Abstract

Pasang ri Kajang is a philosophy of life embraced by the Ammatoa Kajang indigenous community in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi. This concept not only governs social and cultural aspects but also serves as a guideline for maintaining balance between humans and nature. This study employs a qualitative research method with an ethnographic approach to explore the meaning and practice of Pasang ri Kajang in the daily lives of the Kajang people. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, and analysis of relevant documents and literature. The findings reveal that Pasang ri Kajang plays a crucial role in shaping collective identity, customary legal systems, and environmental sustainability. Values such as simplicity, honesty, and harmony with nature form the core of this philosophy. This study provides insight into how traditional value systems persist amid modernization and their relevance in development planning based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the potential of the philological collection at the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Museum as a learning resource for history education at the high school level and to explain strategies for its utilization in history learning based on the 2013 Curriculum. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation interviews and documentation and data analysis following the Miles and Huberman model. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The findings indicate that the museum’s philological collection such as the fifteenth-century daluang Qur’an manuscript and the historical manuscript of the Buton Kingdom holds significant historical and cultural value and aligns with the core competencies in the curriculum. Its implementation in learning through a Project Based Learning model fosters students’ historical thinking and character development. These findings contribute academically to the development of manuscript-based local history learning resources and carry practical implications for cultural preservation through education. These results highlight the importance of integrating philological collections as educational tools that support the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This research examined the dynamics of industrialization and its social impact on the inhabitants of the Regentschap Pemalang during the Dutch colonial period. Historical studies of industry still tend to focus on urban areas as the locus of research due to their role as industrial centers. However, industrialization also occurred in hinterland areas, including Regentschap Pemalang, which has so far received little scholarly attention. The method used in this research was the historical method. The findings showed that the Agrarian Law of 1870 and the Ethical Policy encouraged industrialization in the Dutch East Indies, reaching even rural or hinterland areas. Industrialization in Regentschap Pemalang, a hinterland region, is evidenced by the establishment of factories in rural areas located along the coast and in the highlands on the northern slopes of Mount Slamet. The development of industrialization had a broad impact on the lives of the people of Regentschap Pemalang, including increasingly intensive interactions between the indigenous population and Europeans, the formation of a capitalistic social structure, and the emergence of political awareness and a sense of nationalism among laborers.

Abstract

The Sapu Angin Inscription is a sima inscription issued by Krtajaya before he ascended the throne. This study discusses the content and meaning of the Sapu Angin Inscription, supported by evidence indicating that Krtajaya is the same person as the subsequent king, Śrī Mahārāja Śrī Śarwweśwara Triwikramāwatārānindita Śṛnggalañchana Digjayotunggadewanāma. The study also explores the historical background of the inscription’s issuance, which is closely related to Krtajaya’s process of gaining legitimacy. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a historical approach. The findings reveal that the Sapu Angin Inscription indeed belongs to Krtajaya, who is also known by the full royal title Śrī Mahārāja Śrī Śarwweśwara Triwikramāwatārānindita Śṛnggalañchana Digjayotunggadewanāma. Furthermore, the Sapu Angin Inscription functioned as a political strategy and a form of gradual legitimization for Krtajaya prior to his official coronation.

Abstract

The Dutch established a health facility in 1917 called the Militaire Hospital. After the Dutch government recognized Indonesia's sovereignty, the hospital was transferred to the Indonesian government and began operating under the direct management of the military. The hospital's name was changed multiple times due to changes in the military, particularly in the Army, until it was officially named Pelamonia Hospital. This paper examines the development of military health institutions and their dual role in interacting with civil society. This research uses the historical method to reconstruct, explain, and understand past events. The development of this hospital began in 1986 with the inauguration of a new four-story main building, which was the first physical development carried out by Pelamonia Hospital. From 1986 to 2012, the hospital underwent a series of construction projects to address the escalating demand for patient care, attributable to an increase in both military and civilian patients. This hospital plays a dual role in providing health services. In addition to its main task of providing health services for the military, it also opens health services to the general public. Pelamonia Hospital has a positive impact on both the military and the general public, which can be seen from various perspectives, including health, social, economic, and educational ones.

