Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) training is designed to enhance employees' understanding and awareness of potential hazards in the workplace, as well as to impart knowledge regarding safety standards, operational procedures, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This training plays a vital role in influencing behaviors related to occupational safety and health. The objective of this research was to investigate the impact of various factors—such as knowledge, educational background, disciplinary measures, regulations, support from supervisors, peer encouragement, availability of safety equipment, and duration of employment—on the safety practices of workers at the UPTD Sungai Puar Community Health Center in Batang Hari Regency, Jambi. Utilizing qualitative research methods, the study involved observations and interviews with 12 participants both prior to and following the training. The findings indicated that knowledge, education, disciplinary actions, regulations, support from superiors, peer motivation, availability of safety equipment, and tenure significantly affected the safety behaviors of the workers at the health center. Ultimately, the study concluded that education and support from supervisors emerged as the most significant determinants of Occupational Safety and Health behaviors.

Abstract

The Government of Indonesia is currently undertaking a health systemtransformation through the Integration of Primary Health Care Services (ILP) to improve access, quality, and efficiency of services at the Puskesmas (community health center) level. However, the readiness for ILP implementation still faces various challenges, particularly in the working area of the Asahan District Health Office. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the readiness for ILP implementation in three Puskesmas in Asahan Regency: Puskesmas Rawang Pasar IV, Puskesmas Meranti, and Puskesmas Binjai Serbangan. This research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 105 respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression. Bivariate analysis showed that human resources (p=0.016).and digital information systems (p=0.004) significantly influenced ILP readiness. Meanwhile, facilities and medical equipment (p=1.000) and stakeholder involvement (p=0.495) did not have a significant effect. Multivariate analysis revealed that the digital information system was the most dominant factor (Exp(B)=6.893), followed by human resources (Exp(B)=3.888). Human resources and digital information systems significantly influence ILP readiness. Therefore, enhancing the competence of health personnel and strengthening digital information systems are strategic priorities to support the successful implementation of ILP at the Puskesmas level.

Abstract

Background: Toddlerhood is a critical period of child growth and development that requires optimal nutritional intake. Underweight toddlers can be caused by chronically low food intake. Maternal ignorance about nutrition can lead to malnutrition, which in turn causes toddlers to eat poorly. Objective: To determine how maternal knowledge and toddler eating habits are influenced by nutrition education about balanced nutrition using lembar balik media. Methodology: Thirty-three mothers with children aged 24 to 59 months participated in this study, which used a single-group pre-post test design. Education was conducted in two meetings using lembar balik media, with different materials in each meeting. Knowledge data were measured using a questionnaire, and the Food Frequency Questionnaire was used to evaluate eating habits (FFQ). The Dependent T-test was used in data analysis. Results: After education, the average score of mothers' knowledge increased from 51.21 to 69.39 (p = 0.000), according to the study. After instruction, the average score of toddlers' eating patterns increased from 264.33 to 324.36 (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Mothers' knowledge and toddlers' eating habits increased as a result of lembar balik media education about balanced and nutritious eating patterns.

Abstract

Background: Nutritional problems among children and adolescents remain a major public health issue in Indonesia, with challenges including both undernutrition and overnutrition. One contributing factor is the increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF), especially among adolescents. UPFs are industrially processed foods that are high in energy, fat, sugar, and salt, but low in essential nutrients. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between UPF consumption and nutritional status among adolescents. Methodology: This study used an observational design based on data from a systematic review. Results and Discussion: A review of various national and international studies shows that most research found a positive association between high UPF consumption and excessive nutritional status, such as overweight and obesity. However, some studies did not show a significant relationship, which may be influenced by other factors such as physical activity, sedentary behavior, and socioeconomic conditions. Furthermore, the type of UPF consumed also affects its impact on nutritional status, with energy-dense foods showing a stronger correlation than beverages. Conclusion: High consumption of ultra-processed foods has the potential to be an independent risk factor for excessive nutritional status in adolescents, although individual characteristics and lifestyle variability should be considered as moderating factors in this relationship.

Abstract

Background: Mental health problems are increasing among adolescents. One modifiable risk factor is diet, particularly the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF), which is notably high in this age group. Objective: This narrative review aims to summarize recent scientific evidence on the association between UPF consumption and the risk of mental health problems in adolescents. Methods: A literature search was conducted using two major databases (Google Scholar and PubMed) with the keywords (“ultra-processed food” OR “UPF”) AND (“adolescents” OR “teenagers” OR “youth”) AND (“depression” OR “anxiety” OR “mental health issues”). After a selection process involving title, abstract, and full-text screening, 11 articles were included in the narrative analysis, which involved identifying patterns, similarities, differences, and links between UPF consumption and adolescent mental health outcomes. Results: Most studies showed that high UPF consumption is associated with an increased risk of mental health issues among adolescents, including depression, anxiety, anxiety-induced sleep disturbance, internalizing and externalizing symptoms, and reduced quality of life. Some studies reported varying results based on gender, assessment tools, and population characteristics. Conclusion: High consumption of UPF may be a potential risk factor for mental health problems in adolescents. Nutrition education and policies limiting UPF intake should be considered as part of preventive and promotive strategies for adolescent mental health. Further longitudinal and interventional studies are needed to strengthen causal evidence and evaluate the effectiveness of preventive efforts.

Abstract

The Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is a critical component in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment, especially in healthcare service facilities such as community health centers (Puskesmas). This study aims to evaluate the implementation of OHSMS at Lima Puluh Public Health Center in Batu Bara Regency, focusing on three key components: policy establishment, planning, and implementation of OHS plans. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used, and data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and documentation involving 10 informants from the District Health Office and the Puskesmas staff. The results show that although OHS policies have been formally established through official decrees, their implementation remains weak. Most team members were unaware of the decree, had not received OHS training, and lacked written work plans. Risk identification was informal and undocumented, and there was no systematic OHS planning document. The implementation of OHS activities was reactive and relied heavily on staff habits or personal initiatives. Out of 11 OHS standards for healthcare facilities, six had not yet been implemented, including hazard identification and risk control, application of ergonomic principles, periodic health examinations, immunization, management of facilities and infrastructure from an OHS perspective, and emergency or disaster preparedness. The study recommends strengthening management commitment, improving human resource capacity through training, and allocating specific budgets for OHS programs to optimize OHSMS implementation. The Batu Bara District Health and Family Planning Office, as the supervisor of OHSMS implementation, is expected to conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure sustainable improvement in OHS performance.
