Abstract

This study aims to develop a writing guide for observation report texts tailored to outdoor learning activities, integrating both observational and writing components to support students in composing structured and coherent reports. Employing the Research and Development (RD) methodology, the study follows a series of phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Validation was conducted through assessments by both experts and users. The validation results demonstrate a high level of feasibility, with expert and user approval ratings of 97% and 96.16%, respectively, yielding an average of 96.58%, which is categorized as “very good.” These findings indicate that the developed guide significantly contributes to the improvement of students’ writing competencies in the context of outdoor learning. Consequently, the guide proves to be an effective instructional tool to enhance the quality of observation-based writing in primary education, particularly at SD Muhammadiyah 16 Surabaya.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of students' learning interest in the Indonesian language subject through the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model. CTL is a teaching approach that connects the subject matter with students' real-life contexts, enhancing their engagement and comprehension of the material. This research employs a quantitative approach with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The population consists of eighth-grade students at MTs Al-Falah Ajung Jember, with a sample of 14 students. A validated and reliable questionnaire was used as the primary instrument to measure students' learning interest. The findings reveal a significant difference in students' learning interest when taught using the CTL model compared to conventional methods. Students exposed to CTL demonstrated higher motivation and active participation in the learning process. The study successfully observed improvements in attendance, classroom participation, and overall academic performance. These results suggest that innovative and interactive teaching strategies like CTL can effectively enhance students’ learning interest. This research provides valuable insights for educators seeking to develop more engaging and effective instructional methods to foster student enthusiasm and participation in language learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges faced by eighth-grade students at SMPN 06 Kaur in mastering English vocabulary, with a particular focus on identifying underlying factors that contribute to their difficulties. Employing a quantitative descriptive method, the research involved distributing a 25-item questionnaire to one class. Responses were analyzed using SPSS 26 to assess the students’ vocabulary comprehension. The findings reveal that, among 30 respondents, only a few achieved a score of 84—classified as “very good”—while the majority scored between 70 and 74, indicating a generally “good” level of vocabulary mastery. Despite this, the average frequency score across categories remained low, with only 1% of students reaching the maximum score. The data suggest that while most students possess a satisfactory understanding of English vocabulary, a subset continues to struggle, particularly with grammar and pronunciation. These challenges underscore the need for targeted pedagogical strategies that address specific linguistic weaknesses to enhance overall language proficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the representation of miserliness as depicted in the local legend "Awal Mula Babakan Aso Hese Cai" from the Purwakarta region. Employing a qualitative method, the research analyzes the legend’s structure, narrative context, function, and meaning through Todorov’s narrative theory (1975). Data were collected through interviews with local informants and analyzed to uncover the socio-cultural dimensions embedded within the legend. The findings indicate that the miserly character is portrayed negatively, with miserliness presented as a destructive trait that ultimately leads to punishment—in this case, the disappearance of lake water. The legend is deeply rooted in the cultural and oral traditions of Purwakarta, shaped by existing local narratives and transmitted through generations via oral storytelling. Its primary function is didactic, emphasizing moral values and promoting the importance of generosity over selfishness. The meaning embedded within the legend suggests that greed leads to social and environmental consequences, whereas sharing is a virtue upheld by the community. Thus, the legend serves not only as a narrative artifact but also as a reflection of local wisdom and collective moral consciousness.

