Abstract

This study aims to describe students' understanding of mathematical concepts in learning using the group discussion method on geometric material. The research was conducted qualitatively research with a descriptive approach. The research was conducted at SMPN 259 Jakarta, with 35 class VII-I students as subjects. Data collection was carried out by tests, learning observations, and interviews with students and teachers. The test is ini the form of multiple choices and is foolowed up with questions related to the process of finding the final answer. Indicators of understanding the concept are not only limited to correct or incorrect multiple-choice answers, but descriptions of the explanation of the process of answering them. Interviews with students were conducted to determine understanding of the concept in solving problems. Interviews with teachers were conducted to find out the concept had been given as a whole, not just to obtain the final result. The difficulties that are often found by students are not understanding the spatial context, too focused on formulas, and not understanding precisely the subject that is included in the low concept understanding criteria which is still at 49%. The description shows that the subject does not understand the meaning of using the formula and the accuracy in its use. So it becomes important for teacher to emphasize the context of the concepts represented in the formula, not just limited to calculation procedures.

Abstract

Craft production activities have a lead time so they are detrimental to entrepreneurs in terms of time and energy. To optimize production time, max-plus algebra modeling is required. This research aims to model and analyze the production process of bamboo bag and basket crafts in order to determine the periodic schedule and optimal production time. This research uses mixed methods, namely a combination of quantitative and qualitative research. Data collection was carried out using interviews and literature study. Data analysis was carried out using data integration techniques. The research results show that the periodic production time is 720 minutes and the optimal time to complete 1 production unit is 74 hours 33 minutes. This research can be developed by applying max-plus algebra to other bamboo craft products or developing a model with the possibility of disruption to the production cycle.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying the Make a Match learning model with and without puzzles on critical thinking skills by reviewing self-efficacy. All students of SMP Negeri 4 Karanganyar 2023/2024 class VIII became the research population, and students in class VIIIA, B, and F were selected using a cluster random sampling technique as samples. Learning models, puzzle media, and self-efficacy are determined as independent variables, while thinking skills are determined as dependent variables. Data was collected using documentation, tests, and questionnaire techniques. The hypothesis was tested by two-way ANOVA on different cells. This research can show that the application of the Make a Match learning model with and without puzzles has a positive effect on critical thinking skills in the Pythagorean theorem material with an increase in average scores of 90.078 and 87.344. The level of self-efficacy has a positive effect on critical thinking skills with an increase in the average score of 87.765 for high self-efficacy students. Apart from that it can also be seen that the effect of providing a learning model on critical thinking skills does not depend on self-efficacy, and vice versa. The Make a Match learning model can be applied to other material with modifications according to student needs, or carried out using technology to improve critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The ability to understand concepts is one of the determinants of success in learning mathematics, so it must be possessed by students. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of implementing GeoGebra-based adaptive learning on the ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type using a posttest-only control group design. The research population was class X students of Santu Petrus Informatics Vocational School, Ruteng. The samples were chosen randomly so that class X TKJ 1 was obtained as the experimental class and class X TKJ 5 as the control class. Data collection was carried out using the test method. Data analysis uses the t-test by first carrying out prerequisite test, namely normality and homogeneity. The significance level used is 5%. The results of the research show that GeoGebra-based adaptive learning has a significant influence on the concept understanding of class X students at the school. For this reason, it is recommended that mathematics teachers can utilize technology such as GeoGebra to improve students’ understanding of concepts in other materials.
