Abstract

Hematology analyzers are used in almost all clinical laboratories for CBC testing. CBC test results are crucial, as they play a significant role in establishing diagnoses and determining the appropriate therapy for patients. This study aims to analyze the effect of anticoagulant type, storage temperature, and delay time on the results of erythrocyte, leukocyte, and thrombocyte counts in whole blood samples. The study design employed was a laboratory experiment with a total of 64 samples, which were subjected to a combination of treatments involving anticoagulant type (Vacutainer and conventional), storage temperature (room temperature and refrigerator), and delay time for testing (0, 6, 12, and 24 hours). The examination was conducted using a hematology analyzer, and data analysis was performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test and the post hoc Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that there was no significant effect of the three factors on the number of erythrocytes and leukocytes. However, the delay time significantly affected the platelet count (p=0.004), with significant differences observed between 6 hours and 24 hours, and between 12 hours and 24 hours. The delay in blood examination with K3EDTA and Na2EDTA affects the morphology of erythrocytes and leukocytes. Abnormal changes occur after 6, 12, and 24 hours of storage. The gold standard is a fresh whole blood sample collected in a K3EDTA vacutainer tube with the correct volume and analyzed within a maximum of 2 hours at room temperature.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common non-communicable diseases (NCDs) whose prevalence continues to increase and has become a leading cause of death in Indonesia. To address this issue, the government, through BPJS Kesehatan, launched the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis), which is implemented in first-level health facilities, such as health centers. The success of this program depends greatly on patient satisfaction with the services provided. This study aims to identify factors associated with the satisfaction of patients with hypertension who use Prolanis services at the Pulau Panggung Health Center. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was applied, involving 131 hypertensive patients registered as Prolanis participants. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that referenced the five dimensions of service quality outlined in the SERVQUAL model: reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test to examine the relationship between service quality dimensions and patient satisfaction. The findings revealed that all five dimensions of service quality had a significant association with patient satisfaction (p≤0.05). Among them, the tangible evidence dimension was identified as the most dominant factor influencing satisfaction. In conclusion, Prolanis' service quality plays a crucial role in determining patient satisfaction. Therefore, improving the quality of services, particularly in tangible aspects such as facility cleanliness, comfort, availability of medical equipment, completeness of infrastructure, and the professional appearance of healthcare workers, is expected to enhance the effectiveness of Prolanis implementation at health centers.

Abstract

The quality of health services plays a crucial role in determining patient satisfaction. During the Covid-19 pandemic, dental services faced additional challenges due to limited access and the risk of infection, which could affect patient satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the relationship between dental service quality and patient satisfaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. A correlational analytic design was applied with a purposive sample of 40 patients who visited the dental polyclinic. Data were collected using a service quality questionnaire that covered five dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) and the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ-18), which assessed seven aspects of satisfaction. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test. Results showed that service quality was perceived as low in the tangible dimension (27%), but high in responsiveness (47.5%), assurance (49%), and empathy (48%). Patient satisfaction was mostly reported as being generally satisfied in terms of technical quality (47.5%), interpersonal manner (47.5%), financial aspects (46.2%), communication (40%), and time with the doctor (52.5%), while accessibility was rated as neutral (38.75%). Statistical analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between service quality and patient satisfaction (r=0.772; p<0.05). Dental service quality has a significant impact on patient satisfaction, with the tangible dimension requiring further improvement. It is recommended that healthcare providers enhance facility cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and overall comfort to better meet patient expectations. Future research should include larger samples and different settings to allow broader generalization.

Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae can cause serious infections. The use of antibiotics is often an option in treating infections, but bacteria can adapt by forming biofilms. Therefore, the search for alternative antibiofilms from natural sources is important. One potential plant is karamunting leaves (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (aiton) hassk). This study aims to describe the potential of the ethanol extract of karamunting leaf as an antibiofilm against Klebsiella pneumoniae. This study is an in vitro descriptive laboratory test. A thick ethanol extract of karamunting leaves was then prepared in three concentration variations: 62.5µg/mL, 125µg/mL, and 250µg/mL. The positive control used was meropenem, and the negative control used was DMSO. The parameter measured for the inhibition and eradication test was biofilm thickness, which was read using a 590nm Microplate reader. In this study, the percentage of inhibition in the three concentrations was 90.65% at a concentration of 250 µg/ml, 86.69% at a concentration of 125µg/ml, and 87.22% at a concentration of 62.5µg/ml. During the eradication test, the percentages obtained were -10.67% at a concentration of 250µg/ml, 3.58% at a concentration of 125µg/ml, and 68.23% at a concentration of 62.5µg/ml. The ethanolic extract of karamunting leaves demonstrates good biofilm inhibitory activity against Klebsiella pneumonia at all tested concentrations. At a concentration of 62.5µg/ml, the extract exhibits good biofilm eradication activity, while at 125µg/ml and in the positive control, it shows poor activity. Interestingly, at a concentration of 250µg/ml, the extract acts as a biofilm promoter, enhancing biofilm formation.

