Abstract

Reflective thinking ability is the ability to make connections between new information and previous information to solve problems by drawing conclusions.  Meanwhile, numerical ability is the ability to calculate. Both are very important for students in studying mathematics. Based on the results of pre-research test instruments conducted in class X SMA Negeri 1 Sukau West Lampung, data obtained that reflective thinking ability and numerical ability are still relatively low. This is due to the choice of learning strategies which are still monotonous. Therefore, researchers are interested in implementing the REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperative, Transferring) Learning Strategy Assisted by E-Modules on Students' Reflective Thinking and Numerical Abilities. The population in this study were all class X students at SMA Negeri 1 Sukau, while the samples were students from classes X C, X D, and X F. Class X C is experimental class 1, class X D is experimental class 2, and class X F is the control class. This research uses a quantitative approach in this research using Quasi Experiment Design. The sampling technique is Cluster Random Sampling. In this research, the data collection techniques are observation, documentation and tests. The data analysis used was Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) with a significance level of 5%. Based on the results of MANOVA research, it shows that the REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperative, Transferring) learning strategy assisted by e-modules has an impact on students' reflective thinking abilities and numerical abilities.

Abstract

The experience of making and proving mathematical conjectures is valuable for students. The element of doubt in the conjecture gives students access to reasoning. All Calculus textbooks discuss limits, but most practice problems on the subject of limits are not specifically made as practice problems for making and proving conjectures. This study aims to describe problems on the subject of limits that can be used as practice questions to make and prove conjectures. The object of this research is the questions on the subject of limits related to geometry material in the book Calculus, 7th edition by James Stewart. This research method is a content analysis based on the praxeology model which consists of four elements of analysis, namely tasks, techniques, technology, and theory. The results show that the problems can be identified as exercises in making and proving conjectures, the steps in making and proving conjectures can be used to solve the problem, justification can be done to apply the steps in making and proving conjectures, and there is a theory used in justifying the steps in making and proving conjectures.

Abstract

Students often struggle to understand trigonometry due to its abstract nature and the need for strong visualization skills. This study aims to develop a web-based interactive learning media on trigonometry to enhance students’ mathematical reasoning ability in Grade X at Madrasah Aliyah Nurul Huda. The research employed the ADDIE development model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Validation results indicated that the developed media is highly feasible, with a score of 97% (very feasible) from subject matter and language experts, and 84% (feasible) from media experts. The product features concise content, interactive simulations for better visualization, evaluation exercises, and wordwall-based games accessible via smartphones or computers. Effectiveness tests showed an improvement in students’ reasoning skills with an average N-gain of 0.41 in small-scale trials and 0.54 in field trials (moderate category), along with a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (sig. 0.001 < 0.05). The findings imply that web-based interactive media can serve as an effective alternative to improve the quality of mathematics learning, especially in trigonometry

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is an important foundation for students in learning further material. However, many students still have difficulty with the concept of integers. This study aims to improve students' mathematical conceptual understanding of integers through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The research was conducted at MTs Nurul Huda Depok with 27 seventh-grade students as participants. The method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR), which consisted of two cycles, each comprising three meetings. The research instruments included a conceptual understanding test, observation sheets for teacher and student activities, interviews, and field notes. The results showed an improvement in students' mathematical conceptual understanding after the implementation of the PBL model. Initially, the average student score was 61%, indicating a low level of mastery. After the first cycle, the average score increased, although it had not yet met the success indicator. In the second cycle, however, the average score rose significantly, achieving over 80% classical mastery in line with the established success criteria. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model is effective in enhancing students' mathematical conceptual understanding of integers in the seventh grade at MTs Nurul Huda Depok Keywords: Classroom action research, conceptual understanding, problem based learning

Abstract

Algebraic thinking is a fundamental mathematical ability that supports students’ understanding of relationships, patterns, and structures, particularly in learning fractions at the elementary school level. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of using Fraction Tiles as manipulative media in fraction learning to enhance fourth-grade students’ algebraic thinking skills. A pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 30 elementary school students. The learning activities emphasized concrete manipulation, visual representation, pattern exploration, and symbolic expression of fraction relationships using Fraction Tiles. Students’ algebraic thinking abilities were assessed across four indicators: identifying equivalence and relationships among fractions, representing fractions in multiple forms, drawing simple generalizations from fraction patterns, and using mathematical symbols to express relationships. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test. The results revealed a substantial improvement in students’ algebraic thinking, as indicated by higher mean posttest scores compared to pretest scores. The paired-samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), accompanied by a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = −48.0), indicating strong practical effectiveness. These findings suggest that the use of Fraction Tiles is highly effective in fostering algebraic thinking and provides a meaningful instructional approach for fraction learning in elementary education.
