Journal of Educational Research and Evaluation (JERE) is an interdisciplinary publication of original research and writing on education which publishes papers to international audiences of educational researchers. Abstract

The teacher's response to the problem of the socio-ecological crisis becomes important and urgent as an effort to increase teachers' sensitivity, willingness and ability to identify potential and socio-ecological problems that exist in the school environment and the surrounding area.Therefore, this study aims to analyze how teachers participating in in-service teacher training, called Teacher Professional Education (PPG), perceive socio-ecological issues. This study aims to analyze the teacher's perception of the socio-ecological crisis. This study uses a quantitative analysis approach with a survey method. The population in this study were 102 teachers participating in the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) primary school teacher training program, with a sample of 96 people. Data collection uses a questionnaire with an electronic google form format. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics. The research results on teacher perceptions support the inclusion of socio-ecological crisis material in environmental learning in schools and PPG in in-service teacher training positions. In conclusion, although teachers still practice caring and environmentally friendly habits in schools, teachers have paid attention to the importance of critical environmental learning, outdoor learning, collective, and environmental problems in preventing and overcoming socio-ecological. The implication is that teachers are expected to gain many dimensions and critical environmental perspectives in responding to social-ecological problems.

Abstract

Indonesia's energy needs each year increase in line with economic growth and population. Indonesia still needs to work on achieving its development targets in the energy sector to date. Dependence on fossil energy, especially petroleum, is still high to meet domestic energy consumption. Non-renewable energy reserves such as oil, natural gas, and coal are very worrying because they run low. The urgency in this study is very important because there are rarely studies that compare the Knowledge and Perceptions about the Prospects of Utilizing Biofuel-Based Alternative Energy Sources. This study aims to analyze the effect of knowledge and perceptions about the Prospects of Utilizing Biofuel-Based Alternative Energy Sources. This research method is a mixed method, with the sampling technique in this study being multistage random sampling. The number of respondents as a sample is 100 respondents. The data collection instruments used were in the form of questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study is divided into descriptive statistical testing (mean, median, min, and max) and inferential (simple regression). The regression test results show an influence of Knowledge and Perception about the Prospects of Utilizing Biofuel-Based Alternative Energy Sources.

Abstract

Mathematical communication is an important part in learning mathematics. Mathematical communication is a way for students to express mathematical ideas either orally, in writing, pictures, diagrams, using objects, presenting in algebraic form, or using mathematical symbols. Through mathematical communication, students can convey ideas and clarify understanding and knowledge during the mathematics learning process. Mathematical communication skills are important because in learning mathematics, the use of notation, symbols, formulas and terms is a determining factor in problem solving. Due to the pandemic, learning activities are carried out online through Edmodo. This may bring changes to students' mathematical communication when doing a discussion. For this reason, this research aims to describe students' mathematical communication during discussion session in the Introduction to Geometry course through Edmodo. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 35 students of first semester mathematics education who were taking the Introduction to Geometry course. The results showed that in doing a discussion, the students used written, visual, and symbolic mathematical communication. In expressing their opinion, students can also use more than one type of mathematical communication. In addition, the opinions expressed in the discussion were at various cognitive levels.

Abstract

The low ability of Indonesian students is related to the science learning process which has not fully provided opportunities for students to develop critical reasoning skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the E-Scrapbook media containing HOTS questions on the learning outcomes of fourth grade elementary school students. This research is an experimental research using a quantitative approach. The research design used in this study was a one group pre-test post-test design. The subjects of this study amounted to 30 elementary school fourth grade students. The effectiveness of using E-Scrapbook media with HOTS questions can be measured using the test method. The data analysis method used in this research is descriptive and inferential analysis. The analytical technique used to test the hypothesis is Paired Sample T-Test. Hypothesis testing using the help of the IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows version 21.0 program. There is a significant difference in the learning outcomes of students' science before and after participating in learning using the E-Scrapbook media containing HOTS-Based Questions. Thus, the application of E-Scrapbook media containing HOTS-based questions in the learning process effectively has an influence in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an encouragement for someone to be more active in achieving something. However, everyone's motivation is different so that it affects students' science process skills. This study aims to describe the effect of students' learning motivation on students' science process skills in learning science. This study uses a sequential explanatory approach. The research subjects were 175 class VIII students who were selected by total sampling technique. The data collection instruments used were observation sheets for students' science process skills, student learning motivation questionnaires, and interview sheets. Qualitative data were analyzed using Miles and Hubarman while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics using assumption and hypothesis testing (regression test) to see the effect of learning motivation on students' science process skills. The results of this study conclude that there is a significant effect of students' learning motivation on students' science process skills with a significance value of 0.001. Learning outcomes have implications for the learning process, namely as an evaluation material to create effective learning. Science process skills of students will increase along with the high motivation of students in learning. The results of this study can contribute to the world of education in particular and society in general. Through the results of this study, it is known how students' learning motivation and the level of students' science process skills in science learning, as well as knowing the relationship between learning motivation and students' science process skills.

