Abstract

This study examined and compared the efficiency level of conventional and Islamic rural banks. The analytical tool used was data envelopment analysis with the variable return scale approach. Furthermore, the input variables consist of total assets, third party funds, and costs. Meanwhile, the total financing and profit are the output variables from 2012 to 2019 for 15 rural banks in Aceh. The results showed conventional rural banks are more efficient than sharia. Therefore, Sharia banks need to engage in better socialization to the public. This is because 2021 is the beginning of qanun (law) of Islamic financial institutions enactment, which obliges change in shape to the sharia pattern. Also, universities are expected to open a study program on sharia bank as a rudiment for human resources in the future. Therefore, the study to compare conventional and sharia rural bank per province in Indonesia is important.

Abstract

Indigenous peoples are groups of people who live with traditional values and norms as guidelines in their daily life. The system of tools and equipment for life is still simple, kinship is still very close, religion and art form a complete unity in building harmony with nature, It turns out that being faced with a phenomenon of modernity that was born as a conqueror with its supporting tools such as the capitalist economy, industrialization, exploitation of natural resources, supervision of the dominant group, rationalization of values and secularization have moved quickly to attack and dominate the Raja Ampat indigenous peoples. This study aimed to explore the conditions, forms and impacts of modernity power in the Raja Ampat traditional community. Furthermore, the research employed a qualitative case study method with an ethnographic approach in Waisai, Raja Ampat Regency. The technique of determining informants was carried out purposively by collecting primary data and secondary data. The research data collected were analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The data presentation was done in a descriptive qualitative manner with scientific variety language. The results show cultural heterogenization forms including an existing capitalist economy with several employment opportunities, industrialization in fisheries and tourism, massive natural resource exploitation, supervision of dominant groups like the Raja Ampat bureaucracy, values rationalization and secularism without territorial and customary boundaries. However, this is also problematic because the products of modernity mediate life demands to move quickly, precisely, effectively and efficiently.

Abstract

Continuous development of the Indonesian agri-food retail in the past decades has shown an evolutionary way on how the buyer and seller build their interaction during the exchange transaction process. It shows the significance of beneficial buyer-seller relationships in the shifting from traditional food retailing model to modern food retailing model, including in developing economy context. The study aims to investigate the factors affecting the buyer-seller relationship concept to access the modern market from the farmer producer perspective in the setting of an emerging market. This study surveyed 75 respondents of vegetable farmer group members located in a vegetable cluster in West Java, Indonesia. An explanatory quantitative method with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA)was used for the data analysis. The findings verified four primary factors that can explain the B2B buyer-seller relationship of farmers deciding to partner with modern retailers such as supermarkets, which consists of trust, loyalty, relationship commitment, and business communication. The findings propose a further understanding related to the factors that influence the buyer-seller inter-relationships in the B2B context of the agriculture sector.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed hundreds of thousands of human lives in various parts of the world. As an authoritative body, the World Health Organization (henceforth WHO) has made efforts to prevent the Covid-19 outbreak by releasing appealing messages through posters. The study aims to to explore the types of linguistic elements used in the WHO posters and to uncover the meanings of the elements to express the messages. The study employed descriptive qualitative research using a semio-pragmatic analysis framework. The data were presented in the form of linguistic elements in posters themed #HealthyAtHome, taken from the World Health Organization’s official website. The study found two linguistic elements as poster-forming elements, namely visual and verbal elements. Through icons, indexes, and symbols, visual elements reinforce the meaning of the poster’s theme so that it is easily understood by readers. Meanwhile, verbal elements are realized by the directive speech to facilitate understanding of the intended message as well as indirective speech to consider politeness in delivering the messages. The implication of this study is to increase public knowledge and awareness on the best health practices that can be performed at home during the pandemic.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Border area as a front line of a country needs special attention from the government of that country. Most of the domestic problems experienced by a country come from the border. Human and drugs trafficking, also illegal timber transactions are examples of problems that still occur in Indonesia nowadays especially located in Kepulauan Riau Province. This study aims to describe the Integrated Border Management based on European Commission carried out in Indonesia, especially at the country border in Kepulauan Riau Province, Indonesia. By using the post-positivistic paradigm, this study uses interviews and documentation as data collection techniques. Interviews were conducted to actors, both central and regional, such as the Deputy for Border Management (BNPP-RI), the Head of the BNPP Planning and Cooperation Bureau, the Head of the Riau Islands Province Government Bureau and his staff, the Head of Local Development Planning Agency of Batam City, Natuna Regency. The results showed that the state border managers at the central, provincial, and regency/city governments have different institutions which result in differences in personnel procedures, finances, and resource allocation. The concept of Integrated border management needs to be adjusted to the concept considering the geographical characteristics of Indonesia, which has sea and land borders.