Abstract

The arrival of Islam in Aceh initiated a process of Islamization that influenced nearly all aspects of life, including arts and culture. One significant impact was the adoption of the Malay Arabic script (harah Jawoe) for writing in Malay and Acehnese, leading to the development of local Islamic literary traditions such as hikayat, tambeh, and nazam. This study aims to examine the role and position of Tambeh Tujoh Blah 17 within Aceh’s Islamic literary heritage, as well as its connection to the Islamization process and the formation of local Islamic identity. The research employs philological methods to trace the origins, manuscript variants, and linguistic characteristics of the text, combined with reception analysis to understand its acceptance and usage in the community. The findings reveal that Tambeh Tujoh Blah 17 contains teachings on faith (aqidah), jurisprudence (fiqh), and ethics (akhlaq), while serving as a medium for internalizing Islamic values into Acehnese socio-cultural life. The text was studied in dayah, meunasah, and through oral transmission, becoming an integral part of traditional Islamic education. This study underscores the tambeh’s role as an effective medium of Islamic propagation and as a reflection of local Islamic identity. It contributes to the preservation of Aceh’s intellectual heritage and enhances understanding of Islamization dynamics through literature.

Abstract

Education carries an important mission in shaping and developing the students’ ability to play an active role in unravelling the conflict threads of cultural community life. This article seeks to determine the development carried out by SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta in accommodating various cultures and interests in society. This article uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The result shows that SMA BOPKRI 2 Yogyakarta which builds its branding as an Indonesia Multicultural School (SMI) appears in the learning and life processes of students in a school environment which is based on multicultural elements. Educational programs developed specifically are formulated to form new understandings and foster toleranci in students based on diversity they have. The concept of education is implemented practically and is oriented towards the diversity of Indonesia’s cultural community as a whole. Therefore, the multicultrual-based educational paradigm has the right place if it is applied to a school environment with a higher level of heterogeneity.

Abstract

Landscapes of Ancient East Javanese Hindu-Buddhist religious sites were not built anywhere, their position determined by people perspective in the 11th to 15th century. The ancient East Javanese religious sites were built on the slopes of hills. This paper reveals the main trait of landscape archaeology approach in archaeology to the rock-cut architecture, i.e. cave temples and hermitages in the ancient Javanese period (11th up to 15th centuries). Landscape Archaeology provides valuable clues about how ancient Javanese people saw the landscape around them, and how it was developed and created. It confirms the importance of space based on Hindu-Buddhist cosmological concept which determined the ritual landscape. This cosmological space also reveals the division of slopes based on the level of the places according to Triloka concept which explains lower world (Bhurloka), middle world (Bhuvarloka), and upper world (Svarloka). This thesis also offers a reflection on the structure of the religious places and its relations with conceptualized space, showing the influence of Hindu-Indian thought, as well as its limits.

Abstract

Digital transformation has driven museums to incorporate diverse interpretive media, including QR codes, audioguides, and immersive technologies, renewing questions about the contemporary relevance of museum guides. This article examines the role of guides in the digital era through participatory observation in three museums with distinct guiding systems: Lokananta (mandatory guided introduction), Museum Sonobudoyo (optional guidance), and Museum Ullen Sentalu (full guidance through Digital Free Tourism). Findings indicate that while digital technologies expand informational access and support autonomous exploration, they do not replicate the human interaction, narrative depth, and interpretive mediation provided by guides. Guides remain essential for managing visit rhythm, offering spatial orientation, and safeguarding collections. Visitor experience is further shaped by the guide’s competence and the potential for narrative bias. The study concludes that guides and digital technologies operate complementarily in contemporary museum practice, with their effectiveness contingent on each museum’s characteristics and interpretive needs.
