Abstract

This research involves support from various extreme religious groups, both from the left and right. This phenomenon can be understood as a concept related to radicalism on one side and liberalism on the other. Extremism in this context is not limited to Islam and Islamism, but also encompasses characteristics of Islam as outlined in the Qur'an, referred to as Islam wasathan. The application of a moderate stance is in line with the teachings in Q.S. al-Baqarah verse 143, although it should be noted from the outset that this statement is not entirely accurate. To realize moderation or wasathiyah as a guideline for thinking, behaving, and acting for Muslims, preliminary steps are necessary. This research aims to analyze several issues: (1) What does Q.S. al-Baqarah verse 143 explain about social moderation in religious practice? (2) How can the concept of moderation be applied according to Surat Al-Baqarah:143? This study also investigates whether this support comes from highly esoteric religious groups. Furthermore, the application of moderation principles aligns with the goals of Islamic education, emphasizing the importance of openness; Q.S. al-Baqarah verse 143 asserts that an educator must be able to adopt an open attitude and provide guidance in the process of teaching Islam. The method of Islamic education is based on compassion, prioritizing polite and open attitudes in the learning environment. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute to the development of knowledge among academics as well as educators and parents in their efforts to moderate students' understanding in daily life.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between the concept of the expansion of the earth from the perspective of the Qur'an and modern geological theory, especially regarding the movement of the earth's plates influenced by mantle convection. This study highlights the importance of understanding the expansion of the earth from both a scientific and spiritual perspective by analyzing terms in the Qur'an, such as madda, firasya, and daha. This study uses a qualitative approach through a literature study, integrating scientific literature and religious texts. The results of the study show that although there are differences between the concept of "expanding earth" in the Qur'an and modern scientific theory, both have a relationship that can be studied interdisciplinary. The discussion in this study emphasizes that the expansion of the earth does not only represent a physical phenomenon, but also reflects the greatness of Allah in the creation of the universe. The findings of this study are expected to enrich integrative scientific insights and provide new perspectives on the relationship between science and religion. In addition, the results of this study emphasize the relevance of religious values in understanding geological phenomena and encourage constructive dialogue between science and spirituality

Abstract

This study examines the role of eating etiquette in preventing obesity and gastritis and the challenges of implementing it among adolescents in the modern era. The increasing obesity rate in Indonesia is often caused by unhealthy eating patterns, including high consumption of fast food. This study uses a qualitative method with literature analysis to explore the relationship between eating etiquette from an Islamic perspective and health. The results show that implementing the principles of mindful eating and balanced nutrition can help prevent obesity and gastritis. In addition, the practice of eating etiquette recommended in Islam, such as choosing halal and thayyib foods, washing hands before eating, and reciting prayers, contribute to physical and mental health. The discussion in this study highlights the negative impacts of unhealthy eating patterns and the importance of educating the public about the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad in eating etiquette. The conclusion of this study confirms that the implementation of eating etiquette not only plays a role in preventing disease, but also contributes to improving the overall quality of life. This study is expected to fill the gap in the literature regarding the positive impacts of eating etiquette practices on health and provide insight into the development of nutrition education based on Islamic values

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze Islamic values in the traditional art of Javanese wayang kulit, focusing on the characters of Punakawan: Semar, Gareng, Petruk, and Bagong. Wayang kulit, which has been adapted by Sunan Kalijaga as a medium of da'wah, has an important role in conveying Islamic teachings through the symbolism and narratives of its characters. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, which allows for in-depth exploration of moral and spiritual themes in the Punakawan characters. The results of the study show that each character reflects fundamental Islamic values: Semar symbolizes wisdom and faith, Gareng represents patience and caution, Petruk depicts creativity and devotion, and Bagong reflects honesty and critical thinking. Wayang kulit not only functions as entertainment, but also as an effective moral education tool in society. However, this study also noted a decline in interest in traditional arts for the younger generation, so innovation is needed in the delivery and integration of wayang into the education system. The conclusion of this study confirms that wayang kulit has great potential in shaping the character and spiritual values of society, so that efforts to preserve and develop more relevant delivery methods in the modern era are very necessary.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practice of tahlilan and the Nyewu tradition in Javanese society and its meaning and complexity from an Islamic perspective. Tahlilan, although not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an, is seen as a form of alms and prayer for the deceased which is believed to originate from the teachings of Sunan Ampel. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach to examine in depth the stages of the Nyewu tradition, which include Sur Tanah, Nelung Dina, Mitung Dina, Patang Puluh Dina, Mendak Sepisan, Mendak Pindo, until its peak on the thousandth day (Nyewu). The results of the study indicate that this tradition contains Islamic values, such as alms, Islamic brotherhood, and social solidarity, although there are still differences of opinion among scholars regarding its validity. Some support it as part of the Islamic tradition that has developed in local culture, while others consider it a heresy. This study emphasizes the importance of understanding Islamic teachings in the context of local culture and how this practice can strengthen social ties and religious values in Javanese society. The conclusion of this study recommends the need for a reevaluation of the Nyewu tradition to be more in line with Islamic principles, so that it can provide social and spiritual benefits for the community

