Abstract

Stunting remains a significant nutritional concern for the Indonesian government due to its impact on human resource quality. The Puskesmas (Community Health Centre) in Duren Sawit Subdistrict has experienced an increase in the proportion of stunting cases, rising from 9.06% to 10.5% over the last three months. Objective: This study aims to identify family factors associated with stunting in children aged 12-59 months in the Puskesmas of Duren Sawit Subdistrict for 2023. This research adopts a case-control study design with 41 cases and 41 controls. Cases were identified based on a compilation of data on stunted children at the health center, while controls were children without a stunting diagnosis. Sampling was conducted using the simple random sampling method. Data collection involved direct interviews with the mothers of the children and a review of medical documents. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. Family income with less than minimum wage has the highest PR value compared to other variables, namely 9.68 (95% CI 2.48- 37.78), so it can be concluded that family income with less than minimum wage is the variable that most influences stunting. The recommendation in this study is that cooperation between the Duren Sawit Subdistrict Health Center and the local government, involving community leaders and an interactive approach, is necessary to provide education on nutrition and family financial management for the effectiveness of stunting prevention.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease and is a major chronic and long-term health problem in society. If uncontrolled, it tends to worsen due to complications. Diabetes mellitus requires long-term treatment. This study aims to determine the factors that affect adherence to pharmacological treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in farmers. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 165 farmers who were selected by purposive sampling. This study was conducted from May to June 2024 in the working area of Sukadamai Community Health Center, Natar, South Lampung, Indonesia. Data were collected based on questionnaires. The results showed that adherence to pharmacological treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus is directly related to age (b=-1.601; 95%CI=-3.260-0.583; p=0.059), self-motivation (b=2.500; 95%CI=0.856-4.144; p=0.003), duration of illness (b=1.587; 95%CI=0.209-0.964; p=0.024), and family support (b=2.840; 95%CI=1.311-4.369; p=0.000). There is an indirect relationship between education and adherence through the knowledge variable (b=0.962; 95%CI=0.307-1.617; p=0.004). Indirectly, education is related to adherence through income (b=2.363; 95%CI=1.618-3.107; p=0.000), self-efficacy to adherence through self-motivation (b=0.261; 95%CI=-0.657-1.180; p=0.577), and family support through self-motivation (b=2.287; 95%CI=1.361-3.214; p= 0.000). Healthcare workers should repeatedly provide counseling on primary education materials, such as the importance of continuous control, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and other secondary prevention measures to prevent complications in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Hypertension is a disease whose initial cause is unknown, therefore hypertension is called a silent killer. Factors suspected of causing hypertension come from unhealthy lifestyles. In addition, gender is also a factor that affects blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle and gender and the incidence of hypertension. This study used a quantitative method, with a cross-sectional design. This population is based on research from a preliminary survey at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Hospital of 10,252 patients. A sample of 109 participants was obtained using a purposive sampling technique. Research data were collected using a lifestyle questionnaire to measure the level of the patient's lifestyle. Data analysis used univariate tests and bivariate chi-square tests. From the study results, a p-value of 0.012 (<0.05) was obtained, which means a relationship exists between lifestyle and the incidence of hypertension. For the gender variable, a p-value of 0.013 (<0.05) was obtained, which implies a relationship exists between gender and the incidence of hypertension. The majority of 86 participants (78.9%) had a moderate lifestyle category. This study also showed that women tend to be at risk of hypertension, namely 48 participants (44.0%) of 64 female participants suffered from hypertension. Lifestyle and gender are significantly related to the incidence of hypertension. Men and women need to increase their knowledge about healthy lifestyles to improve hypertension prevention.

