Abstract

This study examines human interaction with artificial intelligence technology, focusing on the implementation of ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI. Through the Human-Machine Communication (HMC) approach, the research describes human-like attributes in ChatGPT, exploring emotional responses and utility in educational, professional, and personal contexts. Qualitative research methods with triangulation techniques were used for a holistic understanding, involving interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results indicate that ChatGPT can provide adaptive responses, adjusting language style, and presenting information with self-awareness. Comparisons between human-to-human and human-to-machine interactions, particularly through ChatGPT, reveal significant differences. In human-to-human communication, the primary role is given to humans as message sources, while in machine communication, ChatGPT becomes an interactive partner, especially in text messages. Despite similarities in interpersonal communication features, such as feedback, personal relationship cues are more pronounced in human-to-human interactions. Factors like self-concept, openness, and confidence are dominant in human-to-human communication, while AI literacy becomes crucial in interactions with machines. Abstract

This study aims to explain the deconstruction of the meaning of beauty depicted in the Rexona Motion Activated “72 Jam Kesegaran Nonstop” advertisement that aired in 2022 for a duration of 30 seconds. The reason behind this research is the evolution of advertisements shifting towards becoming agents of positive empowerment for women, particularly in representing beauty. The research uses a qualitative research method, and the data collected are analyzed through John Fiske's semiotic approach to television codes, consisting of Reality, Representation, and Ideology, as well as Jacques Derrida's deconstruction theory used as a reference in the research. The results of the study show a deconstruction of the meaning of beauty in the ad, moving away from the pseudo- "beautiful" construction by the media and the advertisement's effort to present beauty from within (inner beauty), which has been neglected by the media. Abstract

The "sex sells" marketing strategy is still used by anime, a form of entertainment that is becoming more and more popular worldwide, and one of them is Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu anime series. Due to the main character's vulgarity against girls, this anime series sparked debate among anime viewers. For a number of reasons, such as the freedom to work for artists and the fact that sexual objectification done through animation does not damage real girls, objections to this topic are frequently refuted. The goal of this study is to identify the various ways that girls are sexually objectified in anime, which could affect viewers' attitudes and actions. A qualitative approach is used through critical discourse analysis by Sara Mills. Discourse is utilized methodologically to dismantle forms of sexual objectification of women in anime series. It is revealed how women are portrayed as sexual objects in anime fan service through the male gaze through discourse analysis of characters, focalization, fragmentation, and cinema schemata. Findings from this study indicate that there existed instances of sexual objectification of women in the anime series Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu, particularly in relation to the love interest of the main male character. This study critically makes us aware that the growth of digital media, which can provide a wide range of content and depict a variety of male and female characters, nevertheless reinforces patriarchal value. Even in the digital age, animation—a creative form of entertainment—continues to treat girls as just objects of desire for men. This serves as a reminder that the conventional entertainment industry, which frequently makes fun of sexual harassment of women, still exists in the internet sphere. In light of this anime series, women participation in the digital sphere ought to be promoted in order to change people's perceptions of women. It has been proven that the freedom that many advocate in the digital age yet imposes restrictions on the presence of girls as a subject. Keywords: anime; digital; girls; objectification; male gaze;

Abstract

The deep-rooted patriarchal culture in Indonesia makes women seen as submissive and inferior to men, so they often receive unfair treatment in the society. Along with the increasing awareness of gender equality, women are starting to dare to choose the path of life they want, including in terms of marital status. The phenomenon of postponing marriage is increasingly widespread because of the awareness of what women will face when getting married in an environment with a patriarchal culture that is still inherent in the society. This can be seen through the increase in the number of unmarried women and the shift in the average age of marriage for women in Indonesia. Ironically, the result of patriarchal culture is still very much embedded in society, making unmarried women obtain a negative stigma from society, which is "perawan tua" as one of them. The purpose of this research is to find out how women who have never been married interpret the term "perawan tua" by society. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods analyzed through interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) techniques. Interview techniques were used in collecting data for this study and analyzed using the data analysis technique by Smith et al. (2009). The results showed that unmarried women interpreted the term "perawan tua" as negative. However, participants did not internalize the term into themselves.
