Abstract

The low analytical ability of students in understanding explanatory texts at Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Kabandungan serves as the background of this study, which stems from the predominant use of lecture-based teaching methods that fail to actively involve learners in the learning process. This research aims to investigate the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on enhancing students’ ability to analyze explanatory texts in Grade VIII. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the study involved two groups: an experimental class receiving PBL-based instruction and a control class taught through conventional methods. Data were collected using a post-test consisting of multiple-choice questions and analyzed through a t-test to determine significant differences between groups. The findings revealed that students taught with the PBL model achieved higher mean scores compared to those in the control class, indicating a statistically significant improvement. Therefore, the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model demonstrates a positive and significant influence in fostering students’ analytical skills in processing explanatory texts effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phonological and lexical variations of the Malay Sambas dialect spoken in the villages of Tengguli, Mekar Jaya, and Sekura, located in Sambas Regency. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method to analyze linguistic differences based on data collected from native Malay speakers residing in the three villages. The data consist of basic Swadesh vocabulary and spoken sentences that reflect the phonological and lexical characteristics of the local dialect. The findings reveal the presence of 31 lexical variations and 10 phonological variations among the three villages. These variations are influenced by geographical, demographic, and historical factors, which contribute to the linguistic diversity of the Malay Sambas dialect. Furthermore, the study highlights the pedagogical implications of these findings for the development of a Semester Learning Plan (Rencana Pembelajaran Semester, RPS) in teaching phonological and lexical variation within local language education.

