Abstract

This study addresses the gap between 21st-century multiliteracy demands and the limited integration of local wisdom in Indonesian language learning at the elementary level. It aims to formulate a conceptual model of multiliteracy-based local wisdom through a philosophical approach. A qualitative literature review was conducted on 25 scholarly sources (2020–2026), analyzed thematically across ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. The findings reveal that multiliteracy expands literacy into multimodal and critical domains, while local wisdom strengthens contextual relevance and value internalization. The novelty lies in a philosophical synthesis that reconstructs Indonesian language learning as an integrative paradigm bridging global literacy and local identity. This integration leads to contextual, reflective, and transformative learning.

Abstract

Descriptive writing in Phase D requires students to observe objects, select relevant details, and organize ideas coherently. In practice, the teaching materials available in schools remain fragmented across textbooks, worksheets, slides, and sample texts, and therefore do not form a single sequence that guides students through the writing process. This study maps teachers' and students' needs for Google Sites-based interactive teaching materials as the basis for subsequent product development. It was designed as a preliminary needs analysis situated in the Analyze phase of the ADDIE model, employing a descriptive qualitative approach supported by a quantitative survey. Data were gathered through questionnaires completed by 177 seventh-grade students and eight Indonesian language teachers across ten public and private junior secondary schools and madrasahs in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, supplemented by document analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, with source and method triangulation. The findings reveal a paradox of need: most students and teachers rated their learning resources as appropriate (90.4% and 87.5%), yet only some actually used materials designed specifically for writing (69.5% and 62.5%), while open-ended responses uncovered concrete writing difficulties among 81.9% of the students. The availability of learning resources therefore does not amount to the availability of tools that guide the writing process. The most prominent need concerns explicit step-by-step writing guidance and visual support as observational stimuli rather than attractive presentation. The novelty of this study lies in formulating an empirically grounded needs framework, integrated, sequential, multimodal, and contextual, that positions Google Sites as an organizer of the writing process rather than a repository of materials.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ motivation and participation in learning to write explanatory texts in Phase C at SDN Karangjaya II. This condition was influenced by the use of conventional learning methods that did not actively engage students and did not optimally utilize digital media. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the gamification method using Canva media in learning to write explanatory texts, to analyze its effect on students’ writing skills, and to determine the improvement of students’ motivation and participation after the implementation of the method. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study consisted of all Phase C students at SDN Karangjaya II. The sample included one class as the experimental group, which received treatment through the gamification method using Canva media, and one class as the control group, which was taught using the expository method. The data was collected using explanatory text writing skill tests (pre-test and post-test), questionnaires on students’ motivation and participation, and documentation and analysed using SPSS 25. The result of the study indicated that the significance value is less than 0.05, meaning that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the gamification method using Canva media has a significant effect on students’ ability to write explanatory texts. In addition, the gamification method using Canva media is proven to improve students’ motivation and participation in learning to write explanatory texts in Phase C at SDN Karangjaya II.

Abstract

The low language literacy skills of elementary school students in Indonesia remain a chronic problem that conventional policies have failed to resolve. Previous studies have tended to focus on the technical aspects of reading without considering the local cultural context that is closely tied to children’s daily lives. This article aims to examine the concepts, implementation, impacts, challenges, and strategies for strengthening language literacy based on local culture in elementary schools. The research employs a qualitative approach using library research. The data sources consist of 22 literature sources, including journal articles, conference proceedings, books, theses, and policy documents published over the past ten years (2016–2026) that discuss language literacy and local culture in elementary schools, analyzed using content analysis techniques. The research findings indicate that local culture-based language literacy in elementary schools enhances students’ reading motivation, text comprehension, cultural pride, and critical thinking. Its implementation involves the use of folktales, traditional games, and digital media rooted in local wisdom. The main challenges are the limited availability of engaging local reading materials, a lack of teacher training, and difficulties faced by bilingual students. The study’s conclusion emphasizes that this approach requires synergy among teachers, parents, the community, and policies grounded in local wisdom. The novelty of this research lies in its cross-regional, cross-grade-level, and cross-media synthesis, an integrated approach not previously undertaken by prior studies.

