Abstract

The focus of this study is to analyze collaborative governance and strengthening household resilience to disasters. The theory used is the collaborative governance theory from Emerson et.al and the household resilience theory from Karbon et.al. This research uses a mix method research approach. Data collection techniques started from participant observation techniques, in-depth interviews, unstructured discussions, survey techniques and group interview methods. The unit of analysis in this study were individuals and households at the RW and RT levels. This study used  data analysis of the Miles and Huberman model in qualitative analysis and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) analysis in quantitative approach. The results of this study showed  that households at  the Ciliwung Riverbank remain resilient in disaster areas due to their success in building cooperation and creating new behaviors. Cooperation was carried out not only at the household level but also at the national level. This success showed that households were  able to take action together, carry out risk reduction activities and are able to increase the capacity of economic life in the household. The novelty in this study is that collaborative governance creates new behaviors to reduce the impact of disasters and strengthen household resilience to stay in the disaster area.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social movements of the Wadas community related to mining development in Wadas Village. Data sources were obtained by capturing news related to hashtags and at-signs, which Twitter social media users widely use to support resistance and rejection by Wadas people. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data analysis used the NVivo12 software application to visualize the data in graphs, images, and word frequency. The research findings show that the plan to build the Bener Dam in Purworejo District and Wonosobo Regency has experienced a very significant rejection with the circulation of two social movements on social media, Twitter, in the form of hashtags and at-signs as evidence of resistance to the mining project located in Wadas village. #Wadasmelawan is the most popular hashtag often echoed on Twitter social media with a percentage of 3.38%. The Wadas community social movement subsequently used at-sign @Ganjarpranowo, who is also highlighted in the public sphere and social media, is required to resolve mining conflicts due to permits Location Determination (IPL) for andesite mining from the Governor of Central Java Province. Two Wadas social movements using hashtags and at-signs invite a reasonably high response on Twitter users with as many as 89.34% tweets. This means that the community's resistance to mining in Wadas is very significant in getting support from the public.

Abstract

This research is focused on Japanese causative constructions related to verbs that act datively, both syntactically and semantically. The purpose of this study is to explain the process of forming Japanese causative constructions both syntactically and semantically. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. This study uses the syntactic theory of Iori’s regarding the formation of causative constructions, Song's theory of the meaning of causative constructions. The data source is taken from the Japanese language corpus, namely http://www.kotonoha.gr.jp/shonagon/. The results of this study indicate that dative verbs can be formed through the process of forming causative constructions in Japanese. The formation process is in the form of a verb that goes through a morphological process [~seru/ ~saseru]. The verb can be either transitive or intransitive. Transitive verbs that act datively, namely, verbs / yomaseta 読ませた '(cause) to read' and intransitive verbs that act datif/ wataraseta 渉らせた '(cause) to cross', and verbs /arukaseta 歩かせた '(cause) to walk '. The intransitive verb is a moving verb '移動/ idoudoushi'.

Abstract

Preschool-aged children start to use various types of speech acts, one of which is directive acts. This article discusses the use of directive acts by preschool-aged children, especially related to their types and fulfillment of the felicity conditions determining the success of the directive acts. The study was conducted by utilizing qualitative and quantitative data, involving 11 preschool-aged children in Bina Buah Hati Preschool, Yogyakarta. The results show that preschool-aged children mainly use the directive act of questioning, addressed to both their peers and teacher. The questions are intended to enrich their knowledge of the world around them. In addition to questioning, the directive acts are also used to request, command, invite, prohibit, and suggest. Meanwhile, related to the felicity conditions of their directive acts, it is observed that preschool-aged children have been able to meet the overall felicity conditions so that their directive acts can be perceived perfectly by their interlocutors. Aspects of power and control of the interlocutors have begun to be well-understood, so they already have the awareness to adjust the types of directive acts against the background of the interlocutors. In addition, seeds of politeness have begun to be seen through their use of directive acts.

Abstract

This paper discusses a 2019 animated film entitled Tenki no Ko by Shinkai Makoto. This film is Shinkai’s most commercially successful work. Like other Shinkai’s works, Tenki no Ko talks about a romantic story between two teenage characters. The film is not only a work of fantasy or romance, but it also brings up natural elements that are expressed in the plot. Not only do the natural elements expressed in the film send the message of global warming, but they also show the reality of human life. Therefore, the analysis will be carried out with an epistemological method to prove the truth of the reality of life that the film expresses. The explanatory element applied to the object is a metaphorical expression of the scenes with reference to the multimodal metaphor theory through an ecological perspective. The analysis aims to trace ecological metaphorical expressions in the film. The findings show that the dominant metaphorical expression is “human life is like the weather” which can be called an ecological metaphor in connection with the ecological relationship between the human characters and their environment.

Abstract

Discussing the greatness of the Minangkabau ethnic group globally, almost every expert always connects it with the migration culture of the Minangkabau people. Historical facts reveal that merantau is synonymous with men or the patriarchal world. It is a paradox with the kinship system adopted by the Minangkabau society, which is matrilineal and matriarchal. This paper aims to: (1). Reveal the place of women in the Minangkabau migration culture; (2). This research uses the historical method combined with the literature method. This article is supported by the oral history method to sharpen the analysis. This approach is similar to the interview method in qualitative research, which consists of surveys of those who are active and experienced in implementing the Minangkabau tradition. They are analysing the global view of the postcolonial perspective in the Minangkabau people's migration culture. This study uses the historical method combined with the literature method. The results of this study indicate that the matrilineal culture of the Minangkabau people in the colonial period was very thick with patriarchal perspectives and gender bias. Unlike the postcolonial period, there was a significant paradigm shift and historical reality. During the postcolonial period, Minangkabau women were allowed to migrate to develop their potential in the public sphere.

Abstract

The design of this model is based on previous research findings that show the existence of 'verbal violence' in criticizing politicians during political discourse. This violence stems from the type of criticism, the strategy used to criticize, and the dominant style of criticism which is often sarcastic and cynical. As a result, the illocutionary function is conflictive and competitive, which poses a high level of face threat and falls within the impolite category. Based on these findings, a politeness model was developed to criticize political discourse. The model was designed using research and development methods with six stages: needs analysis, model design, model development, model implementation, and model evaluation. Data was collected through media review, and data validation was conducted using expert and user validation. Data analysis was done through content analysis and model development. Given that political discourse is characterized by a struggle for power, the model aims to reduce and soften the illocutionary power of criticism by applying relevant politeness principles and scales. The model is implemented using declarative and interrogative constructions, fenced imperative pragmatic meanings, and soft cues to produce polite criticism while maintaining the competitive atmosphere of political contestation. Therefore, the novelty of this research lies in using linguistic tools to produce a model of polite criticism without reducing the competitive atmosphere that characterizes political contestation. Additionally, the model can contribute to revitalizing political culture by increasing political discourse literacy through linguistic competence. It also presents an alternative solution to the problem of intolerance in the country.
