Abstract

The recent global economic crisis has resulted in more expensive health care in which, poor families might not get access to proper health care. Furthermore, global warming and pollution could influence change of disease patterns in the world, includes the tropical island of Lombok. For those two factors, it is interesting to know the disease pattern among poor people and also to give positive contribution for free medical care and treatment to them. A survey of disease patterns and free medical care had been done in Gunung Sari village in August 2015. Patient histories were taken using fundamental four and basic seven techniques whereas physical examinations were done by two registered general practitioners. Soon after working diagnosis is confirmed, empiric antibiotic treatment and symptomatic drugs are prescribed to the patients. As a result, 54% of 136 patients are male and 51,4% of them aged from 16 to 59 years old. Upper respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, and skin problems were the three common diseases. As for the empiric antibiotic treatment, Amoxycillin is the common agent used (34%). Moreover, antipyretic and anti-diarrhoea serve as the common symptomatic treatment used (21,3%). In a summary, the disease pattern and type of treatment given to poor people in Gunung Sari village were the same as that in other areas.

Abstract

After the 2018 Lombok Earthquake, buildings at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Mataram (FT Unram) were severely damaged and there was no comprehensive treatment. Facilities for earthquake mitigation are still minimal and if available they are not designed and placed properly. Some parts of the building have been renovated but appear unfinished, while there were new constructions that have not been investigated regarding their suitability with earthquake mitigation. Anticipating re-occurrence of a major earthquake in Lombok, it is very necessary to implement earthquake mitigation at FT Unram. In this paper, results of vulnerability investigation of each building will be presented including number, type, and level of damages as well as their locations and detailed documentation of each point of damages in form of pictures and photos/videos. Through this activity vulnerabilities of each building can be identified comprehensively, so that appropriate treatments can be carried out, and the safest evacuation route can be planned as well.

Abstract

Permanent raised-beds can be used in several soil seasons and aim to increase production through the application of sustainable and sustainable agriculture and can improve the welfare of farmers. The three basic principles of conservation agriculture are: i) applying minimal or no tillage ii) applying cover crops continuously throughout the year, and iii) applying crop diversification, either by intercropping, crop rotation, and consecutive cropping (relay cropping), especially between non-legume and legume crops. Service activities provide knowledge to farmers by demonstrating the application of permanent bed farming techniques to reduce farm production costs. This activity is expected to: 1) as an example of the application of permanent bed-based agriculture to prevent soil erosion by planting cover crops and mulch, 2) as an example of a permanent bed technique to maintain soil stability and save costs, 3) as an example of a natural way to restore physical, chemical and biological fertility of dry soil, and 4) as an example of how to increase soil productivity in dry paddy fields typology. To achieve this, several conservation methods will be introduced, as well as several types of vegetable crops and minimum tillage techniques will be introduced.

Abstract

Currently, due to the low production of eggs in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province, most eggs on the market are brought in from other region. Despite it’s huge population, representing 24,6% population of Nusa Tenggara Barat, East Lombok could supply 2% of market demand at most. The high cost of chicken coop construction is one of the main reasons of this low production. Meanwhile, Bamboo is abundant in East Lombok, it’s thrive along Tojang River Bank.  Bamboo could be use as substitute material for battery cages. Cost production of battery cages from bamboo is relatively lower than the one made from hardwood, steel, light steel, and baton. Considering accessible substitute materials at lower price are available, the cost production could be reduced. This community service is aiming for local community cognition of local bamboo as low priced material. This community service is implemented by discourse, which done by a number of survey, survey of the community service location, and discourse to give information of how to utilize local bamboo as battery cages material, size of the cages including size of individual cage, gap between column, column’s height, local bamboo as material for frame and purlin, bamboo as economy and environmental friendly material, preservation method, suitable bamboo joint model for battery cages structure. Due to COVID-19, The battery cages constructed in the community service location was evaluated through zoom meeting.