Abstract

The Pujan Kasanga ritual is a cultural heritage of the Tengger community that is rich in food symbolism and theological values. This study focuses on strengthening the meaning of cosmo-gastronomic constructions in Pujan Kasanga offerings through the perspective of Tri Hita Karana and their relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with key informants in Ngadiwono, Tosari, and Mororejo Villages. The data analysis process was conducted through stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing based on the theory of cultural symbolism. The findings reveal that the Juadah Merah-Putih offering and Ayam Pancawarna represent spiritual manifestations (Parahyangan) that support cultural preservation in line with SDG 11. The use of Juadah Kirik and Pasung-Pepes symbolizes the management of social harmony and gender equality (Pawongan), which aligns with SDG 16 and SDG 5. The utilization of local white corn, Tamping, and Beboreh reflects food sovereignty and ecological ethics (Palemahan), corresponding with SDG 2 and SDG 15. This study concludes that Pujan Kasanga functions as a visionary social technology in harmonizing spirituality, social stability, and environmental sustainability to achieve sustainable development.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the narrative pattern of the downfall of the character Anis in Carita Anis through an analysis of its story structure. This research is qualitative in nature, employing a descriptive-analytical method through the narratological structuralism approach of Vladimir Propp. The data consist of textual excerpts depicting the narrative of a character’s decline in faith, sourced from the Carita Anis manuscript collection of the Khastara Division, National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. The analysis is conducted by mapping action functions and the distribution of character roles to examine causal relationships and the progression of the narrative. The results indicate that Carita Anis constructs a systematic and progressive scheme of narrative functions with the pattern (α), (J), (a), (B), (C), (↑), (γ), (δ), (D), (F), (K), (δ), (C), (θ), (ξ), (Ex), (U). This scheme demonstrates that the character’s loss of faith unfolds gradually, beginning with material deprivation, triggered by domestic conflict, reinforced by violations of religious prohibitions, and ultimately culminating in divine punishment. This structure underscores the function of Carita Anis as a didactic religious narrative that conveys moral and theological messages through its structural storytelling mechanism. Abstract

This study examines the meaning of the verb "to catch fish" in the Banjarese language. It uses the concept of natural semantic metalanguage by Wierzbicka (1997) with the explication analysis technique. Explication is the breakdown of a text whose initial meaning seems implicit to make it explicit. This study explores how cultures from different community groups can have vocabulary with almost similar meanings. This study uses qualitative methods to achieve the elaboration of the meaning of the verbs that appear. The focus of this study is to describe and analyze the meaning of a language using semantic primes so that its basic meaning can be known. The findings show that there are a number of verbs from the Banjarese language that apparently have similar meanings to verbs from other languages. These activity verbs are rooted in the original meaning of doing and happening, both of which are core concepts that describe other meanings. This shows that a language starts from a universal concept. This study also shows that the meaning of verbs that were previously universal can be detailed into various variations with various categories depending on several elements such as the tools used and the location of the activity.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the representation of social problems in Mamuju society in local online and offline news media through Algirdas Julius Greimas's narratological structural approach. The research focuses on mapping actant schemes and analyzing functional models to uncover role relationships, event flows, and the construction of meaning in news reports. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a narrative analysis design, using data in the form of purposively selected news texts. Data collection was conducted through documentation and literature review, while analysis included identifying narrative units, mapping actants, analyzing functional models, and interpreting social contexts. The results show that the media tends to position certain actors as dominant subjects, while vulnerable groups are affected. The narrative pattern generally moves from the initial situation, through conflict, to a resolution that is not always complete. This study confirms that Greimas's approach is effective in uncovering the structure of meaning and the construction of social reality in news texts.

Abstract

This study aims to improve poetry writing skills in Grade X students of SMK YPK Purwakarta through the use of event image media. The primary problem underlying this research was the students' low ability to find ideas, determine themes, and choose appropriate diction, as evidenced by an initial average score of 64.2 (below the minimum mastery criteria/KKM). The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, encompassing planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. The results showed a significant improvement in each cycle. In Cycle I, the students' average score increased to 73 with a success rate of 63%. In Cycle II, the average score rose sharply to 86.43 with a success rate reaching 97%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of event image media is effective in improving the quality of both the process and results of poetry writing instruction, as well as enhancing student activity and motivation in the classroom. Keywords: Writing Skills, Poetry, Event Image Media, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

Using conceptual metaphors in political speeches can arguably be powerful because speakers need to deliver both the message and the ideological effect to attract the audience’s attention. The study aims to examine the use of metaphors in the first political speech delivered by President Prabowo Subianto during the Plenary Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2024. This qualitative study draws on Critical Discourse Analysis and Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The speech video and its transcript posted on the KOMPAS.TV YouTube channel were chosen as data sources. Four domains of metaphor and four cases of target domain conceptualization were found. These metaphors were conceptualized using several source domains, the most frequent of which is war and physical struggle applied to domestic issues. The findings also suggest that the military characteristics strongly attached to Prabowo Subianto did not produce an aggressive or confrontational rhetorical style. Instead, the source domain of "War" was subtly shifted into metaphors of domestic struggle, economic defense, and bureaucratic cleansing. Results show that the speaker seems to have used the source domains carefully, especially in the case of images containing social and financial elements. This research also demonstrates that the metaphors function as a political communication tool to simplify complex policy ideas into an emergency logic easily understood by the public.
