Abstract

This study examines the internal conflict within Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) triggered by the organization’s involvement in a funding request to the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Social Welfare Service Charity Foundation (YDBKS), which managed the Social Philanthropy with Prizes (SDSB) program a scheme widely associated with gambling. Although the funds were intended for the renovation of the Hasyimiyah Foundation in Tuban, the issue escalated into a major controversy because it contradicted NU’s official stance on SDSB. Previous studies have discussed NU’s institutional politics, yet the specific dilemma arising from its entanglement with state-linked fundraising mechanisms has not been sufficiently analyzed. Therefore, this research aims to clarify how the NU dan SDSB case reflects tensions between pragmatic institutional needs and normative religious principles. Using the historical method consisting of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, the study reveals that the conflict was not merely administrative but exposed deeper moral inconsistencies, internal leadership fragmentation, and contested legitimacy within NU. The findings demonstrate the urgency of ethical coherence and transparent governance in religious organizations facing socio-political pressures. The study contributes novelty by framing the NU–SDSB controversy as a critical lens for understanding the negotiation between moral authority and pragmatic decision-making in modern Islamic institutions.

Abstract

This study investigates the pedagogical strategies employed by teachers in delivering local history lessons of West Kalimantan at SMK Negeri 3 Pontianak. The research is primarily motivated by the limited integration of local historical content within the national curriculum, particularly in vocational schools where the emphasis is often placed on practical skills. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and comprehensive document analysis involving both history teachers and students. The findings reveal that teachers effectively implement integrative and contextual strategies by linking national historical topics with relevant local content, such as the histories of the Pontianak and Sambas Sultanates. To enhance student engagement, a variety of media are utilized, including PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, and virtual tours to historical sites. However, teachers encounter several challenges, including limited time allocation, insufficient teaching materials, and a lack of adequate institutional support. Despite these constraints, teachers demonstrate remarkable creativity by developing their own materials and employing digital and problem-based learning (PBL) approaches. Consequently, students exhibit positive responses, showing increased motivation and a heightened awareness of their cultural identity. The novelty of this study lies in its illumination of how vocational education successfully integrates local history through innovative digital learning strategies, thereby significantly enhancing students’ historical understanding and fostering local character formation.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the location of distribution warehouses by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Location-Allocation Model to improve supply chain efficiency and customer service levels. The research employs a qualitative explanatory case study approach conducted in a national distribution company planning warehouse expansion. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, company documentation, and spatial data extraction, followed by thematic analysis and GIS-based network analysis. The findings reveal that the existing distribution system was spatially inefficient, with 38% of customers located more than 150 km from the central warehouse, contributing to high transportation costs and suboptimal delivery performance. The implementation of the integrated GIS and location-allocation model identified an optimal scenario involving the addition of one warehouse in the eastern region, resulting in a 23% reduction in total distribution distance, a significant decrease in transportation costs, and improved delivery accuracy and lead time. The study demonstrates that spatially integrated optimization models not only enhance cost efficiency but also strengthen service level performance. The integration of quantitative spatial modeling with qualitative managerial insights provides a holistic framework for strategic distribution network design in modern logistics environments.

Abstract

The 1867 Yogyakarta earthquake was one of the most destructive earthquakes on the island of Java in the 19th century, causing significant impacts not only in physical terms but also socially and culturally. This study aims to analyze the 1867 Yogyakarta earthquake as a socio-cultural event, the post-earthquake changes to the Tugu Golong Gilig monument, and its significance from a Javanese cosmological perspective. This study employs a historical method with a qualitative approach through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Research sources include colonial archives, Dutch East Indies government reports, contemporary newspapers, and supporting literature. The findings indicate that the 1867 earthquake was understood as a sign of the disruption of cosmic balance in the Javanese people’s view. The collapse of the Golong Gilig Monument was interpreted as a symbol of the disruption of harmony between the king, the people, and nature. The change in the monument’s form following the earthquake represented an effort to restore that balance. These findings indicate that natural disasters in the Javanese context are not merely understood as physical phenomena but also as symbolic events tied to the community’s cosmology.

