Abstract

Language in human life functions not only as a means of communication but also as a medium for expressing thought, culture, and identity. The philosophy of language emerges as a branch of knowledge that examines the essence of language, its relation to the world, and the processes through which it is formed. Within the development of linguistic studies, the philosophy of science plays a crucial role in providing foundational perspectives. This study aims to analyze the role of philosophy of science in advancing linguistic scholarship. The research employed a systematic literature review (SLR) by identifying and screening relevant articles aligned with the research questions and objectives. Following the screening process, two relevant articles were selected to strengthen the analysis. The findings reveal that philosophy of science contributes to the growth of linguistic knowledge by examining its epistemological foundations, particularly how linguistic knowledge is acquired and understood, and by mapping the interrelations between linguistics and other disciplines. Furthermore, it provides theoretical, methodological, and critical foundations that guide the development of linguistic theories and applications. Through a holistic and reflective approach, philosophy of science encourages scholars to critically examine underlying assumptions, broaden perspectives, and deepen understanding of the role of language in society and human life.

Abstract

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed the field of education, particularly through the integration of ChatGPT as an interactive learning tool. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ChatGPT in teaching biographical texts to tenth-grade students in Bahasa Indonesia classes. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the research involved two groups of students: an experimental group that utilized ChatGPT as a learning medium and a control group that relied on conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through achievement tests, student perception questionnaires, and classroom observations. The findings indicate that the integration of ChatGPT enhanced students’ comprehension of the structure and elements of biographical texts more effectively than traditional methods. Moreover, the students in the experimental group demonstrated higher levels of engagement and interest during the learning process. Therefore, the application of ChatGPT as a pedagogical tool for biographical text instruction offers a promising innovation for improving the quality of Bahasa Indonesia education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze errors in the use of standard Indonesian language in descriptive texts written by seventh-grade students at State Junior High School 1 Binjai. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through comprehensive reading and systematic note-taking of students’ descriptive texts. The sample consisted of three texts analyzed across four linguistic aspects. The findings reveal four primary categories of errors: (1) capitalization errors, particularly in sentence openings, days of the week, and honorifics; (2) lexical errors, including the use of non-standard words and incorrect possessive pronouns; (3) punctuation errors, mainly involving the misuse of commas in compound sentences and periods at the end of sentences; and (4) sentence construction errors, encompassing problems of unity, coherence, and conciseness. These results highlight the necessity of strengthening instruction in standard Indonesian to enhance students’ writing skills, particularly in spelling, word choice, punctuation, and sentence structure. The study underscores the critical role of accurate language use in developing students’ communicative competence and lays the groundwork for further pedagogical interventions aimed at improving language accuracy in secondary education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the violation of politeness maxims in 15 TikTok “POV Gen Z” contents themed around teachers and examines their implications for students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) at Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah Medan. The research focuses on identifying the most frequent types of violations and their social as well as academic impacts. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation of 15 TikTok videos with the hashtag “POV Gen Z as a teacher” and in-depth interviews with PBSI students active on TikTok. Participants were selected based on follower count and level of engagement, while the research was conducted in classrooms and the university library. Findings revealed 24 cases of politeness maxim violations: tact (11), agreement (6), generosity (2), approbation (1), modesty (2), and sympathy (2). The language in these contents was largely informal and disparaging, albeit presented humorously, reflecting Gen Z’s expressive communication style driven by virality, self-expression, and social critique. Implications for PBSI students were significant, with perceptions ranging from viewing the violations as creativity to concerns about their impact on teacher image and language norms. Despite diverse views, most students emphasized the importance of politeness principles in formal contexts. This study contributes to politeness theory in social media discourse and supports the development of digital literacy.

