Abstract

Higher education is a source of innovation and solutions for the growth and development of the nation along with the times. One of the critical issues of higher education is the decline in the number of new students entering private universities (PTS) influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and the change of several State Universities to Legal Entity State Universities. This causes competition between PTS to be tighter and unavoidable. This study aims to analyze the location of private university selection decisions with the brand image variable as the mediating variable. The subjects of this study amounted to 200 students. The data in this study were collected using a questionnaire method with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire sheet. The analysis technique used in this research is structural equation model (SEM) analysis. This study's results indicate a significant influence between brand image and private college decisions. So it can be concluded that, partially, location and brand image have a positive and significant effect on the decision to choose a private university, and the area has a positive and significant impact on the brand image of private universities. As for the indirect effect, brand image can partially mediate the considerable influence of location on private college selection decisions. This research can guide the government and higher education managers in designing policies that support the availability of quality education in various places, thereby opening more comprehensive access for students to choose universities according to their needs and values.

Abstract

This research began with various students' difficulties in maintaining cohesion and coherence when writing descriptive text. In addition, the use of appropriate vocabulary is also a significant problem. Students often use words that are not appropriate to the context or lack variety, so that their writing becomes monotonous and less interesting. These difficulties indicate that there is an urgent need to improve students' descriptive text writing skills through more effective and innovative learning approaches. This research is classified as an experimental type of research using a factorial design. Data was taken from 32 experimental class students and 32 control class students using descriptive text writing skills test instruments and learning motivation questionnaires. The results of the analysis and discussion in this research confirm that the Experiential Learning model is effective in improving descriptive text writing skills for both students with high and low learning motivation, so that the Experiential Learning model and learning motivation do not interact significantly with each other. These findings support the hypothesis that direct experience and critical reflection offered by the Experiential Learning model can enrich the learning process and improve descriptive text writing skills. Thus, it can be concluded that the Experiential Learning model is significantly more effective than conventional methods in improving descriptive text writing skills, regardless of whether students' levels of learning motivation are high or low. The implications of this research indicate that the use of experience-based learning models and increasing learning motivation can significantly improve students' writing skills.

Abstract

This research identifies the problem of low interest in reading among elementary school students, where only 30% of students in Indonesia have achieved an adequate level of reading ability. The urgency of this research lies in the urgent need to increase interest in reading to support students' literacy and critical thinking skills. The aim of the research is to describe the level of students' reading interest in picture story books and the role of the school library in providing appropriate reading materials. The research method used is a quantitative survey. The total research sample was 345 students from 10 elementary schools in Jayapura, Papua. Data collection techniques were used through distributing questionnaires and interviews to obtain more in-depth information. The research results showed that 80% of students had a high interest in reading picture books, 76% showed seriousness in reading and 74% were able to understand the content of the reading. These findings indicate that although interest in reading is high, access to picture story books still needs to be improved. This research concludes that school libraries play an important role in increasing students' interest in reading. The implication of this research is the need for reading literacy policies in schools and providing attractive book collections for students to build positive reading habits from an early age, in order to improve the overall quality of education.

Abstract

Evaluation of student abilities in Biology subjects often faces challenges in ensuring that the instruments used actually measure what they are supposed to measure. The data analysis used is the Rasch model, which is part of item response theory, offering a more accurate approach in analyzing evaluation data. This model allows the identification of items that are inappropriate or too difficult, as well as providing more in-depth information about individual student abilities.  Through analysis of instruments and question items from 30 multiple choice questions that emphasize critical thinking skills, the aim of this research is to assess the quality of Biology questions for class X SMA. Testing was carried out using WinStep software and Rasch modeling analysis on 166 students from five high schools/vocational schools. The research method used is quantitative. The results of the instrument investigation show that the issue has very good dependability and the unidimensionality of the instrument is indicated by unexplained changes in the first differentiation. These results show that the Rasch test can help educators in selecting questions that meet the evaluation criteria and contribute to improving the quality of national education. The implications of this research are By applying the Rasch Model, educators can develop more accurate and fair evaluation tools, which are able to identify individual student difficulties and strengths.