Abstract

Historical literacy studies have so far tended to focus on its implementation in schools, but the emergence and theoretical development of this concept in the 20th century have not been widely discussed. In fact, the conceptualization of historical literacy in the 20th century serves as a reference its implementation of historical literacy today in almost all schools worldwide, including in Indonesia. It adopts a qualitative library research method, then analyzes the data using Klaus Krippendorff's content analysis model, and strengthens the credibility of the data through source triangulation. The results illustrate that the concept of historical literacy was first formulated by Harry Scheiber in 1978, emphasizing the importance of in-depth knowledge of historical content. In 1989, Diane Ravitch also formulated a similar concept, emphasizing the importance of understanding and remembering the accumulation of historical facts (especially those related to official American history) to improve students' historical knowledge in America, which had declined drastically. In 1991, the concept of historical literacy was refined by Sam Wineburg, emphasizing the strengthening of historical methodological skills such as heuristics, verification, and contextualization. Meanwhile, in the context of current history learning in Indonesia, the concept of historical literacy formulated by Sam Wineburg is apparently relevant to the objectives of history learning in the ‘2013 Curriculum’ and the ‘Merdeka Curriculum’, which both emphasize historical thinking skills through research-based inquiry processes and strengthening historical literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of Persekolahan Suster Pontianak as a social educational institution in post-independence Indonesia during the period 1951–1985. The study is grounded in the recognition of education as a strategic sector in national development, as well as the significant role of religious-based educational institutions in expanding access to education, particularly in regional contexts. This research employs a historical method, encompassing heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography, utilizing primary sources such as school archives and interviews, alongside secondary sources including scholarly books and journal articles. The findings indicate that Persekolahan Suster Pontianak, managed by the SFIC Susters, evolved from an early caregiving institution into a formal educational establishment in the early twentieth century. Following its closure during World War II, the institution resumed operations in 1951 under the Yayasan Pengabdi untuk Sesama Manusia (YPSM) and successfully adapted to national education policies through the implementation of the national curriculum, the use of Indonesian as the medium of instruction, and structural adjustments in its educational system. Furthermore, the institution functioned as a social agent, contributing to students’ moral, spiritual, and character formation while simultaneously expanding educational access for the local community.

Abstract

This study examines the historical background of the transition of ownership of the Medini tea plantation in Kendal in 1950-1951 which occurred in the unstable political and security situation in early post-Independence Indonesia. This study aims to determine (1) how the process of transition of ownership of the Medini tea plantation from Colonial to national private in 1950-1951 (2) the social and economic impact of changes in ownership of the workforce and the surrounding community. This study uses the historical method with a qualitative approach. The initial stage in this research is the heuristic stage which is realized through interviews with related sources, collecting contemporary newspaper archives, and literature studies sourced from books and journals. After the data are obtained, a descriptive analysis is carried out, that is, an analysis that describes an event based on the cause-and-effect relationship of a historical phenomenon in each situation. Analysis of these data obtained from documents, literature studies, and interviews, then compiled in the form of historiography. The results showed that the transfer of ownership of the Medini Tea Plantation after independence had a positive and negative impact on the socio-economic life of the surrounding community. The novelty of this study lies in the study of the history of the process of transfer of ownership of tea plantations Medini in the early post-independence period, which has not been widely studied in previous studies are generally more focused on aspects of tea management.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a quartet card learning media for the topic of Great World Civilizations and to evaluate its feasibility based on expert validation. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model, which includes the stages of define, design, and develop, while the dissemination stage is not conducted due to the study’s focus on product feasibility. Data were collected through validation sheets completed by subject matter experts and media experts, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques. The results indicate that the developed learning media meets high feasibility standards. Media validation results improved from 68.3% (feasible with revision) to 91.6% (highly feasible), while material validation increased from 82.1% (very valid with minor revision) to 91% (highly valid). These findings demonstrate that the quartet card media is both valid and appropriate for use in history learning. The media integrates visual elements, concise textual information, and QR codes to support interactive and independent learning. This study contributes to the development of game-based learning media in history education, particularly for complex and abstract materials such as world civilizations. Practically, the developed media offers an innovative, engaging, and accessible alternative to enhance students’ understanding and participation. Further research is recommended to examine its effectiveness in classroom implementation.
