of information and communication technology. This shift is primarily a form of media. Previously the media used by the public were print, audio, visual and audio visual. With the development of technology and the emergence of digital media, grouping occurs as the old or conventional media and new or digital media. This paper aims to explain the track record of community service in increasing media literacy conducted by the School of Communication, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, as a form of evaluation and mapping in an effort to maintain program sustainability. The results of the track record evaluation and mapping show that the shift in the shape of the media requires an adjustment in the substance of the material, namely from increasing the ability to use conventional media, to increasing the ability to use digital media. Therefore, in development, the preparation of materials, delivery methods and implementation, requires the right strategy for this effort to be sustainable. The implementation of the plans arranged shows that collaboration with various parties and an understanding of the culture of the target communities will facilitate the delivery of material and increase the success of the program.

Abstract

The corn kernel separator machine discussed in this paper is designed for our partner, a cow breeder in Cisarua, Bogor. Our partner currently has a corn kernel separator that can work at a capacity of 50 kg per hour, but the results of the separation of kernels by the machine are not clean and the open design of the separator makes the corn kernels difficult to collect. Besides, it is challenging to find replacement parts in case of a machine failure. Our partner needs a new corn kernel separator to meet the growing need for feed as the number of cows increases. The purpose of this project is to design and build a corn kernel separator that can meet the need for animal feed at the partner’s farm. The stages of the design conducted are as follows. It begins with identifying the problems to be solved, followed by the concept design and determination of variants, the implementation of the best variant, and the detailed design including calculations needed before fabrication. The result of the design process is the realization of a corn kernel separator machine with an average capacity of a minimum of 138 kg per hour that meets the requirement of the partner. Besides, with this new corn kernel separator, the results of the separation are neater and the corn kernels are not thrown out of the machine during the separation process. The machine uses a shaft with a combination of pins and chains to separate the kernels and is driven by a 1-phase electric motor.

Abstract

Tomb tourism objects are often regarded as segmented tourism objects for certain people looking for spirituality. This activity makes it difficult for tomb tourism objects to become popular tourist attractions. The tomb of Sheikh Abdul Ghofur is one of the religious tourism which so far can be enjoyed by only a handful of people who know of its existence. The long story of Sheikh Abdul Ghofur in spreading Islam in Cianjur Regency is a wealth of ancestral history that benefits all elements of society. Therefore, through the community service program of the School of Business and Economics (SBE), Prasetiya Mulya University, the tomb of Sheikh Abdul Ghofur was packaged to make it more popular and accessible to all groups. The main focus of increasing its popularity was to strengthen the story and to make it available on the internet such as providing an explanation of the location of the tomb through the Google Maps application and making tourist booklets to install signage. This effort was fully implemented so that the Tomb of Sheikh Abdul Ghofur could now be accessed by various groups to maintain history in the Cianjur Regency.
