Abstract

The existence of death rites in the Nosu area, Mamasa, is often stigmatized as pagan worship amidst Christianity because it is a tribal religious ritual, Alu' Todolo, which, according to evangelists and local church institutions, is considered to be contrary to Christian teachings. There is no effort on the part of the church to dialogue and reconcile these rituals with Christian teachings. This research uses qualitative methods to search for the meaning or value of death rites using theological-anthropological studies, hoping that through this approach, the context can speak based on its own reality and perspective. These local policies will then be dialogued with understanding Christianity using Paul F. Knitter's Mutuality and Paul Tillich's Correlation models. It was found that death rites were a place of intense encounter and encounter between Christianity and Aluk Todolo in Mamasa. These encounters allow basic principles to be used as a common basis for interreligious dialogue. which can enrich the understanding of faith.

Abstract

This article contains field research on the experiences of liturgists in involving their bodies through communal and personal body gestures in the liturgy, the meaning of these gestures, and understanding of the body through movements carried out in one of the GPIB churches in Depok. The research used a descriptive-qualitative method with observation instruments at three weekly worship schedules for one month and semi-structured interviews with liturgical practitioners encountered throughout the observation. The interview focused on three themes: the liturgist's interpretation of communal bodily gestures, the liturgist's experience of personal gestures and the meaning attached to these gestures, and the liturgist's understanding of the body, which is born from the experience of liturgy. The results of this research show the types of bodily involvement in the GPIB liturgy, both in the form of communal and personal gestures, as well as their meaning, the significance of the application of physical gestures in worship and a picture, in a limited way, of how members of the GPIB congregation understand the body. It is hoped that the results of this research will ultimately be a consideration for Calvinist churches to start giving more significant space to applying bodily gestures, especially personal gestures, as a form of liturgical language.

Abstract

Something is fascinating about Bathsheba's passivity in 2 Samuel 11. She spoke and said, "I am Pregnant". This statement is important to review because it describes Bathsheba's feelings and actions, considering that she has often interpreted them with a negative label. The author is interested in examining this statement according to feminist theological studies by considering its socio-cultural, religious, and economic context. It employs a qualitative research technique with a descriptive approach. The research results show that Bathsheba's statement is the strength and courage of a woman who can "step outside" her zone. He is a victim, but his statement is a victory even though Batsyeba appeared as a woman who enters the messianic lineage.

Abstract

The article aims is to shed light on the process of regenerating the laity into church-serving lay leaders. This article constitutes a literature review employing a qualitative approach to explore 2 Timothy 2:2, focusing on trustworthy, capable, and committed lay leadership as successors of truth. This analysis involves reading and interpreting the text 2 Timothy 2:2 while referencing relevant literature on Christian leadership and applying Paul's model of lay leadership to Timothy, aiming to contribute to developing a pattern of lay leadership for contemporary churches. This article examines the concept of lay leadership, emphasizing the leader's ability to inspire and motivate lay individuals to develop their potential and become future leaders. It underscores the importance of setting a positive example, building trust, and empowering followers to achieve change. This article employs this theory to explain how Paul mentored Timothy into a competent congregational leader for the Lord. According to the findings, Paul used a laity leadership approach to prepare Timothy for leadership in the early Christian church. He demonstrated leadership by emulating the life and attitude of the Lord Jesus. He instructed him of faith, duty, and ministry, entrusted him with ministry and leadership responsibilities, and encouraged him to be independent and mature in his leadership. Paul developed Timothy's leadership potential and prepared him to lead the Lord's congregation through this process. The conclusion emphasises the significance of transformative leadership in developing lay leaders who can effectively serve the church.

Abstract

This study stems from the need for a more interactive and liberating approach to Christian Religious Education, adopting the Student-Centered Learning (SCL) framework, which emphasizes active student engagement, self-reflection, and the development of critical skills. This research explores the implementation and effectiveness of deliberative Christian religious education in promoting deep understanding and relevant life skills among students. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with an exegetical and expository approach to collect and analyze data in depth. The study results indicate that the SCL approach effectively increases student motivation and engagement and supports the development of independence and creativity. However, challenges such as teacher and student adaptation and limited resources require specific strategies and training to effectively implement this approach in Christian Religious Education.

Abstract

Rich and poor are an ancient enigma as old as humanity. The Bible contains many narratives about the problem of the rich and poor. Jesus was very often in touch with the issue of rich and poor. The four canonical gospels provide many accounts of Jesus' response to the question of rich and poor. Therefore, a study of the canonical records is necessary to reveal Jesus’ partisanship, whether to the poor or the rich. This paper demonstrates this partisanship, i.e., embracing both groups where He is the meeting point. As the new body of Christ, the church continues the role of Jesus as a bridge for both groups to meet and make peace. A more extraordinary task is given to the rich to help the poor out of their poverty. Jesus offers a third way. Yesus menawarkan jalan ketiga.

Abstract

This study aims to carry the local philosophical value of Indonesian culture, Nemui Nyimah, as the value of theology for disability. Religious institutions’ inability to provide hospitality for people with disabilities creates a social gap in society. The incapability of religious institutions is due to psychological and economic aspects. This situation makes it a heavy burden for religious institutions to increase the well-being of those with disabilities and to provide facilities for them. As a society leaves the job of accepting disabilities at the religious institution’s door, it constructs the inability of it. Through the sociology of religion approach, this research brings up the emic perspective of the problem. The core problem is analyzed and presented logically and systematically through critical thinking by assessing the literature. The result of this study is to convey the local culture, Nemui Nyimah, as a theological value of life, solidarity, hope, hospitality, and economic justice for disability. The conclusion is that the culture of Nemui Nyimah constructs theology for disability through the cosmological value of accepting with the open arms of a church as Christ accepts the failures.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent to which religious moderation programmed by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia since 2019 has a place in the life of the Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera (GMIH) Tobelo Service Area. This research uses qualitative research methods, which emphasize phenomena and examine the substance of the meaning of these phenomena. This research found that ideally, religion should not be a source of conflict but rather a guide for society to live a pluralistic life; strengthening religious moderation is vital to building national culture and character; in the Indonesian context, moderate religion can be used as a cultural strategy to maintain an Indonesia that is peaceful, tolerant, and respects religion; the religious moderation program has not been well received and implemented by the church as a government partner, less popular among local churches like the Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera (GMIH). In conclusion, local churches, such as GMIH, play an essential role in building religious moderation, cultivating it in a structured manner within its internal circles through work programs regulated from the synodal level to the congregations.

Abstract

This article examines the relationship between liturgy and culture in the Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera. It also shows that culture is important in Christian religious practice, as shown in the worship liturgy.