Abstract

The sago processing activities in Sebangun Village, Sebawi District, exhibit a rich variety of terminologies that reflect the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the local Malay Sambas dialect. This study aims to identify and analyze the terminology used in sago processing within the Malay Sambas Dialect (MSD) community of Sebangun Village, Sambas Regency. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data obtained from native Malay Sambas speakers who have experience in sago processing. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, recording, note-taking, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed through transcription, classification, analysis, and interpretation. The findings revealed 35 monomorphemic and 38 polymorphemic terms related to sago processing, categorized based on processing stages, tools and materials, and final products. The semantic analysis indicated that 35 terms carry lexical meanings, while 38 terms express grammatical meanings. Functionally, there are 29 terms related to processing procedures, 23 to tools and materials, and 24 to processing results. This study not only contributes to the preservation of local linguistic heritage but also serves as a pedagogical reference for developing Bahasa Indonesia learning modules, particularly in terminology and dialectology studies at the high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of mother-tongue-based communication and health literacy in preventing stunting among early childhood children of inmates at Class II B Correctional Facility Sibuhuan. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. A total of 40 inmates participated as respondents and received health education interventions delivered in their native language. Data were collected through health literacy questionnaires, knowledge tests, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation. The results revealed a significant increase in health literacy scores (from 52.3 to 78.6) and knowledge regarding stunting prevention (from 34.3% to 79.5%) after the intervention. Regression analysis showed that health literacy had a significant influence on knowledge improvement (R² = 0.642; p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that communication using the mother tongue effectively enhances inmates’ understanding and participation in health education programs. The study recommends implementing a mother-tongue-based health education model as an effective strategy for stunting prevention, particularly in vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia is currently guided by an independent curriculum that emphasizes freedom of expression and creativity in learning. However, in Indonesian language instruction—particularly in explanatory text materials—students still demonstrate limited writing proficiency and difficulty articulating ideas coherently. The persistence of teacher-centered methods, such as lecturing, has contributed to this issue. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on students’ ability to write explanatory texts in grade XI at Al Washliyah 1 High School, Medan, during the 2025–2026 academic year. Employing a quantitative experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-test and post-test model, data were collected from a sample of 23 students selected through random sampling from a population of 52. The study was conducted from July 25 to 29, 2025. Hypothesis testing using the t-test revealed a mean score of 81.35 in the experimental class and 79.43 in the control class, with a t-value of 15.38, exceeding the critical value of 2.074. These findings indicate that the guided inquiry learning model significantly enhances students’ ability to write explanatory texts.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading skills of fourth-grade students at Public Elementary School 101103 Tolang Jae through the application of the deep learning instructional model. In this context, deep learning is not related to artificial intelligence algorithms but is employed as a pedagogical approach that emphasizes deep comprehension, reflection, and the application of concepts in real-life situations. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design adapted from Kemmis and McTaggart’s model, which consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study involved 28 students with varying literacy levels. Data were collected through reading literacy tests administered at each learning cycle and analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ literacy performance from cycle I to cycle II, indicated by an increase in the proportion of students scoring above 80, from 17.8% to 35.7%. The use of critical discussions, concept mapping, and meaning exploration effectively enhanced students’ understanding of reading materials and fostered critical thinking toward texts. Therefore, the deep learning-based instructional approach proved effective in improving reading literacy skills among elementary students, particularly in rural schools with limited learning resources.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) serves as a vital platform for applying academic knowledge and technology in real social settings, fostering students’ intellectual, social, and personal competencies. This study aims to examine the role of KKN in developing students’ competencies during their community engagement in Sinyior Village, South Angkola. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving both participating students and community members. The findings reveal that KKN plays a substantial role in enhancing students’ social sensitivity, communication skills, teamwork, and adaptability through direct involvement in community empowerment activities. The interaction between students and local residents fosters a mutual exchange of knowledge and values, contributing to the improvement of students’ emotional intelligence and problem-solving abilities. Therefore, the KKN program not only strengthens the university’s role in community development but also functions as a transformative learning experience that supports human resource quality improvement in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development process, feasibility, and effectiveness of Android-based mobile interactive learning media designed to enhance students’ comprehension of scientific writing materials among grade XI students at SMA Negeri 16 Medan. Employing the 4-D development model by Thiagarajan—Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate—the research involved a total population of 384 students, with a sample of 35 participants. The findings revealed that the developed product achieved a “highly feasible” category based on evaluations from media experts I and II, obtaining scores of 94% and 95%, respectively. Material experts I and II rated the media at 92% and 94%, while assessments from teachers I and II both yielded 94%. Field trials conducted with 35 students of class XI Draco at SMA Negeri 16 Medan showed a “highly feasible” rating of 88%. Furthermore, effectiveness testing through integrated evaluation instruments demonstrated significant improvement in students’ understanding of scientific writing materials, achieving a “highly effective” rating of 90%. These results indicate that the developed Android-based interactive media is both pedagogically sound and effective in supporting students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of podcast media as an instructional tool to enhance the speaking skills of eighth-grade students at Public Junior High School 23 Medan during the 2024–2025 academic year. Speaking competence is a crucial aspect of language learning, as it directly relates to students’ ability to express ideas, thoughts, and information orally. However, many students still struggle with speaking due to limited vocabulary, insufficient practice, and monotonous teaching methods. The use of podcasts in the learning process offers an innovative, engaging, and easily accessible medium that encourages autonomous and collaborative learning. Through podcasts, students can listen to appropriate speech models, practice pronunciation and intonation, and expand their vocabulary. This research employed a classroom action research (CAR) design to observe improvements across learning cycles. The findings reveal that consistent use of podcast media significantly improved students’ speaking performance, as reflected in the increased average scores at each stage. Therefore, podcast-based learning proves to be an effective and relevant medium for fostering speaking proficiency among junior high school students.

Abstract

This study, titled “The Influence of Audio-Visual Learning Media on Students’ Learning Motivation in Grade XI of Senior High School Negeri 2 Lubuk Pakam,” aims to analyze how the implementation of audio-visual learning media enhances students’ motivation in learning the Indonesian language. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation to provide an in-depth understanding of the learning process. The findings indicate that the use of audio-visual media, such as videos and multimedia presentations, significantly increases students’ engagement, enthusiasm, and interest in learning. Students become more active participants, showing higher motivation and better comprehension of the material. Despite certain obstacles, such as limited facilities and diverse learning styles, teacher support and adequate resources successfully facilitated effective implementation. This study concludes that audio-visual media serve as a relevant and effective instructional innovation that fosters intrinsic motivation and promotes dynamic, interactive learning experiences in the digital era.
