Abstract

This research aims to discuss the History and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of SMP Suster Pontianak as a Source for Learning History. This study employs a qualitative research method with a historical approach, which includes topic selection, data source collection, source criticism, interpretation, and writing. The results of this research trace the historical development of educational institutions established by the Sisters of the SFIC Congregation (Sororum Fransciscallum ab Immaculata, Conception A Beata Matre Dei) in West Kalimantan, particularly the Pontianak Sister Junior High School. Starting with the arrival of five SFIC sisters in 1906, this institution has grown with a focus on service in the fields of health and education. The preservation of buildings while maintaining their historical value and original architecture can serve as a source for learning history. In addition, through interviews with the school principal, it was revealed that students are taught to preserve that cultural heritage.

The research instruments applied were a questionnaire and an interview. The data was analyzed by using four procedures: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The researcher finds that the majority of anxiety of secondary students’ is cognitive anxiety. Data showed in data reduction that thirteen of the interviewees have cognitive anxiety in writing class and two more have somatic anxiety and cognitive anxiety. The factors that cause cognitive anxiety are the students' confusion, difficulty, and less interest in writing class. Students who have cognitive anxiety claim that they have difficulties in grammar and vocabulary. Then, students who also indicated somatic anxiety is caused by less confidence in their paper, have a negative perception that if they make a mistake in their paper, such as being wrong in word, phrase or paragraph arrangement. So, it can be concluded that most of the students had anxiety in writing then they need more practice to build their confidence in the writing class.

Abstract

Abstract

Early childhood education in Banyuwangi faces challenges in the integration of local culture and the potential of the Ijen Geopark. Around 40% of PAUD institutions implement a curriculum based on local culture. The limited understanding of educators and the lack of exploration activities hinder the use of Geoparks as a learning medium. The lack of community support and facilities in PAUD exacerbates this situation. The purpose of this research is to integrate local culture and the natural potential of the Ijen Geopark in early childhood education in Banyuwangi. This study assesses the challenges and opportunities for the implementation of cultural and environment-based learning. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach based on literature review. This study collected data from journals and relevant documents. The main focus of the research is the challenge in the application of culture-based learning in early childhood education. The results of the study show the importance of integrating contextual learning that links culture and environment in early childhood education in Banyuwangi. The Ijen Geopark offers great potential to enrich children's learning experience through direct interaction with nature and local culture. By utilizing a context-based learning approach, children can understand the environmental and cultural values that exist around them. An effective learning process requires a connection between new knowledge and the social context that the child recognizes, so that the learning experience gained becomes more profound and meaningful. The conclusion of the study shows that Early Childhood education in Banyuwangi faces challenges in the low implementation of the local culture-based curriculum, understanding of the Ijen Geopark, and limited facilities. Training, infrastructure upgrades, and collaboration are required for solutions.

Abstract

One of the main goals of learning English is to improve English conversation skills. However, English conversation skills are still considered as one of the difficult skills for students. Many students face several difficulties when they want to communicate in English, even though they have studied English for years. Some of the difficulties that are often faced and complained by students include: first, they are unable to communicate in English, because they do not master English vocabulary. Second, they are afraid and lack confidence in their ability to pronounce English vocabulary and third, there is no interesting media and learning methods to involve students in communicating in English. Therefore, an effective and efficient solution is needed to increase students' interest in understanding English subjects, namely by providing interesting teaching media and effective learning methods. One of the interesting teaching media is a simulation in the form of games that contain English vocabulary that is arranged as attractively as possible

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the comparative perspectives on human rights within the teachings of four major religions in Indonesia: Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Against the backdrop of Indonesia’s rich religious diversity and ongoing discourse on human rights, this research examines how each religion interprets and addresses fundamental human rights issues. The research addresses the question of how these religious doctrines align or diverge in their approach to human rights principles, particularly concerning freedom, equality, and social justice. Using a qualitative methodology, the study draws upon religious texts, interviews with religious leaders, and scholarly literature to analyze the foundational views and teachings of each religion on human rights. Findings indicate that while there are significant commonalities in advocating for human dignity and moral responsibilities, each religion emphasizes distinct principles that reflect its unique doctrines. The conclusion underscores the potential of interfaith dialogue to bridge differences and promote a more inclusive understanding of human rights in a pluralistic society. This study contributes to the broader discourse on religion and human rights in multicultural contexts like Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how myths in the Chinese New Year celebration traditions reflect or represent the levels of needs in Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. Indonesia, as a country with diverse ethnicities and cultures, has a Chinese ethnic community that celebrates Chinese New Year as an important tradition. This celebration not only functions as a cultural ritual but also fulfills basic human needs. Based on a literature review method, this study analyzes various myths and traditions of Chinese New Year and relates them to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, including physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. The results show that the Chinese New Year tradition plays a significant role in fulfilling these needs. Rituals such as family dinners, house cleaning, and giving red envelopes not only meet basic needs but also create a sense of security, love, and esteem within the Chinese ethnic community. Furthermore, this study applies Hofstede's cultural dimensions to deepen the understanding of how the Chinese New Year tradition supports the structure and cultural values of the Chinese, as well as its contribution to psychological and social well-being. This research provides valuable insights for cultural anthropology and social psychology studies and enriches appreciation for the existing cultural heritage. Keywords: Myth, Chinese New Year, Chinese, Psychology, Maslow

This research aims to measure the level of local community participation and determine the forms of their participation in agrotourism management activities in Waturaka Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. The research uses quantitative methods. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 95 respondents who were farming actors in the Waturaka agrotourism area. The sample size is determined based on the Slovin formula. The results of the analysis showed that the level of local community participation was very high in agrotourism management activities in Waturaka village, as evidenced by the average questionnaire score of 4.41. Meanwhile, direct observation results show several forms of local community participation, including agricultural land management, active in irrigation construction programs, supporting walls construction, and road repairs, also presents attractions to tourists, promotes and sells agricultural products, and participates in evaluation meetings related to agrotourism management in their village. The very high level of community participation is a very important aspect, so there is no concern if agrotourism management activities in Waturaka village are still running today since they were promoted in 2012 by the Non Government Organization Swisscontact in collaboration with the Ende Regency Tourism Office. Therefore, it is highly hoped that the community will maintain its participatory spirit, and all stakeholders should continue to strive for good cooperation and coordination so that agrotourism management in Waturaka village can develop optimally.