Abstract

TikTok is widely used for eating-related content. One type of content uploaded by many content creators or influencers on TikTok is "What I Eat in A Day". There is a complex relationship between social media use and dietary habits, showing that social media can influence food choices and contribute to unhealthy eating patterns. This study aims to analyse the nutritional content of "What I Eat in a Day" videos on TikTok, examining the characteristics of content creators and evaluating their video dietary contents over the past three months from a nutritional perspective. This study uses a content analysis approach involved the collection and analysis of Indonesian TikTok "What I Eat in a Day" videos from February to May 2024. The nutritional variables assessed included fruit and vegetable consumption, calorie counting, weight monitoring, types of diets, and adherence to the "Isi Piringku" guidelines. The analysis revealed that less than 70% of content creators included fruits in their diet, with only half of them consuming vegetables. None of the videos adhered to the "Isi Piringku" dietary guidelines. These findings highlight a significant gap in promoting balanced diets among popular TikTok content. The rising trend of "What I Eat in a Day" videos on TikTok necessitates further research into their potential impact on viewers' dietary habits. Future studies should investigate how exposure to these videos influences audience behaviour and nutritional choices. Understanding this dynamic can inform public health strategies to promote healthier eating habits through digital media platforms.

Abstract

Fatigue is one of the most common and significant side effects experienced by children undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. This condition not only affects the child's physical state but also significantly impacts their overall quality of life. However, the assessment of fatigue levels in pediatric patients often remains a low priority in clinical services. This study aimed to describe the level of fatigue among pediatric cancer patients after chemotherapy at the Seruni Polyclinic, Arifin Achmad Regional General Hospital, Riau Province. This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving 59 children diagnosed with cancer, having received chemotherapy more than once, aged 1–15 years, and willing to participate in the study. The instrument used was the Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology–Allen (FOA-A) questionnaire, which has been validated (r=0.509–0.884) and tested for reliability (r=0.948). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented in frequency distribution tables. The results showed that most respondents were in the preschool age group (33.9%) and male (52.5%). The most common type of cancer was leukemia (66.1%). A total of 64.4% of respondents had undergone 4–6 cycles of chemotherapy, and 61% had received chemotherapy for ≥6 months. Fatigue levels indicated that 62.7% of respondents experienced fatigue. The majority of pediatric cancer patients post-chemotherapy experienced fatigue. These findings emphasize the importance of regular fatigue assessments and the need for structured nursing interventions to reduce its negative impact on children’s quality of life.

Abstract

Malaria is a significant public health problem in various regions, especially in developing countries. Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) is a tribe that lives in the jungle by foraging for forest products. SAD always lives in the forest and carries out activities such as hunting and living in the wilderness or in the garden. This research aims to highlight the importance of strengthening the role of SAD in malaria control efforts through a sustainable and integrated approach in public health programs. This research method is an observational type with an ecological study method, a cross-sectional design was carried out by involving interviews and observational, data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test, this study as a population is the community living in the Senami forest of Jebak village as many as 40 people as a sample and the total population, this study evaluated knowledge, attitudes, and practices of malaria control. The results show that SAD has a varied understanding of malaria, with most showing high concern for control efforts. The active involvement of SAD in counseling and the implementation of preventive practices, such as the use of mosquito nets and antimalarial drugs, has increased awareness and reduced the prevalence of this disease. However, challenges such as limited access to health resources and environmental changes that affect malaria vectors remain obstacles that must be overcome.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and often associated with hypercholesterolemia. Garlic (Allium sativum Linn.), rich in bioactive compounds such as allicin, saponins, and flavonoids, has been widely reported to possess lipid- and glucose-lowering properties. This study aimed to evaluate the hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic effects of garlic extract in Wistar rats subjected to a high-fat diet and streptozotocin (STZ) induction. A laboratory experimental design with a post-test-only control group was employed. For cholesterol assessment, hypercholesterolemic rats were administered garlic extract at doses of 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20g/head/day, while diabetic rats induced with STZ received doses of 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg body weight per day, with corresponding control groups. Garlic extract significantly reduced mean cholesterol levels in a dose-dependent manner (130.60mg/dL, 121.80mg/dL, and 112.00mg/dL for 0.05, 0.10, and 0.20g/head/day, respectively). In contrast, mean blood glucose levels showed a marginal decrease with increasing doses (282.80 mg/dL, 271.20mg/dL, and 269.27mg/dL at 100, 250, and 500mg/kgBW/day, respectively). However, no statistically significant differences were observed among groups (p=0.706, one-way ANOVA). These findings suggest that garlic extract exhibits a potent cholesterol-lowering effect in hypercholesterolemic rats but has a limited impact on blood glucose reduction under the tested conditions. Further studies are warranted to determine the optimal dosage and underlying mechanisms of action.

Abstract

Hypertension is caused by a variety of factors, including an unhealthy lifestyle such as a poor diet (high in salt, fat, and sugar), lack of physical activity, obesity, and smoking and drinking habits. Despite extensive global and national research on the link between fast and junk food consumption and hypertension, there is a notable lack of localized studies in regions like Bengkulu. The rising fast food intake and hypertension prevalence in these areas underscore the urgent need for context-specific evidence to support targeted public health interventions. This study aims to determine the relationship between fast food and junk food consumption habits and the incidence of hypertension in adults with a control case design. A total of 30 case groups and 60 control groups. Data collection was carried out using instruments such as respondent identity forms, informed consent sheets, the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and blood pressure measuring devices (digital sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, and observation sheets). Data analysis using the Chi-Square Test and multivariate logistic regression. The results of the bivariate analysis show that the habit of eating fast food often had a risk of 28.5 times, and the habit of eating junk food often had a risk of experiencing hypertension in adults 26.0 times. The results of the multivariate analysis showed a significant correlation between fast food consumption (p-value <0.0001; OR=23,709) and junk food (p-value <0.0001; OR=16,687) with the incidence of hypertension after controlling for the age factor. It is necessary to increase efforts in prevention, early detection, treatment, and education.
