Abstract

Latar belakang.

Abstract

Introduction: The results of the 2018 Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) survey stated that the prevalence of children's tooth persistence in the mandibula was 66.23%, and in the maxilla it was 33.77%.  The primary factor influencing the process of tooth eruption in children is their attention to dental health. Health promotion using educational game media can improve knowledge about tooth eruption and make it less boring. Educational games for children aged 7–10 years include puzzles and flash cards. The objective is to evaluate the impact of educational media puzzles and flashcards on children's understanding of tooth eruption. Method: This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted on 97 children aged 7-10 years at SD Muhammadiyah 16 Karangasem, Laweyan, Surakarta. The study began with a pretest. Small groups of 5-7 children and 1 researcher played the game. Each small group was given puzzle or flashcard media. The game was played every morning for 7 days; on the seventh day, a posttest was conducted. Results: Flashcard pretest scores, flashcard posttest scores, puzzle pretest scores, puzzle posttest scores. Each group's dependent t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000, while the independent t-test yielded p-values of 0.099 and 0.115. Conclusion: Flashcard and puzzle educational media are each effective in increasing children's knowledge about tooth eruption, but there is no significant difference when the two are compared.

Abstract

Background: One way to reconstruct bones is with bone grafting. Hydroxyapatite (HA) is often used as a bone graft, because it has biocompatibility, osteoconductive, bioactive, non-toxic and non-immunogenic properties. HA can be obtained from natural materials such as shells, limestone, egg shells and others. Using natural materials has several advantages such as high Ca/P ratio content, abundant quantities, and cheaper material production costs. The nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (nHA) used in this research is Corbicula moltkiana shell powder. Purpose: to know; a) FTIR characterization of nHA Corbicula moltkiana; b) the level of toxicity of Corbicula moltkiana nHA on HDFA cells, and c) the ideal concentration of Corbicula moltkiana nHA on HDFA cell viability. Methods: in vitro laboratory experiment with post-test only control group design. To find out the characterization, use the FTIR characterization test. Toxicity test using the MTT method. The research samples were Corbicula moltkiana nHA powder and HDFA cells. The samples were divided into 4 groups, namely the control cell group and 3 groups of nHA Corbicula moltkiana with concentrations of 25 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml, and 100 µg/ml. Results: 1) Corbicula moltkiana nHA powder has good HA quality, 2) cell viability at concentrations of 25 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml, and 100 µg/ml against HDFA cells was 99.64%, 96.51% and 83.93%, respectively. Conclusions: 1) the higher the concentration of Corbicula moltkiana nHA, the lower the viability of HDFA cells, but all concentrations studied were not toxic, 2) Corbicula moltkiana nHA is biocompatible with HDFA cells.

Abstract

Definitive management of Oral lichen planus (OLP) remains challenging due to its intractable nature and unclear cause. Steroid and non-steroid mouthwash preparations are recommended for OLP, especially for diffuse or difficult-to-access lesions. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy of available steroid and non-steroid anti-inflammatory mouthwashes in managing OLP focusing on pain reduction, lesion size reduction, and possible side effects. A systematic literature search from 2012- 2022 was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, following PRISMA guidelines. Nine RCTs included with steroid mouthwashes (dexamethasone, triamcinolone) show promise as effective treatment options for reducing pain and lesion size in OLP, while non-steroid mouthwash (cyclosporine) demonstrates better long-term remission. Natural adjuvant therapies, like nanocurcumin gel, quercetin capsules, and SE-ACE tablets can support the use of steroid mouthwashes. Additionally, fluconazole capsule, itraconazole capsule, and nystatin suspension can be used as adjuvant therapy to prevent secondary candidiasis infection caused by steroid mouthwashes. The risk assessment of bias using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools showed seven articles with a low risk of bias and two with a moderate risk. However, heterogeneity in the type, dose, trial duration, and outcome measures limit direct comparisons of treatment effectiveness.

Abstract

Gingivitis is a periodontal disease that is often found in the oral cavity. According to Health Research in 2018, the prevalence of gingivitis in Indonesia is ranked second which shows a figure of 96.58%.  The causes of gingivitis are grouped into local factors and systemic factors. Local factors include caries, failed restorations, and piles of food waste, while systemic factors include nutritional, hormonal, and hematology. An abnormal hematological condition that can cause gingivitis is increased polymorphonuclear leukocyte levels in the blood circulation. Polymorphonuclear leukocyte levels can be affected by a person's sleep quality, poor sleep quality can trigger an increase in leukocyte levels. Poor sleep quality is vulnerable to being experienced by shift workers, including the security unit (security guard). This study aims to determine the correlation between polymorphonuclear leukocyte levels and gingivitis in the Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) security unit. This study uses an observational type of analysis with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique uses non-probability sampling in the form of purposive sampling. The sample used was 30 UMS security guards. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square non-parametric statistical test. The data of this study was obtained from the results of an examination of polymorphonuclear leukocyte levels and gingivitis examination in the form of a gingival index of respondents conducted at RSGM Soelastri Surakarta. The instruments used are diagnostic sets and hematology analyzers. The results of this analysis test obtained a significant value with a value of p=0.035. Conclusion of this study There is a relationship between

Abstract

Background: Calprotectin is a neutrophil secretion product that serves as one of the biomarkers for periodontal tissue inflammation. Calprotectin levels in Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) are reported to increase in periodontitis conditions. Celery (Apium graveolens) contains flavonoids and polyphenols that have potential anti-inflammatory properties. The topical microemulsion-gel formulation offers optimal bioavailability of active substances when applied to periodontal pockets. Objective: To determine the effect of celery microemulsion-gel on GCF calprotectin levels in an experimental model of chronic periodontitis. Methods: This experimental study used 25 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into 5 groups (n=5): healthy control group, negative control group, and three treatment groups receiving Apium graveolens microemulsion-gel at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 100%. The chronic periodontitis model was induced using P. gingivalis. Apium graveolens microemulsion-gel (0.7 ml) was applied to the inflamed gingival sulcus for 7 days. GCF samples were collected using filter paper and calprotectin levels were measured using ELISA method. Data analysis was performed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. Results: GCF calprotectin levels in the Apium graveolens microemulsion-gel treatment groups were lower compared to the negative control group (p<0.05), with the lowest levels observed in the 50% concentration group. There was no significant difference between the treatment groups and the healthy control group (p>0.05). Conclusion: Apium graveolens microemulsion-gel effectively reduces GCF calprotectin levels in chronic periodontitis model, indicating an anti-inflammatory effect.

Abstract

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a common congenital defect in craniofacial. The patient with  CLP experiences difficulty in breastfeeding which can affect their nutritional status. The presurgical nasoalveolar molding (PNAM) is a device used to overcome this problem. This case report aims to describe the pre-surgical treatment using PNAM with a Hotz-Kogo modification design.  This case report presented a two-week-old infant who had unilateral CLP. The alar base widened, the pro-labium and columella were shortened on one side and tilted towards the non-cleft side, and the minor segment of the maxilla was hypoplastic and retroposition. This patient experienced difficulty in breastfeeding and will be treated with PNAM with ekstra oral strapping and nasal stent. The PNAM was adjusted regularly. After using PNAM, the patient had a good sucking reflex and was easy to breastfeed, the position of the premaxilla was corrected, and the nasal morphology was more symmetrical before labioplasty. The presurgical PNAM is a device that functions as a feeding aid to help the baby get good nutrition and also as a pre-surgical treatment to reduce the severity of oronasal deformity before surgery.
