Abstract

The Islamic boarding school (pesantren) caregiver of Santri is a widely ignored issue in the management of Pesantren as an Islamic educational institution that requires Santri to live and participate in various daily activities. This study examines how the thoughts and ideas of pesantren relate to the parenting of santri based on the phenomenon in Pesantren Al-Ittifaqiyyah, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. By analyzing the conceptual problems of adolescent Santri's perspectives on pesantren parenting and communication built into the implementation of parenting in the pesantren, a parenting institution, Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with adolescent Santri living in Pesantren, caregivers in Pesantren, and leadership elements in Pesantren. Document searches and studies were also conducted, including reviewing archives, physical devices, conducting field observations, and participant observations. The results showed that the santri's views on parenting and its forms of communication in pesantren have a variety of dimensions in the parenting process in pesantren, including six dimensions, namely warmth, rejection, rules, conflict, freedom, support, and coercion, as well as the typical dimensions of pesantren, namely religion, independence, and administration. Communication is the key to establishing a parenting pattern that includes these dimensions when carrying out parenting in the pesantren environment.

Abstract

This article tends to analyze how Muslim women's activists, who are the members of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah and Fatayat NU in Kediri and Yogyakarta, build their digital literacy to prevent violence in social media. Mainly due to the digital divide between men and women, which causes imbalance and injustice when they access digital media. The method used in data collection was semi-ethnographic, in which the researcher participated in observing research objects when carrying out activities using digital technology, interviews, and documentation on 3 members of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah and Fatayat NU, both in Jogja and Kediri. The research findings show that what has been stigmatized to women so far is that they are powerless to master information and communication technology, which does not apply to members of Fatayat NU and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah. This research shows that women are also reliable in accessing the internet for the benefit of empowering women, especially KBGO issues. This research has provided a different understanding of the phenomenon of the massive use of internet-based technology by female activists

Abstract

The development and practice of journalism are mainly determined by the availability of information and communication technology. Internet-based technology has transformed all lines of journalism. Journalism convergence is not only a trend, but also a necessity in the contemporary media industry. There are three types of journalism convergence, namely newsroom, newsgathering, and content.  In newsroom convergence, journalists from different platforms work together in one news production room and carry out their tasks in accordance with their media. Newsgathering convergence requires journalists to multitask, while content convergence or news content means that news is displayed in the form of multimedia content that combines texts, images, audio and others. This study aims to describe and analyze the practice of journalism convergence in Media Group Network and Mahaka Media. Using a qualitative approach, the researchers conduct observation, interview, and literature review as data collection techniques. This study finds that Media Group Network and Mahaka Media have already applied these three journalism convergence models (newsroom, newsgathering, and content). Media Group Network and Mahaka Media have been continuously and consistently applying those three aspects of journalism convergence. However, there are some differences in the journalism convergence process in Media Group Network and Mahaka Media, namely the code of ethics and training for journalists. Another difference is that Mahaka Media provides print on demand for its readers, while Media Group Network has broad coverage on journalism convergence through free to air television, Metro TV

Abstract

Public interest in political battles is constant, and the Indonesian presidential election in February 2024 is no exception. The three presidential candidates, who have been declared, aggressively establish their political personas and gain exposure and notoriety using Instagram, including @aniesbaswedan, @ganjar_pranowo, and @prabowo. This study aims to dissect the political persona of the 2024 Indonesian presidential candidates using the visual framing analysis method, studying how certain points of view are emphasized or made prominent through visual messages. While other framing studies focus on textual analysis, visual framing analysis is rarely employed even though visual elements have the power to build emotional affection and can last longer in memory. The study's data set comprises Instagram posts from the officially declared presidential contender (@aniesbaswedan from October 3, 2022; @ganjar_pranowo from April 21, 2023; @prabowo from August 12, 2022) to May 21, 2023. The research findings indicate that the political persona built by each presidential candidate still revolves around aspects of their own inherent identity such as religion, race, ethnicity, tribe, customs, habits, education level, economic status, social status, family background, and political stance, rather than providing a clear picture of their priority policy programs when in office.

Since the young people are active users of social media, this research aims to map the topics of the college students’ post to X (formerly Twitter) autobase account using content warnings (“TW”, “trigger warning” and “CW”, “Content Warning”) to study sensitive or disturbing contents that may triggers trauma. Many college students in Indonesia created campus-based autobase accounts as a platform for sharing information both academic and non-academic, expressing opinions and feelings, socializing, etc. Its anonymous feature plays as a safe space so the users can be themselves on this platform, including posting sensitive contents. This research looked at autobase X accounts of three campuses in Indonesia. They are Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta. This research is a netnographic research by collecting tweets containing trigger warnings from the autobase accounts of the three campuses, then grouping the tweets into topics. Using literature review related to the concepts of anonymity and safe space, it is found that autobase accounts with their anonymous feature is a platform with potential to be a safe space for college students to seek help, including helps for suicidal thoughts, mental health and self harm, sexual harassment, and express things that are considered taboo, especially in Indonesian culture, such as LGBTQ+ issues. This is also an effort to acknowledge collective vulnerability among students that may need further intervention
