Abstract

Diabetes mellitus often remains undetected in its early stages because its symptoms are nonspecific; therefore, community-based screening is needed to identify individuals at risk. This community service activity aimed to support early detection of diabetes mellitus through random blood glucose testing among residents of Kabul Village, Praya Barat Daya District, Central Lombok. The activity involved 25 participants aged 18 years or older and comprised preparation, glucometer-based testing, delivery of individual results, and brief health education. Data were analyzed descriptively according to random blood glucose categories. The results showed that 22 participants (88%) had normal glucose levels, one participant (4%) was classified as prediabetic, and two participants (8%) were suspected of having diabetes mellitus. These findings indicate that random blood glucose testing can serve as a practical initial screening method for identifying at-risk individuals. Participants with above-normal results should undergo confirmatory examination at a healthcare facility.

Abstract

Early childhood education plays a crucial role in shaping children’s cognitive development, social skills, and character formation. However, learning practices in many early childhood education institutions are still dominated by classroom-based activities with limited direct experience. This community service program aimed to implement contextual learning through vegetable planting activities for early childhood learners at RA Aladdin, West Lombok, to enhance learning experiences, environmental awareness, and social skills. The partners involved were teachers and students of RA Aladdin. The program employed an educative participatory approach based on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), implemented through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. During the implementation stage, children were directly involved in planting and caring for vegetables in the school yard under the guidance of teachers. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation to assess children’s engagement and enthusiasm, as well as reflective discussions with teachers to evaluate program effectiveness and sustainability. The results showed that contextual learning through vegetable planting increased children’s active participation, fostered responsibility and cooperation, and helped them understand basic plant concepts through direct experience. This activity also strengthened teachers’ roles as learning facilitators. Overall, the program highlights the importance of utilizing the school environment as a contextual learning resource to support meaningful and sustainable learning in early childhood education.

Abstract

This community service activity assesses the potential of corn residue as a lignocellulosic feedstock for bioethanol production in Sambelia Village, Indonesia, using a scenario-based analytical approach. Field surveys and interviews with local stakeholders indicate that approximately 100 hectares of corn farmland generate about 800 tons of corn residues annually, mainly consisting of stalks and cobs. In the absence of laboratory data on moisture content and carbohydrate composition, realistic technical assumptions were applied to represent practical field conditions. Three scenarios—conservative, moderate, and optimistic were formulated to reflect variations in effective carbohydrate fraction and the efficiencies of hydrolysis and fermentation processes. The analysis indicates that potential bioethanol production ranges from approximately 81,600 L/year (816 L/ha) under conservative conditions to 205,200 L/year (2,052 L/ha) under optimistic conditions, with the moderate scenario yielding around 138,700 L/year (1,387 L/ha). From an energy perspective, these outputs correspond to 1,722–4,329 GJ per year (0.48–1.20 GWh), demonstrating a meaningful contribution to local renewable energy supply. This scenario-based method provides a flexible and realistic framework for early-stage planning of village-scale bioethanol development, particularly in community service programs where detailed laboratory data are limited. Overall, the activity highlights the importance of biomass quality, residue availability, and technological efficiency in supporting waste valorization, rural energy resilience, and sustainable energy transition.

Abstract

Advances in information technology have driven the use of digital media as a more effective means of conveying information in educational settings. However, SDIT Saad Bin Abi Waqqash does not yet have a digital information system capable of delivering information to the school community quickly and dynamically. This community service project aims to design and implement a digital information board system with a running-text display suitable for the school environment. The method used is an action research approach, which includes the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The planning process involves determining the installation location based on the building’s layout and designing an LED dot-matrix system. The implementation results show that the running text system operates effectively, displays information in real time, and provides optimal visibility from various areas of the school. Additionally, the developed system is easy for users to operate via a smartphone-based application. Thus, the use of running text as a digital medium for information dissemination can enhance its effectiveness and support the use of technology in the school environment.

Abstract

Digital transaction adoption is increasingly essential for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly small shops and kiosks in Mataram City, which still face limitations in digital financial literacy. This community service program aims to enhance MSME owners’ understanding and practical skills in using QRIS as an efficient, secure, and transparent digital payment system. The implementation methods include partner needs assessment, pre-test, training and hands-on QRIS practice, post-test evaluation, and continuous assistance through both offline and online consultations. The program involved 10 MSME participants and employed a Likert-scale questionnaire based on three main indicators: basic QRIS knowledge, transaction usage, and payment security and transparency. The results indicate a significant improvement, with the average score increasing from 2.57 (pre-test) to 3.58 (post-test). The distribution of competency levels also shifted toward higher categories after the intervention. These findings demonstrate that structured mentoring effectively improves digital payment literacy and adoption among MSMEs. The program contributes to strengthening financial management, reducing cash transaction risks, and improving business competitiveness in the digital economy era.