Abstract

This study examines the use of folklore based on literary anthroecology in high school learning as a means to instill cultural values and environmental awareness among students. Literature serves not only as a source of reading but also as a medium to understand the interrelationship between humans, nature, and culture. Folklore from North Sumatra, such as the legends of Lake Toba, Sampuraga, and Batu Gantung, is closely connected to ecological aspects and local wisdom that can be applied in literature-based anthroecological learning. Employing a library research method with a descriptive approach, this study analyzes the interconnections between literature, culture, and ecology within folklore. The findings reveal that folklore holds not only aesthetic literary value but also reflects human interaction with nature while embodying social and cultural values that enrich students’ perspectives. Literature learning through an anthroecological approach can be implemented through critical discussions, contextual analyses, and ecology-based literacy projects. Nevertheless, challenges remain, particularly teachers’ limited capacity to apply anthroecological methods and the scarcity of appropriate learning resources. Hence, effective strategies such as the development of teaching modules, teacher training, and the integration of technology are required to optimize the implementation of this approach in high school literature education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the values of local cultural wisdom and (2) the design of teaching modules based on the short story collection Kembang Selir by Muna Masyari for eleventh-grade high school students. The primary data source consists of the short story collection Kembang Selir, analyzed through a qualitative descriptive approach using library research techniques. Data were examined through content analysis, while the presentation of findings employed an informal descriptive method. The results of the study indicate that the values of local cultural wisdom reflected in the stories include: (a) human life equipment such as knives, saws, hoes, stoves, cups, pots, and traditional clothing; (b) livelihood systems such as trading and farming; (c) kinship and social systems within community and political structures; (d) language and literature represented through the use of the Javanese language; (e) arts, particularly vocal arts; (f) knowledge systems concerning the natural environment; and (g) religious systems expressed through spiritual rituals. Furthermore, the proposed teaching module for the Kembang Selir short story collection aligns with the Independent Curriculum for Class XI, particularly the learning objective 3.9, which focuses on analyzing cultural values in literature. The implementation employs the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to encourage discussion, critical thinking, and contextual understanding.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of Sigil and Lithium EPUB Reader as digital learning media in teaching expository texts to tenth-grade students at a senior high school in Medan. The central issue addressed in this research is the low level of students’ interest and comprehension of expository texts, largely due to the limited availability of interactive and engaging learning media. The study aims to examine the effectiveness of these two media in enhancing students’ comprehension of expository texts. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two groups: an experimental class using Sigil and Lithium EPUB Reader, and a control class taught through conventional methods. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests on text comprehension, as well as student response questionnaires. The findings reveal that the experimental class demonstrated a significant improvement in comprehension compared to the control group. Furthermore, students expressed positive responses toward the use of Sigil and Lithium EPUB Reader, noting that the media were more engaging, interactive, and facilitated their understanding of text structure and linguistic features. Consequently, Sigil and Lithium EPUB Reader can serve as effective digital alternatives to improve the quality of expository text learning in senior high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the alignment between the Merdeka Curriculum and the National Education Goals as stipulated in Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied through document analysis techniques, focusing on official sources such as the Merdeka Curriculum framework, the Pancasila Student Profile, and the formulation of national education objectives. The findings indicate that, conceptually, the Merdeka Curriculum has successfully integrated the core values of national education, including fostering students’ faith, independence, creativity, and their role as responsible and democratic citizens. The curriculum emphasizes student-centered learning with contextual and adaptive approaches to meet diverse educational needs. However, the achievement of these objectives largely depends on the effectiveness of implementation, particularly in relation to teacher preparedness, educational infrastructure, and consistent policy support. This study concludes that the Merdeka Curriculum holds great potential to realize Indonesia’s national education goals, yet its success requires sustainable collaboration among all educational stakeholders.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the lack of interest in literary learning, which significantly affects students’ writing skills. The research involved eleventh-grade students (Phase F) at Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Panti Pasaman. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the study presents data and findings in the form of narrative descriptions rather than numerical analysis. Literature reviews were conducted through relevant scholarly journals, proceedings, and reference books to establish a comprehensive foundation for the investigation. The research question focuses on identifying the underlying causes of low interest in literary learning and examining how teachers play a role in addressing these issues. The findings reveal that internal factors, such as intelligence, interest, talent, and personality, as well as external factors, including family, school, and community, contribute to students’ limited engagement with literary studies. Additionally, students with learning difficulties face further challenges that hinder their participation and performance. The study concludes that both internal and external dimensions must be addressed systematically, with teachers serving as key agents in fostering students’ interest and motivation in literary learning. These insights highlight the need for strategic pedagogical interventions to enhance the effectiveness of literature education and improve students’ writing competencies.

Abstract

This study examines the digitalization of prosody in Syair Gulung Ketapang as an intersection of linguistics and literature, particularly within the domain of verse studies. The research addresses the problems related to the digitalization of prosodic features, including duration, intensity, frequency, and the generation of Praat images, as well as their pedagogical implications in Indonesian language learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through documentation techniques using recording devices, mobile phones, and computers. The primary data source was the oral performance of Syair Gulung Ketapang delivered by the poet Mursalin, consisting of phrases, clauses, and sentences. The digitization process was conducted using the Praat software, which produced measurable values of duration, intensity, frequency, and visual representations of prosody. The analysis revealed eight average duration values per line, eight duration values per stanza, eight average intensity values, eight average frequency values, and twenty-four Praat images, which were further developed into one teaching material product. The findings demonstrate that prosodic digitalization not only enriches literary and linguistic analysis but also provides practical contributions to language learning, particularly by integrating technology into the study of oral traditions.