Abstract

Management of teacher competency development and training in improving learning quality still has constraints on planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating. This study aimed to describe the management of teacher competency development and training in improving learning quality. This qualitative study used case-study and descriptive methods. Data were collected using observations, interviews, and documentation then reduced, presented, and concluded. Based on the results, the management of teacher competency development and training in improving learning quality has been running to improve teacher competence making them have the structure, concept and scientific mindset to excel students through high learning quality even though it is not optimal due to constraints on the number of teachers, mismatches with qualifications, oriented to assignment scheduling, low HR quality, and low mastery of technology so that the proposed solution is to train teachers to have good competence, teach according to their own expertise, career development through functional roles based on credit score calculations, motivate teachers to continue study to a higher level, provide opportunities for teachers to participate in training, raise salaries, conduct clinical supervision to all teachers, and assess learning tools owned by teachers.

Abstract

New Students’ Admission (here termed as PPDB) aims to support the Indonesia country in the education quality equalization. For this, there is a need for research to observe the impacts of PPDB on the education quality. This research aims to describe the procedure in the preparedness, implementation, and impacts of zoning system policies of PPDB on the education quality equalization in middle schools in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. This quantitative research was conducted using the discrepancy evaluation model developed by Malcolm M. Provus. The respondents involved included the principals, PPDB committee, students and students’ guardians representing five zones as determined in Bantul Regency. The technique of collecting data was conducted using the questionnaires, interview and documentation. The content validity was carried out using Cronbach’s Coefficient Alpha. Meanwhile, the data analysis used was the descriptive-quantitative and canonical test. This research on the implementation of PPDB using zoning system in Bantul Regency showed the following results: the zoning system policies in PPDB had no a significant impact on the quality equalization of education at middle schools in Bantul Regency. Overall, the completeness of the supporting equipment for the learning process at state middle schools in Bantul Regency has been available and and running well. The PPDB committee stated that there has been no change in education management both before and during the zoning system policy in PPDB. Thus, there is no change in the education quality.

Abstract

In the 21st century, students must master digital literacy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many students could still not use online learning support facilities. It has an impact on decreasing reading competence and student engagement. This study aims to determine the effect of peer assessment-based digital literacy on reading competency and engagement of EFL students during the post-COVID-19 pandemic. This research utilized a quasi-experimental design. A total of 10 groups of students participated in this study. Two groups of students were selected using cluster random sampling; 30 participants were assigned to the experiment, and 30 were assigned to the control group. The data instruments used two post-tests and a questionnaire. The dataset was statistically analyzed using One-way ANOVA and MANOVA, with assistance from SPSS version 26.0. The findings of this study implied that there was a significant effect of peer assessment-based digital literacy on the reading competency of EFL students; and there was a significant effect of peer assessment-based digital literacy on the EFL students' engagement. There is a simultaneous effect of peer assessment-based digital literacy on EFL students' reading competency and engagement. This study found that peer assessment-based digital literacy is one of the best ways to improve EFL students' reading competency and engagement. It is suggested that more research be done on this topic, not just on how well students read, but also on how motivated students are to learn, how students and parents see each other, how involved parents are, and what factors help and hinder students.

Abstract

Teenagers today have a very permissive nature related to sex before marriage, giving rise to various health problems in adolescents. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of using youth health booklets in education to strengthen the character of healthy living behaviors in junior high school students. This type of research is quasi-experimental, with the research design being a randomized posttest-only control group design. The research sample was students who took part in the extracurricular activities of the AIDS and Drug Concern Student Group (KSPAN), totaling 58 people. The data collection method uses self-assessment and observation, and self-assessment sheets. Objective tests and descriptions measure students' knowledge of healthy lifestyles through questionnaires. The results showed that students who demonstrated mastery of the concept of a healthy lifestyle were in the good and very good categories of 96.67%, showed student responses in the good (27%) and very good (73%) categories, and showed good behavior (40%) and very good by 60%. The use of youth health booklets can strengthen the healthy behavior of junior high school students. This research implies that students are expected to be able to improve the application of clean and healthy living behaviors in everyday life.

Abstract

An effective learning process cannot be separated from various supporting factors, one of which is the use and support of technology during the learning process. Therefore, this research aims to identify the need for digital media in interactive media formats to support learning in vocational high schools. This research method is included in quantitative research with the type deskriptive, using non-test data collection techniques in the form of a questionnaire as the research instrument. The subjects of this research are vocational high school students majoring in electrical power installation engineering, totaling 36 students. The data analysis technique used is descriptive by converting student responses into percentages. From the research results, information was obtained that so far teachers are still comfortable with the lecture and discussion method, while in the context of using learning media, teachers still tend to consistently use printed modules and printed material books. The use of ICT tools by teachers is very minimal, even though almost 72.2% of students have been able to operate computers and are quite familiar with digital technologies. Through this research, information was also obtained that most students agree with the innovation of ICT-based learning media in the format interactive media to support learning which so far has very minimal application and integration of ICT. This research is expected to provide new insights regarding the importance of identifying what students need in order to improve the quality of education.