Abstract

Stroke remains a leading cause of disability and death, particularly in village areas where access to health education and preventive services is limited. While physical activity is known to reduce stroke risk, structured, community-based prevention programs are rarely implemented or studied in village settings. This study evaluates the implementation of anti-stroke exercises for stroke prevention in a village in Magelang, Central Java. A qualitative descriptive approach was used. Data were collected through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with village residents, community health workers, and local leaders in three village villages where the anti-stroke exercise program had been introduced. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Participants reported increased awareness of stroke risk factors and the importance of physical activity. The exercise sessions were generally well-received and promoted social interaction among participants. Three key points for implementing anti-stroke exercises in rural areas aimed at preventing stroke were identified: early detection, education, and community participation. The program contributed to stroke prevention efforts by raising awareness and encouraging healthier lifestyles in village communities. Community engagement and leadership played crucial roles in the success of implementation. To strengthen the program, ongoing facilitator training, integration into broader public health strategies, and government support are needed. Regular monitoring and community feedback can help sustain and scale the initiative effectively.

Abstract

The incidence of premature rupture of membranes (PROM) is still one of the critical problems in obstetrics that increases maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. This study aims to investigate the relationship between anemia, parity, and chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the incidence of premature rupture of membranes (PROM) in the Independent Midwife Practice (PMB) setting at the Sukarame Health Center area, Bandar Lampung City. The study design used was cross-sectional. The subjects were 137 mothers giving birth in the PMB area of Sukarame Health Center, Bandar Lampung City in 2024. Data collection was carried out using primary data from interviews with mothers giving birth in PMB in the Sukarame Health Center area, Bandar Lampung City. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate data analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between parity and premature rupture of membranes (p-value: 0.637). However, there were significant relationships between anemia (p-value: 0.017) and CED (p-value: 0.029) and PROM in PMB. Interestingly, the results showed that PROM was more common in mothers without anemia and without CED. Although anemia and CED are conventionally considered risk factors for PROM, this study found a higher incidence of PROM among mothers without anemia and without CED. Therefore, antenatal care should not only focus on preventing anemia and CED but also on identifying other hidden risk factors such as infections, stress, and physical strain, even in seemingly healthy pregnancies.

Abstract

Mosquito control efforts have been done physically, chemically, and through environmental management. However, the use of synthetic chemical insecticides has various negative impacts. Therefore, plant-based alternatives are a solution that needs to be developed. This study explores the toxicological potential of Catharanthus roseus as a botanical bioinsecticide. This systematic review study takes data from the literature in the form of published articles obtained via the internet from Google Scholar, Semantic Sholar, Garuda, PubMed, and Science Direct databases. The subjects of the study were 12 articles that focused on using Catharanthus roseus as a larvicide. The selected journals were eligible based on the study of LC50, zero value, and No Observed Adverse (NOA) of Catharanthus roseus plant extract against mosquito larvae. The data are presented in tabular form. Several studies provided different results regarding LC50 and zero value, but only 1 study reported on NOA. Further research is needed to improve data consistency, especially on LC50 values and control effects, including against non-target organisms.

Abstract

Cases of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in Indonesia continue to increase. According to data from the Ministry of Health (2014), UTI cases reach 90–100 per 100,000 population annually. The incidence of UTI is mainly caused by bacterial infections, particularly Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. One of the medicinal plants with pharmacological potential is the connected leaf (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr.). This research aims to determine the effectiveness and impact of Gynura procumbens leaf extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% in inhibiting the growth of E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. This research employed an experimental and completely randomized design (CRD). The independent variables were the concentrations of Gynura procumbens extract, and the dependent variables were the UTI-causing bacteria (E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae). Each concentration treatment (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) was repeated six times. The results showed that the average inhibition zone for E. coli was 6.33 mm at 25%, 6.91 mm at 50%, 9.39 mm at 75%, and 13.24 mm at 100% concentration. For Klebsiella pneumoniae, the average inhibition zone was 6.56 mm at 25%, 7.53 mm at 50%, 12.50 mm at 75%, and 15.54 mm at 100%. One-way ANOVA analysis resulted in a p-value of 0.000, indicating that Gynura procumbens leaf extract significantly inhibits the growth of UTI-causing bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli).