Abstract

In Islamic perspective, wealth is regarded as a trust (amanah) from Allah, carrying both spiritual and social responsibilities. This study aims to examine the concept of wealth in the Qur’an, including the principles of fair wealth management, the quality of wealth eligible for charity, and the equitable distribution of wealth to achieve social welfare. A qualitative approach utilizing a literature review method is employed, analyzing Qur’anic verses, hadiths, and references from classical and contemporary tafsir. The findings reveal that Islam emphasizes the significance of halal and quality wealth in charity as a manifestation of social responsibility. The principle of justice in wealth distribution is realized through mechanisms such as zakat, infak, and waqf, which aim to prevent wealth concentration and social inequality. Moreover, Islam promotes responsible wealth management that addresses not only individual needs but also contributes to societal balance and harmony. In the modern context, this study identifies global challenges such as capitalism, economic disparity, and digitalization that influence the application of Shariah-based wealth management. Nevertheless, innovations such as zakat digitalization and modern waqf management provide practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness of wealth redistribution. These findings underscore the adaptability of Islamic principles in addressing contemporary challenges while remaining firmly rooted in Qur’anic and Sunnah values. This research offers a significant contribution to the study of Islamic economics by providing a comprehensive understanding of wealth as a trust. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing a Shariah-compliant economic system that is equitable, sustainable, and relevant to the demands of a global society.

Abstract

This study examines existentialism from the perspective of the Qur'an by emphasizing the concept of individual freedom and responsibility. Existentialism, which developed in Western philosophy through the thoughts of figures such as Martin Heidegger and Jean-Paul Sartre, emphasizes individual freedom in determining the meaning of life. In Islam, this freedom is balanced with moral and spiritual responsibility as explained in the Qur'an. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a content analysis method to examine the verses of the Qur'an, such as QS. Asy-Syams, QS. Al-Insan, and QS. Al-Kahfi. The results of the study show that the Qur'an emphasizes human freedom in choosing a path in life, but every choice has consequences that must be accounted for before Allah. In addition, this study identifies the differences between existentialism in Islam and the West. In Islam, individual freedom is always related to submission to Allah and ethical values, while Western existentialism emphasizes individual autonomy without transcendental attachment. This study confirms the relevance of existentialism in facing the challenges of modern life, especially in the search for the meaning of life and identity. This research is expected to enrich academic studies on the integration of existentialism and Islamic values in various fields, such as education, ethics, and social life.

Abstract

This study analyzes Surah At-Tahrim from the perspective of spirituality and relationship psychology in Islamic family life. This surah provides guidelines for maintaining boundaries, building trust, and carrying out household responsibilities in accordance with Islamic teachings. Faith in Allah is the main factor in creating a harmonious family, while violations of established boundaries, such as lack of respect for privacy and loss of mutual trust, can trigger conflict and psychological and spiritual imbalance in the family. This study uses a descriptive analytical method with a thematic interpretation approach (maudhū‘ī). Data were collected from primary sources, namely the Qur'an and classical and contemporary interpretations, and analyzed using a relationship psychology approach. The results of the study indicate that the principles of justice, piety, and leadership based on responsibility and compassion are the main foundations in building an Islamic family. Surah At-Tahrim also presents the exemplary behavior of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in resolving household conflicts with wisdom. This study confirms that the integration of spiritual values and relationship psychology in Surah At-Tahrim can be a solution in building a harmonious and faith-oriented family. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of a more comprehensive and applicable Islamic family concept.

Abstract

This study analyzes the historical, symbolic, and religious moderation values contained in the AI 1001 Roundabout in Singkawang. This monument not only functions as an aesthetic element of the city, but also represents social harmony and inter-ethnic tolerance. The existence of statues of the three main ethnic groups, Malay, Chinese, and Dayak, emphasizes the collective identity of the Singkawang community who live in diversity and peace. This study uses a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic method to interpret the symbolic meaning contained in the monument. The results of the study indicate that the AI 1001 Roundabout plays a role in strengthening the values of religious moderation, which include tolerance, anti-violence, adaptation to local culture, and love for the homeland. In addition, the existence of this monument also contributes to building collective awareness of the community regarding the importance of pluralism and unity amidst differences. Singkawang's predicate as the Most Tolerant City in Indonesia further strengthens the role of the AI 1001 Roundabout as a real symbol of harmony. Thus, this monument is not only an icon of the city, but also a means of education and social integration in creating a harmonious and inclusive environment for the entire community.

Abstract

Education is one of the key pillars of human civilization development, with two main educational systems prevailing: Islamic education and secular education. This study aims to analyze the dynamics between these two educational systems by exploring their scope, characteristics, and the implications they pose within the social, cultural, and intellectual contexts. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, examining various literatures, educational theories, and relevant empirical data. The findings reveal that Islamic education is characterized by spiritual values and the integration of religious knowledge with worldly sciences, whereas secular education emphasizes rationality, objectivity, and the separation of religion from science. These fundamental differences result in distinct educational goals, teaching methods, and academic paradigms. Furthermore, the study reveals that the challenges of globalization and modernization have prompted efforts to reform and integrate Islamic education to remain relevant in the face of changing times. On the other hand, secular education is gradually incorporating moral and ethical frameworks as a response to the value crisis in modern society. Therefore, this study highlights the need for synthesis or a more inclusive approach in building a holistic, balanced, and human-centered educational system.
