Abstract

The goal of this study is to characterize students' computational thinking skills in problem-solving in terms of their degree of metacognition awareness. The study is descriptive and qualitative in nature. The participants were selected using purposive sampling, comprising of two students with reflective metacognitive awareness, two students with strategic metacognitive awareness, two students with aware metacognitive awareness, and two students with tacit metacognitive awareness. The data was collected through written tests and interviews and analyzed based on the computational thinking indicators. The findings reveal that the computational thinking abilities of students who use metacognitive awareness in problem-solving are abstraction, pattern recognition, and decomposition. Furthermore, students with strategic metacognitive awareness exhibit proficiency in abstraction and pattern recognition. Additionally, students who use metacognition awareness through abstraction or decomposition exhibit computational thinking abilities when solving problems. However, students with tacit metacognitive awareness do not meet the computational thinking indicators while solving problems.

Abstract

This meta-analysis study explores the effectiveness of technology-enhanced language learning in the context of English language teaching. Through a comprehensive review of relevant literature, various research studies were examined to gain insights into the impact and potential of technology in language learning. The findings highlight that the use of new technologies positively contributes to learners' language learning skills and enhances their overall proficiency. Mobile learning and ICT tools have been identified as effective resources that facilitate English language learning by providing accessible and efficient learning environments. Additionally, the research indicates that technology-supported language learning is as effective as learning with human teachers, indicating the potential of technology to offer personalized and tailored learning experiences. However, it is crucial to provide teachers with proper training and support to confidently integrate technology into their teaching practices. Educational institutions should offer comprehensive training programs and allocate sufficient time for teachers to enhance their technological skills and confidently utilize educational technologies. These findings underscore the importance of technology in enhancing language learning outcomes and emphasize the need for ongoing support and professional development for teachers in integrating technology into language teaching.

Abstract

The implementation of mathematics learning activities in schools often faces several obstacles. One of these obstacles is the low motivation to learn mathematics owned by students. Various things cause low motivation to learn mathematics, ranging from incompetent teachers, inadequate learning facilities and infrastructure, mathematical anxiety owned by students, and an unsupportive learning environment. Low learning motivation will result in low learning outcomes obtained by students. Counseling guidance is one of the solutions used to overcome the problem of low student motivation to learn mathematics. By using the literature review research method, this study aims to determine the increase in students' mathematics learning motivation if given counseling guidance. Articles were collected and selected by utilizing existing search engines. Inclusion criteria in this process include counseling guidance to increase motivation to learn mathematics, research on junior high school students, and conducted in Indonesia between 2013 and 2023. The results showed that by using counseling guidance, there was an increase in students' motivation to learn mathematics

Abstract

Vocabulary is a core component of languages and the basic for how the learners speak, listen, read and write. Vocabulary mastery is the ability to use the words in conducting the communication and understandable the meaning of the words or phrases in English. 36 students of class XI-MIPA1 of SMA Negeri 3 Gunungsitoli faced problem in learning vocabulary particularly to obtain and absorb the meaning of new words. To solve the problem, the researcher implemented Guessing Game which the main procedure was asked the students to guess the new word from the explanation of the word itself. To achieve the purpose, the researcher conducted CAR Method and it was applied into two cycles. Each cycle consisted of some phases such as planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instruments used by the researcher to collect the data were observation sheet, field notes and evaluation sheet. In Cycle I, it showed that some of the students were still unable to comprehend the text. However, the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary was increased in Cycle II where the average of the students’ value was 90.33. Therefore, based on the average for the students’ value in the two cycles, it can be categorized in very good level. Hence, Guessing Game can increase the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary.
