Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the geometric patterns of medallions in Kidal Temple using a qualitative approach with an ethnographic research design. The data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research utilized both the main instrument (the researcher themselves) and auxiliary instruments including interview guidelines, observation sheets, math concept suitability sheets, and documentation tools. The geometric concept of the medallions in Kidal Temple encompassed the circle, quadrilateral, and congruence on the circle. The outer side of the medallion was a flat circular shape, which was verified through measurement and instrument adjustment. On the inside of the geometric medallion, there was a rectangular flat shape formed by four lines. Another significant finding of this study was the concept of circle equality, as the center of the medallion exhibited the same characteristics as the outer part despite differing in size. It is important to note that the scope of this research is limited to ethnomathematics studies, specifically focusing on the relief form of geometric medallions. Consequently, further research is needed to explore the implications as like as learning Realistic Mathematic Education of these findings in the context of geometric medallions.

Abstract

Through communication, students can explore and strengthen mathematical thinking and knowledge and develop the ability to solve problems using mathematical language, thus forming mathematical communication. This research aims to analyze students' mathematical communication based on systematic and intuitive cognitive styles in the SPLTV (Systems of Linear Equations in Three Variables) material in class X at Nurul Muslim High School. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were 2 students with a systematic cognitive style and 2 students with a cognitive style as determined from the CSI (Cognitive Style Inventory) test. Research subjects were given a test, then a test-based interview was conducted to dig up further information. Data analysis was carried out by reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. Source triangulation is used to check the validity of the data. The results of this research show that students with a systematic cognitive style can fulfill all indicators of mathematical communication. Characterized by being able to write complete information, create mathematical models, solve problems, and make appropriate conclusions. Students with a intuitive cognitive style are not yet able to fulfill all indicators of mathematical communication. Characterized by difficulty writing complete information. Able to create mathematical models, but unable to finalize the final results or draw conclusions due to errors in finding variables.

Abstract

Mathematical Conceptual Understanding (KPKM) of students needs to be improved because it is essential for their skills. This study aims to enhance KPKM by using the Teams Games Tournaments model through Sporcle (TGTS). The TGTS model was chosen because it combines elements of competition and games that can increase student participation and interest in learning. The method used is a quasi-experiment with the population consisting of all class X MIPA students in two classes, while the samples were class X MIPA 1 as the experimental class and X MIPA 2 as the control class. Data were collected through student activity observation sheets, pretests and posttests, and learning interest questionnaires. After the research was conducted, data on student activity and learning interest were analyzed descriptively, while pretest and posttest data were analyzed using the independent t-test, two-way ANOVA, and N-gain. The results showed a significant difference in KPKM between students who learned using the TGTS model and those who learned with the conventional model. The results also showed that there was no significant interaction effect between the TGTS learning method and the level of students' learning interest on KPKM. This indicates that the TGTS model had a positive impact on students' mathematical conceptual understanding consistently, regardless of their learning interest level, whether high, medium, or low.