Abstract

Reading is an essential activity in the learning process, as it plays a crucial role in expanding students' knowledge. Through reading, students gain access to various pieces of information that contribute to their moral and personal development. In the current digital era, technological advancements have significantly influenced education, including the increasing use of digital books or e-books. However, many students still prefer reading physical books over digital ones. The publishing industry and the profession of book writing continue to grow, with books being produced both in printed and digital formats. Each format has its own advantages and disadvantages. The study explores the impact of digital and physical books on reading habits and learning interest. The findings suggest that regardless of the format, maintaining a consistent reading habit is crucial for intellectual growth. Those who engage in frequent reading develop broader perspectives, whereas individuals who rarely read may have limited knowledge acquisition. Encouraging the habit of reading, whether through digital or printed books, remains essential in fostering a culture of learning.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing the biography writing skills of Grade X students at SMK Negeri 6 Medan. The research involved 36 students from class X BDP 1 and employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. In Cycle I, the results indicated that students encountered difficulties in composing biographical texts, with an average score of 79.47 and a classical completeness rate of 63.84%. Following reflection and instructional adjustments, Cycle II demonstrated a significant improvement, with the average score increasing to 91.12 and classical completeness reaching 94.45%. The findings confirm that the PBL model positively impacts students’ ability to write biographical texts, demonstrating its effectiveness as a pedagogical strategy in Indonesian language learning. This suggests that PBL facilitates student engagement, critical thinking, and skill development in writing through contextual problem-solving.

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of space and freedom in Rumah Tanpa Jendela (House Without Windows), a novel by Asma Nadia, through a literary lens that highlights the psychological and social dimensions of the protagonist’s experience. The research is driven by the central question: how are spatial boundaries and the concept of freedom constructed and reflected in the narrative? Employing a qualitative descriptive method and a structural approach, the analysis focuses on narrative elements—setting, character development, and symbolic motifs—to uncover how space becomes both a literal and metaphorical site of confinement and transformation. The findings reveal that the house without windows serves not merely as a physical location but as a profound metaphor for the social, emotional, and cultural limitations imposed on the main character, Rara. The narrative traces her evolution from a state of passive existence to an active quest for freedom, both intellectually and emotionally. This research concludes that Asma Nadia effectively uses spatial imagery to critique restrictive social norms and to portray a nuanced journey toward self-liberation. The novel thus functions as a literary medium through which themes of gender, oppression, and resilience are powerfully communicated.

Abstract

Writing review skills are essential competencies for students, particularly in fostering critical thinking and effective communication. This study aims to assess the impact of the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) learning model on enhancing the review writing skills of eleventh-grade students at MA Swasta PPQ Al Washliyah Firdaus during the 2023/2024 academic year. The research focuses on the implementation of the SQ3R method and its effectiveness in improving writing skills. Employing a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design and a quantitative approach, this study involved 52 students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest writing assessments. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in students' writing performance after the implementation of the SQ3R model, with a posttest average score of 80.4 compared to a pretest average score of 74 using conventional methods. These findings suggest that the structured steps of the SQ3R model effectively support students in comprehending texts and producing well-organized reviews, thereby contributing to the development of their academic writing abilities.

Abstract

Short story writing is a complex skill that many students struggle to master, often resulting in a lack of enthusiasm for learning the craft in formal educational settings. This study aims to investigate the effect of flipbook-based digital comic media, the effect of serial image media, and the comparative impact of both media on the short story writing skills of Grade XI students at MAN 3 Tangerang. Employing an experimental research method with a pretest-posttest control group design, the study used a simple random sampling technique, selecting class XI Science 3 as the experimental group and XI Science 4 as the control group. Research data were collected through students’ short story writing tasks administered during both pretest and posttest stages. The findings revealed a pretest-posttest improvement in the experimental group using flipbook-based digital comics (45.40 to 71.60), while the control group using serial images improved from 43.20 to 70.60. Despite a slight performance advantage in favor of the digital comic group, the difference was not statistically significant. Therefore, both flipbook-based digital comics and serial images are equally effective in enhancing students’ short story writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the Wattpad application with guided techniques in improving the short story writing skills of 11th-grade students at the Cianjur Agriculture and Development Vocational School. This research employs a quantitative approach with an experimental research design. Initial observations and pretest results revealed that students’ short story writing skills were still poor, falling into the low category. To address this issue, an intervention was conducted using the Wattpad application as a digital writing medium combined with guided techniques. The posttest results showed a significant improvement in students’ writing performance. Statistical analysis confirmed a substantial increase in scores, with pretest results averaging 43.47 and posttest results increasing to an average of 72.57. The findings indicate that integrating digital platforms like Wattpad with structured guidance can enhance students’ ability to compose short stories effectively.
